1) Plastic coverings on sofas: These were a nightmare to sit on in the heat of the summer when you had no air conditioning. You would sweat, and stick to it, and when you got up, your backside was wet with sweat and there was a puddle of sweat on the plastic.
2) Shag carpeting: Heaven forbid you should ever accidentally drop a tiny screw or earring back or other tiny object. In the shag carpet, it will be lost for eternity.
3) You forgot to mention beads across doorways. Yes, these came about in the late 60's, but were also popular in the 70's. Strings of brightly colored plastic beads would be hung in indoor doorways in your house or apartment instead of actual doors, Nothing said "cool" like these beads. And they were a perfect compliment to bean bag chairs, shag carpeting, and Led Zeppelin; The Who; Earth, Wind, and Fire; and Donna Summer.
Those plastic covers was a pain when you were a sweaty fellow like myself

I was a teen in 70's, beanbag chairs, mirror wall, console stereos, which were awesome, I don't know why they're not still around.
My parents were sensible, no shag carpet, no linoleum floor which did not do well with being punctured. Mom had Corell Ware, only Pyrex we had were measuring cups. No 'mod' furniture and no plastic covers. We did have tv dinners (in the aluminum trays) as a treat, usually when Mom and Dad went grocery shopping.
Meh.
My grandmother had the Pyrex percolator coffee pot and bakeware.
Thanks for a blast from the past. My friend had plastic covered white furniture, no one was allowed to sit on it. We had the paneling and vinyl flooring.
I have a floral 70's couch, and 2 chairs. My grandparents had green shag rugs, wood walls, bust floral couch, with plastic, a black, and white tv. It never changed
I was born in 1975 and mostly grew up in the 80s. I remember all this stuff because most of it was still around in the 80s. We didn't have plastic covers, but my friend lived in and up and down. Her grandparents had the upstairs apartment and they had the downstairs. The front room at her grandmas had the plastic, but then the smallest bedroom was used as a room to sit on the couch and watch TV. They had cable.
This furniture ... these decorations ... it makes me bubble all over. I wanna go back! :-)

we had everything except the plastic covers, and as for the floral sofa we had a FULL floral and wooden set sofa, loveseat and 2 rockers all with the same pattern
if you stepped into our house first room had orange and brown shag carpetting. the walls were half wood paneling and then wallpaper at the top half, floor of out dining room and kitchen were lenolium, and i STILL have grandma's pyrex dishes. and we not only had our tv dinners but we had the superman, or batman tv trays for them
Linoleum might have been popular in the 70's, but it's been around for a lot longer. In the early 20th century it was a new, expensive high tech flooring and was a sign of status. As a result some of the flooring in the Titanic was Linoleum.
It's also still around, and one of the interesting things about it is it's pretty much natural and while its very durable it's also biodegradable.
And yes, our house in the 70's had shag carpeting.
And don't forget the 'alumi-foil' wallpaper in the late 70s into the early 80s! The stuff had a 'shine' to it, like aluminum foil ;-D
Good old do it yourself linoleum eventually! Just peel, place and press! Haha! A carry over from the 60s was to also decorate a room with three walls painted and one with wallpaper or paneling!
I love avocado green. My bathroom sinks are still avocado green.
My house still has wood paneling in one room, that is painted over. In our sun room we have a gilded mirror that is glued to the wall. I pulled up the old carpet and found some groovey bright orange, yellow and green floral carpet! Our house was built in 1960. Its a time capsule.
I loved Swanson fried 🍗. These were definitely a treat in our house
Mom had that Xmas table cloth and congoleum.Ive been buying Pyrex at tag sales for 30 years then i turn around and sell them at a profit.The ladies love that old stuff
Linoleum is amazing. Great product.
I got my 40s pyrex bowls at goodwill for less than $20 during lockdown.

My grandparents have those plastic covers on their couches. They work so well that when they passed away they were still in great condition so I brought them to my first apartment and took the covers off and they disintegrated in 6 months😢😂
The couple at the beginning is from the '50s or early '60s.

There certainly is no individuality now. All cars look alike. Houses look alike. Furniture looks alike. You name it!
I remember plastic seat covers for cars too.

I love those ugly 70's couches. Way more character than just some plain colored couch.

Cypress tree clocks. Anyone remember them? those were a thing in the 70s. Clocks you hung on your wall that were made from a cypress trunk. An don't forget macromere and plants with real long vines or at least fake ones with real long vines were also a thing you'd see in peoples houses and fondue sets fondue parties.
There is still one lurking in my basement somewhere. Hopefully, the battery was removed before it was put away.
LINOLEUM WAS AROUND FOREVER. VINYL IS WHAT YOU MEAN. NOT THE SAME AS LINOLEUM WHICH IS MADE FROM NATURAL INGREDIENTS
Agree. Linoleum was actually used on the stairs of the Titanic. It's that old.
I remember my mother's mother had a room full of plastic covers.
She and my mom didn't get along and one time she got mad at me over the phone for not knowing who she was.
"I'm your Grandma AGNES!"
"Who?"
My mom got an earful of it. My grandfather wasn't too bad, suffice to say I wasn't left anything from either side of the family but yeah the only thing I remember from my grandmother was that she had plastic on the cushions.
Now it's interesting that my cousins had good memories of my grandmother and grandfather but again I don't think they ever took any of the handful of opportunities they had to see me to really do anything with me.
My dad's mom cared more about gambling and left all the money to my uncle and my real grandfather died when I was five and as far as I knew never had anything to do with me.
I mean I was close to my father's mother when I was younger but for most of my life she was mainly concerned about beanie babies and my stepgrandfather's health

I still use pyrex to this day! But my hubby & I are planing to cover over the definitely dated linoleum (circa 1989) - as bad as the ones from the 70's!
They sold shag carpet kits for the bathroom. The toilet was covered in carpet. Very chic.

My friend's girlfriend back then took carpet small remnants, cut them to size and put them in her bathroom like a puzzle. Since they were small, she could wash them in a washing machine.
Pyrex is crap since they changed the formula!!! Cheap bastards!!! Keep up the great vids!!!
Shag carpeting was a nightmare to clean. You couldn't use the old vacuums. They made a rake but that didn't get the dirt out. It didn't take long for them to look like absolute garbage

Perhaps the popularity of the items had mostly died, but every item is still being made and sold. Even shag carpet. Hardly what I'd call extinct.

I wore bell bottoms but only because I was in the navy and bell bottoms were the navy uniform.
My house doesnt have linoleum. It has that other one and lots of layers. Cant think of the name but there are three layers of it. Same color all the way through.
What is the difference between linoleum and vinyl flooring? They seem to be the same thing.
Am I the first to observe that TV Dinners are neither furniture nor extinct? Probably not, but I just thought I'd mention it in interest of pedantry. :)
You can’t get tv dinners in aluminum trays now. They are designed for microwave ovens in addition to ordinary ovens. .

The only thing I don't like about them chairs is I like to see from all sides if someone was sneeking up on me. You could have a house introder and not know it until it was to late.
People still use plastic covers on the sofa unfortunately
