Yes, it is possible to complete a PhD in one or two years. How likely is this possibility? Not very likely. I would say the average person takes four to seven years to complete their PhD.
If it is possible, how do you actually complete the PhD in 1-2 years. You need the following:
A Ph.D program that has a combined Masters and PhD where you can go from a master's to a PhD. You need to stay at the same school where you did your Masters.
You will already need to know and have a strong understanding of statistics and other research methodologies before you even begin.
You need a supportive supervisor that does not care about the thesis quality. This generally is your biggest hurdle, because your thesis will likely be unpublishable. Your supervisor will also have to work a lot in quick turnarounds.
You need to work from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. without seeing your family or anybody else for 7 days a week for the entire year.
You also need to be dedicated, focused, and extremely bright.
You will need to sacrifice any long-term benefit, and you will also have to realize that getting an academic job will be next to Impossible.
My point is, I would not rush you are PhD. This is the opportunity for you to actually discover something new and to discover something about yourself. Take this opportunity, it is extremely valuable.

Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, starting a business, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
r3ciprocity.com: Peer proofreading and editing platform
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.

This video just scared the hell out of me. I have 2 more years to complete my PhD and I still feel like I've not done enough in the past year.

Working every day from 6 am to 11 pm...lol...the average adult hardly can focus 4 hours!!! I worked as design engineer for 10 years and currently pursuing a phD in chemical engineering, the key for any scientific/engineering research is to be SYSTEMATIC, and to be systematic you need to be organized and know what you are doing and where you are going!!

Agreed - that's why I think it is not very attainable. :-)

For someone with industry experience o r.c productivity habits it is attainable...but for someone like a regular student it is not...will extend beyond 2 years...besides fulfilling the course credits...which are another pain in the neck...if you aim to get A's...

Yes, it is, but if the goal is getting an academic job with publications at a good university, this is a different story.

Could you look at Capital Technology University? I think they do PhD in one year and they are accredited. The degrees are intended for those in the commercial sector, not pursuing an academic career.

I’m on schedule to leave the navy with my masters. Or at least finish my masters a few months after I’m out. I should have 3 years on my post 911 GI bill. I want to go for a PHD but that’s my time frame for funding from my service. Could a 3 year or less PHD be actually doable? Could someone please comment for a direction I should look into.
