This is unbelievable. I was literally open mouthed and slack jawed during parts of this movie. It is so good. If this movie had been released, it literally could have changed the direction of DC and its movie future. Bravo. A masterpiece.
Gotta be honest, I wasn't expecting such a glowing review. I just rewatched the theatrical release again yesterday in preparation. Looking forward to the new cut!
Okay, why are you seemingly the only one in the WORLD that will admit when they are wrong about something? HIGH admiration for that quality in you, Dan. Great review. Cheers.
No. 4 hours+ of footage for a single film is entirely expected for films of this size. It's the first film, but more like a finished version of an Assembly cut.
@Pranav M it was initially meant to be a 2 parter, filmed back to back. WB said nah, after the BvS reception. Then, after pulling the rug out from under him, knocking him down to one film, they cut him off at the knees, again, with the 2 hour mandate.
Snyder himself has stated in one of the trades interview that he showed the executives a 2 hour cut, a 2h20min cut, so clearly he could cut it for a theatrical release if they wanted him to. Robert Meyer Burnett was reading from that interview on one of his RUclips feeds a few days back.
He's being way more charitable than Campea, who continues twisting himself into knots. And I'm the furthest thing from a Snyder fanboy, but the people who said a Snyder cut couldn't exist were obviously wrong.
Dude! Apriciate the honesty. Some reviewers only care about there predictions being right, and stick to that, because they already think something is awful
I think it is going to be a lot clearer now as to how much of snyder's footage they included in theatrical cut and what they cut out, the decision making that went through at wb in terms of story and execution. Not that this hasn't already been discussed a lot but now with actual existing footage from snyder cut it would be interesting to watch RUclips videos breaking down this stuff between scene that were changed to something else and compare two different movies. would love to here about that from you Dan. 🤔
I think it's a fair argument to question whether these things were "cut" from the original version or if these were "added" by Snyder in direct response to criticisms. I find it hard to believe that EVERY issue with the original cut was because of the studio and is addressed by prerelease material. Real question: Does Flash still run like a freak with floppy legs?
Zack has stated he hasn't seen the Joss Whedon version so there's no way for him to respond to something he hasn't seen. Now that said of course this isn't what we would have got if Zack finished it originally but it's safe to say it's a close approximation.
Thank you Dan. This is LITERALLY the first time I’ve been amped to actually seek this one out. Haven’t given two shits until just now. Now I’m super excited! 🤘🏼

The movie's not great. It still comes from the same place as BvS and that's not a good thing. I think everyone is just overinflating it because this movie seems like a miracle and it's much superior to the completely incoherent mess of 2017.
@@madsgrams2069 You’re making the mistake of thinking everyone has the same tastes as you. You don’t think it’s great. Awesome. But everyone else saying it’s great believe it’s great. I’m one of them. Your opinion is yours alone.

AT&T is the reason we got this--they saw the fans clamoring for this, and they also saw potential $$$ in this. So they told WB to make it happen. I too, am stunned by all of this.
Well, maybe one answer to why WB went in that direction is the question, what is the 2:30 hr. version of this movie? If it centers on the interesting Cyborg story, how much is left for the main JL characters? If it centers on the marquee JL leads, how much of the Cyborg "heart" remains? The 2 hr. movie that makes you relate to Cyborg probably should've before JL that way they're not fighting for space.
In your defense, Dan, I think in the world we lived in 2017-2019, the Snyder Cut WAS an impossibility. We most likely have COVID to thank for this film more than anything else.
Exactly! People think this was all because of fans or whatever. And I’m sure they played some small influence, but COVID shutting down theaters and forcing studios into streaming is the biggest reason this ever got funded and finished. WB needed something for HBO MAX. And I don’t even blame them because Netflix and Disney+ are miles ahead of any other service. So HBO needed something to secure them in third place or they’d get dusted real soon now that basically every studio has a service.
Go watch other videos that re-count events leading to this movie been green lit. Go ahead was given at end of 2019. Production started early 2020. Most such videos state the streaming wars as the main reason WB was willing to spend the money to complete this 4 hour cut. We might need a behind the scenes by the director in the future to really know what happen.
Hey Dan, I was one of the lucky few who got to see this on an Imax screen! In Melbourne Australia Imax ran a competition to go the the one night showing premiere of this and I was fortunate enough to score myself a spot. Seeing it in Imax was pretty unreal, once this pandemic is over I hope they plan to show this in Imax because it looks and sounds incredible. Will be interested to see what I think of it rewatching this via streaming on a widesreen TV, given that the imax ratio is the one that is used for streaming. Love the review of this, been a fan of your solo channel for a while now, always love your content!
You hit the nail on the head, vastly improved movie. Every single character was improved on, my favorite moment was the one at the farm. Superman and the women who build him up and help make him who he is. I also loved his flight sequence, really well done with the voice overs.
Movie comes out a few hours ago and youtube is randomly suggesting spoiler videos to me, like literal scenes from the movie with thumbnails and titles that tell you what the last scene of the movie is and shit like that.
If people want my little review. Here it is.👍🏼 Much better than 2017 version. First hour and a half dragged a little. Much better character motives and development. CGI was a bit wonky in some scenes but you can look past it mostly. Massive scale and great cinematography as usual. The score wasn’t as cool and grand as I was expecting except for individual character themes like Wonder Woman’s or Superman’s scores, the Justice League’s theme was pretty forgettable for me, hate to make comparisons but like for example the Avengers theme I will always remember. Cyborg went from the most boring character to a well understood enjoyable character, but for me he wasn’t the heart like everyone is saying he is definitely one of the most important. However Superman and Flash stole the show for me. Underwater scenes were very jarring to look at. Do I believe 4 years of anticipation is clouding some peoples judgement of the movie, YES, however theres no doubt this is top 3 in the DCEU. It didn’t need to be R-rated but I didn’t mind it. It is no masterpiece of a film but Zack’s best work (hard between this and Dawn of the Dead). Overall 6.7/10 would watch it again but not anytime soon (Way to long). So happy Zack got to finish his vision, now we can move on to bigger and better things with the DCEU. We are spoilt for choice this month for comic book shows and movies. 🙌🏼👍🏼.
Ultimate Cut for watchmen is even better. Ultimate Watchmen, the Ultimate cut of BvsS, and the Snyder cut of this has convinced me that Zack isnt actually a bad director. Its studios that make his movies bad.
The director's cut of Watchmen is just the ultimate edition without the black freighter stuff. It's not that much better as you say. They both superior to the theatrical cut though
As always, great review. The movie isn't perfect, it isn't groundbreaking but it tells a full story with character development and engagement. I was surprised about how similar the overall grand plot was to the 2017 movie but how very differently it was executed, particularly how the scenes that are in both work better in this film. Some scenes are a bit jarring and out of place - I felt it shared similar pacing to Watchmen, but in this case it built to where it needed to be. Agreed that even if there was a cut down version of this film, the barebones were still superior. I think you could have cut an hour out of this film and still made it satisfying.
Wait, I'm confused. Dan mentions in this review that the film is divided into different parts, but wasn't this supposed to be released as one complete, 4-hour film?
It was mind blowing! I could not predict how much I’m gonna like this movie. Before this movie, I believed avengers : infinity war is the best superhero movie : but zack Snyder’s justice now goes toe to toe with avengers . If only he could be lucky enough to completely finish his vision with another movie and end the cliffhanger, that would be dream coming true.
This is why Dan is the best reviewer in the game. When he’s wrong about something he owns up to it. He never has an agenda. He just loves movie and speaks honestly about them.
Cyborg dad saying "I'm your father twice over" has so much meaning. It's for cyborg but can be for this movie. He was the father of it and it died and he birth it again.
The fans pushed for Snyder cut.. it’s better, the fan pushed for Sonic to be redesigned... it was better. maybe these movie studios and directors should start listening to fans more.
If Snyder had to pare down this version to 2 hours, he'd end up cutting Flash/Cyborg story arcs. These are second-tier superheroes compared to DC's Big Three. So its not fair to assign nefarious motives to WB/Whedon. You CANNOT release a 4 hour Justice League to theaters. Difficult choices have to be made in editing rooms.
Dan I’m grateful for your honesty about how you were wrong because most people bury their mistakes. I really love your enthusiasm about this movie. I now plan to watch this
Dan, I’ve followed your stuff since early Screen Junkies. In the early part of your review, you said you can’t judge this by the theatrical cut, but for what it is. But then in your review, that’s all that you did. Compared everything added or changed from the theatrical version. I didn’t watch Justice League, I could not get into it; so I’m going into this as a neutral party. But is it good? Or just better than what was?
It was a good movie. It was really nice to see good character development. I especially appreciate the fact that the studio did the unexpected and release a complete retake. The cyborg development line was great. It sets up the DC universe and lays the groundwork for many DC adventures yet to come. The end got a bit long winded but I am defiantly looking forward to going on that roller costar of a ride with the Joker Batman team up. For a 4hr movie I was ready to keep going another 4 with Joker and Batman. GG to all those who gave us this cut.
It’s fantastic: it’s pacing is close to perfection, the characters ARE the characters we know from the comics while being true to the versions of this universe. Of course the revelation of the film is Cyborg and Ray Fisher’s performance. Not only his story and his origin works in the context of the film, it gives a concrete reason for the character to be in the story and in the team and gives us the opportunity to know him as a person and as a superhero. That Snyder managed to put a full-blown origin story of a character in the film without feeling shoehorned and bloated and unnecessary but to feel organic without resulting in an imbalance or loss of focus is astonishing. Wonder Woman here is the best version of the character ever put to film: warrior princess-goddess with love, compassion, intelligence, courage and fierce and capable and deadly. The Flash is intelligent but capable, understanding his powers and capabilities and becoming a valuable asset for the team, while also being compassionate and loving and stricken by tragedy in his life. A complex character, uncomfortable socially but not a mumbling weirdo. Aquaman strong, confident but not yet fully the King of Atlantis and still not the ultimate team player but smart and eventually collaborative. There is a straight line from this to the Aquaman film. His scenes with Meera were also fantastic. Batman/Bruce Wayne well.. fantastic. Superman.. the best version yet in the Snyderverse and the Superman/Clark Kent we love. Fantastic film.
They didn't hate ray, they hated the dark tone zack was going for. 5 years ago they were still competing against disney. Obviously the executives didn't see justice league (this version) being a big financial success, due to the r rating. Especially since disney was making billions with pg-13 movies. They obviously wanted a piece of that pie. ....which ended up being their biggest mistake. So in a way greed was their undoing. But in the case of at&t competing against disney (trying to be like them) is just not in their playbook. Since at&t makes double the revenue of what disney makes in a year. So there's still a possibility that zack will continue this story if the film is received with the highest positivity. (And at&t see that cash in subscribers skyrocket for hbo max)
@@silvercomet5330 They hated the dark tone zack was going for but they completely give nolan creative freedom for his batman movies which was dark and realistic tone and happy by it one of the reason why they hired zack and have nolan as a producer because they want dark universe in the first place.

With this much fan and critical reception they might actually take a leap and make more movies in the same universe.
Props to you Dan. For admitting you didn’t believe in this project and changing your mind. Unlike a lot of other movie pundits. Great review! Can’t wait for this 💪
You can tell every single frame from the 2017 version when Joss Whedon said "You know, it worked in Avengers. I'm F***** brilliant!"
Your passionate review gave me goosepimples...thank you. I've not even watched ZSJL yet - but I knew I was going to love it, and you've convinced me I'm right. That's how much confidence I have in Zak Snyder.
lord of the rings was a 4 hour long walking simulater and no one had a problem with that, i dont think the length is as big a problem as some people think.
Dan, one thing I have always admired about you is your sincerity in owning up to what you have said in the past. You have remained consistent over the years and you are a glowing example of superb movie critique. Keep it awesome man!
Wow, i was not expecting Dan saying he is a fan of this movie. I'm excited.
You are even making me emotional.
If that’s the case then buckle up buddie, the movie will make you emotional! I could barely contain my screams of happiness.
I always liked Dan's videos and his views on films, but I never thought you're gonna love this movie as much as we fans did. Love how you're so open to accepting when you were wrong and accepting the greatness in this movie.
Thanks for this beautiful review, it counts

The Times that are a changin'
This is unbelievable. I was literally open mouthed and slack jawed during parts of this movie. It is so good. If this movie had been released, it literally could have changed the direction of DC and its movie future. Bravo. A masterpiece.
Maybe we could get a new game of thrones season eight.
can't really change what they done without contradicting their... version of the story. Unless you bring in more "kaleesi's angry" moment

Why? Do you want the rainbow ending with everybody happy because you're too much of a snowflake?
@@rayromano6249 we already got that. Everybody was alive and well. Happily ever after.

Also 1 more thing. They did 2650 vfx shots in 7 months in a pandemic. They deserve a ton of praises. No one appreciates their work enough.

Gotta be honest, I wasn't expecting such a glowing review. I just rewatched the theatrical release again yesterday in preparation. Looking forward to the new cut!
The streaming wars are the reason we have this. Disney+’s success made WB want to invest in a huge HBO Max property. Love it!!
Okay, why are you seemingly the only one in the WORLD that will admit when they are wrong about something? HIGH admiration for that quality in you, Dan. Great review. Cheers.
I really felt bad for Steppenwolf at the end :'(

Right
Same here. I was like let him land something. Superman was a beast!
I feel the same
This. Somehow I felt sorry for him and his wish to come back to Darkseid's grace. Kinda weird but still a good thing.
Man this is such a heartfelt and honest review. Amazing.
With it being four hours I think this is the base script that would have been when they announced that it would be two parts
No. 4 hours+ of footage for a single film is entirely expected for films of this size. It's the first film, but more like a finished version of an Assembly cut.
@Pranav M he said about making 3 part of JC.
The first assemble would roughly about 3h+ few minutes long (then they release the director cut version).
@@plkrtn Snyder said the assembly cut was 5 hours
That stare down between Superman and Darkseid was chilling.🔥🔥🔥
Respect sir. Nobody likes to admit their mistakes these days. Gg
He's being way more charitable than Campea, who continues twisting himself into knots.
And I'm the furthest thing from a Snyder fanboy, but the people who said a Snyder cut couldn't exist were obviously wrong.
@@keefriff99 Campea is ultimate Film bro his reviews lack depth
Dude! Apriciate the honesty. Some reviewers only care about there predictions being right, and stick to that, because they already think something is awful
I’m actually kind of excited now! Thanks Dan!
Really proud of you for being so open about your change of heart!!
This film is a perfect example of what happens when a director has full reign to create a film when the Studio agrees to have zero interference.
Everything in this movie was shot back in 2016 with the exception of ONE scene (which was newly shot late last year)
Zack has stated he hasn't seen the Joss Whedon version so there's no way for him to respond to something he hasn't seen. Now that said of course this isn't what we would have got if Zack finished it originally but it's safe to say it's a close approximation.
Yesss! Nailed it Dan. I also love this film and cannot comprehend the changes they made to so many scenes either.
joss whedon saw what Snyder had shot and said "Nah bro this shit is better than Avengers. I better yeet that footage."

Haven’t given two shits until just now. Now I’m super excited! 🤘🏼
Just watched it. It wasn’t TERRIBLE by any means but didn’t blow me away. As a comparison to Wheadon JL, though, dare i say it was LEAGUES better! (No pun intended until JUST this moment 😬😂)
Also also: maybe it’s just my pent up wandavision hype but like...the setup for the DC franchise based on the hints and Easter eggs given here...dare I say again a dark horse brilliant idea for potential’s sake 🥵🤘🏼
Joss whedon turned out to be an even bigger villain than Darkseid
Thank you so much for your honesty
I‘m joining the choir of people saying that you liking it got me hyped, and I was very „meh“ about it before.
The movie's not great. It still comes from the same place as BvS and that's not a good thing. I think everyone is just overinflating it because this movie seems like a miracle and it's much superior to the completely incoherent mess of 2017.

Would love for you to do a discussion with Roth on the movie!
AT&T is the reason we got this--they saw the fans clamoring for this, and they also saw potential $$$ in this.
So they told WB to make it happen. I too, am stunned by all of this.
Love the Honesty Dan, you like the only RUclipsr I see that took accountability and honesty. This great stuff keep it up.
Synder’s dc movies have so much symbolism behind it which require some diggin in but once u see it , u realise how good of a director he is
Well, maybe one answer to why WB went in that direction is the question, what is the 2:30 hr. version of this movie? If it centers on the interesting Cyborg story, how much is left for the main JL characters? If it centers on the marquee JL leads, how much of the Cyborg "heart" remains? The 2 hr. movie that makes you relate to Cyborg probably should've before JL that way they're not fighting for space.
The version we all deserved... hope they continue the saga
The flash is my favorite DC character.. so when That "flash scene" happened, I literally choked up and said out loud "run Barry run!"
@@DiamondDuke614 Disney plus has recycled garbage and outside of Mandalorian and Wandavision (which sucks in my opinion) has crappy original content
The corporate merger also made a huge difference. WB did not want to make this movie. The new suits wanted to generate buzz for streaming.
AT&T is the real impetus behind it.
1:36 THANK YOU!!! You're one of the first to actually admit you were wrong, initially. You're a badass for that.
This sounds like a “Kingdom of Heaven Director’s Cut” situation.
Oh honey this is Kingdom of Heaven on steroids lol
@@forsaken841 Yep, considering we're getting a little over 3 hours of new footage.
Mmm starting to think so too. Not so much in to DC in General but this is a must see.

Shorter: executives suck just like we always knew they did.
Movie comes out a few hours ago and youtube is randomly suggesting spoiler videos to me, like literal scenes from the movie with thumbnails and titles that tell you what the last scene of the movie is and shit like that.
If people want my little review. Here it is.👍🏼
Much better than 2017 version. 🙌🏼👍🏼.
I like how the MCU fan boys say that it sucks because they copied endgame. First of all, these scenes were from 2017 and engame was from 2019.
Watchmen directors cut is way better than the other two cuts of the film ... I can imagine this will be way better than the josh wheadon version
The BvS director's cut is also much better than the theatrical. It's a pattern
The 3-1/2hr cut of Watchmen is the best version
Ultimate Cut for watchmen is even better. Ultimate Watchmen, the Ultimate cut of BvsS, and the Snyder cut of this has convinced me that Zack isnt actually a bad director. Its studios that make his movies bad.
The director's cut of Watchmen is just the ultimate edition without the black freighter stuff. It's not that much better as you say. They both superior to the theatrical cut though
Dude... thanks for going on with an open mind. Much respect! Can’t wait to watch it tomorrow!
Hell yeah, Dan is my go-to critic. Other than Venom (sorry Dan) I usually share his taste so this is great
They did Cyborg and Flash so dirty in the theatrical release.
Preach!! What happened to Ray Fisher is criminal.
There's probably intermission breaks or something.
From what I understand it is divided into 6 chapters.
You can choose to watch all of it but it is split into episodes.
I cried with JOY when I saw how good they fixe flash in the movie. I LOVE THIS MOVIE xD
Difficult choices have to be made in editing rooms.
man just say you don't how editing and production works instead of all that crap. Every thought process Whedon added was just shit.
I love how fair your reviews are. Now, I'm so excited to see it.
Sound like they really hated Ray Fisher so much that they were willing to sabotage their own movie just to spite him.
