But the main reason, and this is not my idea, I heard it from the YTber Meta of Smash, is that Ultimate has a lot less universal tech, most of the tech is hyper character specific stuff. Not only that, but Smash Ultimate has a much higher casual audience in comparison to competitive audience, even compared to Sm4sh, and the peeps at BSD found that a meme review style Smash Review has a lot more viewers than the tech videos they were doing at the start of Ult. Not to say I didn't like the tech videos, I liked learning more things about the game in general, but now BSD just isn't a channel I watch for that
I'd love to see more character centric videos! For example, you just did one for Mario, but I'm sure there's other tech that's useful to learn with him, like FLUDD shenanigans. For Shulk, you could cover all the Arts, MALLC, Art Buffer Deactivation, and ASOOS. For Sheik, you can cover the extended Up B and the optimized combo ZeRo posted. Mew two has amazing combos. Remember when shock used him on for glory for the first time and did that confusion into shadow ball thing? Well it also works with a fully charged shadow ball. And also up tilt into up smash. Mewtwo's up tilt is kinda like Marth where it has higher knock back at the tip. However if u hit it with the weaker part of the up tilt it has much lower knock back allowing to combo into up smash. However for each combo there is a tiny segment of frames where the opponent can escape. However it's hard to escape these combos.
And these frames are in between the 2 moves for each combo. Mewtwo can also do down throw or down tilt into fair which is a fast kill move now that it's buffed. And it's kinda broken.
An old video but this still should've been mentioned at the time. The Mario's up special at the end of the ladder combo (the third one in the video) can be used as a DI mixup. Aside from the fact that the first hit of it is slightly stronger an unsuspecting opponent will also be caught trying to DI outward and instead end up DIing inward. It's mentioned in Zenyou vs SlayerZ and Zenyou as other Marios make use of this to KO even earlier than one would expect (IIRC Zenyou's set with ZeRo at ZeRo Saga had that happen.)
Can you do one on Toon Link please? There hasnt been a good video on him that I have seen. Closest was Jtails tutorial but it barely scratches the surface on him.
I made up another combo! Its called the Rebel Combo. Here's what you do. Grab, D-Throw, then do an immediate D-Tilt (twice is optional at certain percentages, more likely around the 0-30%) Grab again, repeat but if its over 30% only down tilt ONCE. If its at high percentages, don't down tilt at all, and do an aerial attack. The flaw is, they can just jump out of it, or do a fast attack, but they most likely air dodge and that's your chance to grab again.
My Combos: F-Air Spike + Down Air + Up Special Side Special (If opponent is running opposite of you/Is charging an attack with end lag) + Up Smash / Side Special if Opponent is small Down Air + Up Air + Up Air + Side Special + Up Special Down throw (If blocks are above you) + down Air
Even though I'm a Mario main, I didn't know about some small details you presented. Thank you so much! :) It's also important to note that the middle hits of his Up B (between the first and final hit) have a ridiculous amount of knockback when factoring in rage. Hitting an opponent in the air with those hits can lead to early % KOs.
So basically button mash if you are Mario, and you'll be sure to get any combo down. Mario is so annoying. I didn't know about the D-Air Air dodge though. Good to know ^_^
+James Parker Gimping an opponent with little ending lag isn't easy. Especially if they are stronger in approaches and can basically throw your character off stage after 50% with a dash attack. Let's not forget their meter. At least macs can be reset.
You can also escape the annoying 0-50% with his d-throwto u-tilts by shielding right after he throws you down. Then simply roll away or punish with u-tilt/grab,etc.

When I see this kind of video, I memorize what I live for the Glory. The only difference is that my opponents play ground with this technique. I do not think it could go further. I just saw a method with the grabs again. Now, it is madness for you.
Also if you're a floatier character, if they try dthrow to uptilt, let yourself get hit by the first one, then DI up and away then try to DJ out before the second uptilt or other follow up comes out.

I think you could have mentioned that holding down and shield when Mario tries to uptilt string you prevents him from getting a 2nd uptilt on many characters.

I main mario. There's something you missed that is actually really important that I hope you can gain. Mario's Up B is actually way more complex than what meets the eye. There are 5 coins in full. All with different variants of knockback. If i wanted to just hit someone with the 5th coin its a timing and positioning thing. Which leads me to me point: The middle coin (or the 3rd coin) has the LARGEST knockback percent rate. Which means for Mario mains out there, if we are positioned perfectly and do a Reverse Up B after the UpAir strings we can try to hit with JUST the 3rd coin and kill even earlier. If the last coin does hit (the 5th coin) which has less knockback (not a huge amount less) it will actually cancel the 3rd knockback coin rate. And the 4th coin has the same knockback rate as the 1-3rd coins. Rage is of course a factor in it all, but it goes without saying sometimes. I know this may be long-winded but i really thought it would be helpful. Credit to the SoCal player Zenyou for showing me this. Thanks for this video though. Even I learned something. I know I'm super late but, characters with a tether can cancel their airdodge by tethering, therefore, removing about 75% of landing lag (if I'm not wrong)

Hey cFive! I actually found out that up throw itself can combo into every aerial (except for fair) at 10%. You can also up throw>up air>footstool>fast fall dair>down throw>up air string at 0-15%. Try it out! Thing is, the person doing the combo needs to di backward for the footstool. And its inescapable if done correctly
Also, three things: 1. The footstool can be short or full, even though the short version can be way easier. 2. As a mixup, instead of a footstool, you can bair>bair>bair so yeah 3. For the mixup, you need to save your jump until the second bair. And you can up throw>dair>dair>up b
I believe that all the lower tier characters in SSB4 should be as good as this. Like give them all the combo potential that they truly need so that they can finally have a better chance at racking up percent like Mario can and no struggle so often anymore.

Well if I was the Mario, I'd take note of that and start doing DThrow - Up B until about 30 percent and then start doing DThrow up air strings.

Honestly the "Ally" combo is something every Mario main should know I didn't even know who ally was when I started playing but I figured it out on my own. But R.I.P Mario mains.

You forgot to mention that if you want to perform a f-air after the d-air, you need to drift back a bit during the d-air.
I think you could have mentioned that holding down and shield when Mario tries to uptilt string you prevents him from getting a 2nd uptilt on many characters.

I main mario. There's something you missed that is actually really important that I hope you can gain. Mario's Up B is actually way more complex than what meets the eye. There are 5 coins in full. All with different variants of knockback. If i wanted to just hit someone with the 5th coin its a timing and positioning thing. Which leads me to me point:
The middle coin (or the 3rd coin) has the LARGEST knockback percent rate. Which means for Mario mains out there, if we are positioned perfectly and do a Reverse Up B after the UpAir strings we can try to hit with JUST the 3rd coin and kill even earlier. If the last coin does hit (the 5th coin) which has less knockback (not a huge amount less) it will actually cancel the 3rd knockback coin rate. And the 4th coin has the same knockback rate as the 1-3rd coins. Rage is of course a factor in it all, but it goes without saying sometimes.
I know this may be long-winded but i really thought it would be helpful. Credit to the SoCal player Zenyou for showing me this. Thanks for this video though. Even I learned something. I hope this didnt come off as me attacking the video, more so just giving my input. :) Thanks beefy

I know I'm super late but, characters with a tether can cancel their airdodge by tethering, therefore, removing about 75% of landing lag (if I'm not wrong)
Mario has some deadly Aerial combos.
Mario is my secondary and I just want to say that up throw into double down air into up b works as a good string, and i enjoy using it

Hey cFive! I actually found out that up throw itself can combo into every aerial (except for fair) at 10%. You can also up throw>up air>footstool>fast fall dair>down throw>up air string at 0-15%. Try it out! Thing is, the person doing the combo needs to di backward for the footstool. And its inescapable if done correctly
Also, three things: 1. The footstool can be short or full, even though the short version can be way easier. 2. As a mixup, instead of a footstool, you can bair>bair>bair so yeah 3. For the mixup, you need to save your jump until the second bair. And you can up throw>dair>dair>up b

You can also DI towards Mario to land on the stage and tech the ground to avoid another follow up. Zero did that at BG5 against Zenyou :)

The Ally combo doesn't scare me very much. Villager can Nair to escape, and Rosalina falls too slow to be punished for dodging.
I believe that all the lower tier characters in SSB4 should be as good as this. Like give them all the combo potential that they truly need so that they can finally have a better chance at racking up percent like Mario can and no struggle so often anymore.
Heres another combo you should test out. 65-85% down throw, up air, fair. I get it all the time off the edge
