- In today’s episode of Kult America we headed over to Kiev Ukraine to do a little taste testing of Ukrainian food. I eat Varenyky, Chicken Kiev, Borscht, Shuba (Fur Coat Salad), and much more! Ukraine is an amazing place with great people and decent food!

I was in Ukraine two times and I LOVE their sweets! They're so... SWEET :D But yummy!
And if you like potatos I also recommend their dumplings with potatos - quite nice change if we like eating pierogi ruskie ;-)

Сам з міста, і бачив багато відосів де мешканці інших країн куштують українську страву. Вам треба спробувати наші страви приготовані в селах (скажімо так - для себе), цей смак ні з чим не зрівняється, ресторани і т.п. відпочивають. :)

+Celaps46 Самая полезная - в Японии, судя по продолжительности жизни. Сейчас они могут позволить себе много животного белка, как результат средний рост стал намного выше, чем лет 100 назад. Самая вкусная еда - в околоэкваториальных странах с большим разнообразием продуктов: во всяких мексиках, италиях, тайландах и т.д. Славянская еда - одна из самых вредных и жирных. Каши, мучное, компоты и соленья - вот и весь ассортимент. Мясо традиционно было по праздникам.

We also have a thing called "zrazy" in Poland - it's mustard pickles and onions with mustard inside a rolled piece of beef :)
In Kiev u need to go in restaraunt "Puzata Hata".. It is taste of Ukraine.. I'm russian, but when I was in Kiev and Dnepropetrovsk, i was eatin great food that I know from my childhood...

When I worked in central Russia at minus 26 degrees at 3 am. You need lard, butter, and oils or grease to keep your body cavity warm. You will sweat it out 4 hours was the max then I had to take a 30 minute break inside the office. Now the summer drink water, fruits, and veggies. So he was eating a lot of winter type food.

Thanks a lot! Kiev of mine is really buautiful city. but it's only a piece of Ukraine's pazzle. Hope next time you'll have opportunity to visit southern and western parts of Ukraine. They are so different and so beautiful. But anyway thanks for your visit!
Not Kiev but Kyiv, guys. Kiev is Russian pronunciation. More authentically would be to pronounce it like Kyiv, it's how Ukrainians say
Вообще в Украине в разных регионах борщ готовят по разному. Но более традиционный украинский борщ похож на рагу. То есть в нем должна стоять ложка. Украинский борщ это не разновидность супа.
Фу, не должно там никакой ложки стоять. Консистенция жидкости должна быть чуть-чуть гуще обычных супов (как мне кажется, банально за счёт большей жирности), с обильным количеством разных овощей.

Shuba is some kind of polish "sałatka śledziowa". In this dish you can find onion, herring, beetroot, potatoes, mayonnaise and corn.
Vareneky is a Ukrainian and the pols and the Russians use it but it originates from the Ukraine
Maybe an idea to do taste testing in seperate days so you don't get so full after first restaurant :p

Kyivan Rus' was most important trading centre in Europe and part of Ukraina 2000 years ago till now. Till Viking and Mongol Neanderthals invade and eventual call themselves "Russian."
Also, varenyky (perohi) are fried in butter, not oil. Best butter, organic from pastured cows not factory farm. HOLubtsi, not "golumpee". Don't speak made up Russian in our country.

It's Kyiv, not Kiev. Kiev is a Russian word and it doesn't exist in the Ukrainian language. And is it just me or does this Ryan have a strange accent? I wonder, where is he from?

Oh my god,ha ha ha...."varenyki" its the same dish that in poland -"pierogi" and there are many kinds of ingredients inside: cabbage with mushrooms or without, with fresh cheese, with cheese and potatoes, with potatoes, with cherries,with bilberries and I don't know wich ingredients were in "borshch" but it must be with cabbage,potatoes,beet root,beans, pork meat and you can eat this with sour cream but its not necessary if you don't want
When i was in Ukraine i ate salo(lard), solyanka soup and pelmeni with sour cream.

The difference is not big)) Ukrainian food is very diverse)) In Russian food not some soups)) It have the salads,fish meal and more dishes. But soups is the most!! And by the way, the first restaurant he went to, I was their, man... so close to us... but don't wish to go their all the time, because you might the only person in there on a specific day and time were they dance, and you are the only ones that are sitting.. awkward! IMHO Lviv is far better than Kyiv to visit. Yes, Kyiv is a capital, but there is actually nothing. Lviv is made mostly for tourists and less for natives, but it makes this city even better. As it is located in the west of Ukraine it is very similar to European cities, but with some specifies.
You should visit Lviv. Believe me, that worth it)

No. I think you mean tzatziky. But you could refer bryndza as romanian or maybe polish too. But it so so typical for Slovak cuisine.

Слабоват товарищ, кто так ест, то? Подумаешь мисочка борща, тарелочка вареничков, полстакана компота, ложка "под шубой". Это ж так на попробовать.

My Baba's holubtzy (stuffed cabbage) have a tomato/ketchup kind of based sauce or glaze on them. I usually just open them up and eat the rice and ground beef stuffing. They're pretty much just like stuffed peppers. And btw .. the varenyky are the same exact thing as Poland's pierogis; our pierogis, if literally translated to Ukrainian just like saying varenyky straight up to a Ukrainian person for example, are more like a roll stuffed with stuff (like mashed potato mixed with a corned beef kinda meat). Most traditional varenyky are stuffed with mashed potato, sautéed in some butter and served with fried onion and sour cream.
Нажаль дуже мало де готують парові вареники з содяного або дріжджового тіста. Ось де справжні українські вареники. З будь-якою начинкою. Солоні: з капустою, з патрошками, з картоплею; солодкі: з сиром, вишнями, порічками, полуницею, абрикосами, сливою, маком. А якось я їла дріжджові вареники з начинкою з желейних цукерок (їх в їдальні сільської школи для діток на обід готували).
Inside of chicken Kiev you have butter no oil.. It's so fucking tasty! :) btw. im Polish so Ukraine and Poland have quite similar food
I am half Ukrainian, and every holiday before my Baba died, we would have all this food. I LOVE kabanos the most :)

That wasn't oil that was butter on the varenyky and a butter based sauce in the chicken kiev, frying oil would be gross.
