Why would the inlet pipe have a tee on the bottom of it rather than straight down to just above the floor of the tank?
Is it just an older /different way of doing it ?

It should’ve been going straight down! In Texas sanitary tees on the inlet pipe are code. I’m guessing the added piece on the bottom was from an old way of installing

Money ! I loved going to work with my dad as a little girl when he did septic work. Things have changed drastically since the 70s 80s. But I always thought this work was interesting.

They use that when it's thick and once it's blended it goes up the vacuum easier
