    I’m starting to think Rapido will become one of the top companies in the business. Hornby and Bachmann are still pretty good for the most part, but Rapido keep bringing out stunning models on a regular basis.

      I think they might already be there to be honest. Hornby and Bachmann will probably always be the big household name but along with Accurascale, Rapido have really made a name for themselves in the last few years with exceptional releases, often of models we could only dream about a few years prior. Thanks for watching 😃

    Thanks for the video. Many years ago I was a volunteer guard at Quainton Railway Centre. I was on duty when Met no 1 came back into service so she has a very special place in my heart. It was my flag and whistle which set her off on her first trip. Think I might have pre ordered two!

      One great thing about Rapido is that, often they don't just release a single loco, they try to build a whole mini range out so that a loco has suitable rolling stock to pull. Or even vice-versa with the previously released SE&CR wagons and the upcoming O1. Thanks for watching 😃

    The low Stirling tender was cobbled together for the White City Exhibition early in the C20th. They ran with the large one which at last it now has. The large tender was discovered at Cossington Fen years ago and at last the loco looks correct. I am surprised that Rapido gave it that small 'cart' but then, the poor engine had to put up with it for at least 100 years.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад

      As I mentioned in the video, the low tender version is being added to range alongside the existing high tender variant. That version will still be available via Locomotion Models as it was before. This just gives modellers more choice. Thanks for watching 😃

      It is a shame but given the amount of detail and features we expect from models these days we're no longer in a situation where manufacturers can churn out simple body shells chassis anymore. Today's models are much more expensive to produce and naturally Rapido (and all manufacturers) need to have a really good idea of how much demand there is in order to know how many to make - otherwise they end up with stock sat on shelves not making themselves or the retailers any money.

    I hate the modern pre-order type system, I have been bitten as many times as I have received a quality model, you simply do not know what you will end up with as the final product doesn't exist when you lock yourself in to a pre-order. Also, with Rapido specifically, ordering direct carries quite a premium over what other retailers sell the excess models for at release time. The latest example being the J70 set, I could have ordered a set from Rails of Sheffield for the same price as what Rapido asked for to complete the purchase, however, I'd already paid Rapido a deposit of £45. Quiet a gut punch, even though the finished model/set is excellent.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад +1

      That’s the nature of the market these days I’m afraid. If we want manufacturers to tackle more niche locomotives in a highly detailed manner, it isn’t economical to make them in larger batches as the manufacturers need to know what the demand is. You can of course take a chance and hope that somewhere has some left over after the initial release but it’s a risk.
      The other thing to note is that, if you’re ever not happy with a model you can always return it - although I would say that most manufacturers are pretty good at sorting out any issues. Personally I’ve not come across many models that just aren’t fit for purpose.
      Similarly Rapido are no different from most manufacturers at setting their RRP and letting the retailers have a discount on that. There’s nothing stopping anyone ordering from a retailer instead although some customers do prefer to deal directly with the manufacturer itself. Thanks for watching 😃

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy Yeah, the modern market has allowed us to get some fantastic models that we wouldn't necessarily see as you say.
      My big gripe though is that I cannot always commit to a model at the time of announcing the pre-order, but the risk of missing out on a model that is required for representing a particular line or prototype has seen me overextend a couple of times, praying that they don't come to market at the same time.
      The Heljan Ruston 165 has been the biggest regret to date, thankfully I managed to get a refund on that one, but the worry is always there now that I may suffer a repeat

      @@ThatModelRailwayGuy oh man more waiting.
      I was hoping they would have announced something by now to keep my hopes up.
      But I sadly have to order from their rival Hornby now.

      I think there was perhaps too much variation within the A Class for Rapido to be able to consider them - but never say never, especially if the E Class sells really well.
      Don't forget that there's also the Heljan Bo-Bo electrics, the Bachmann Class 20s and their Pannier in the London Transport livery too... plus the modern day and vintage Tube Stock. There's actually quite a bit of London Transport/Underground models available when you look into it. Thanks for watching 😃

    You know a tank engine is small when a Y7 towers over it....

      Definitely! It's bonkers how small these models are yet still incredibly detailed. Thanks for watching 😃

    It sucks that I'm going to have to miss all of the loco runs.
    Do to money issues right now.
    Man I wish I can get all of these.
    But if I could only get two of them it would be.
    The( Stirling single)
    And the (Jones goods)in the lime green.
    And yes I'm a big steam locomotive fan

      You may already be aware of this but with the Pre-Orders you don't pay now, only when the model arrives. You could potentially Pre-Order a loco to lock in your specific model and then decide closer to the time whether it's still finically viable... or potentially put a little bit aside every week to have enough by the time it releases. Thanks for watching 🤩

    Is it just me that doesn't like sound fitted locos? It is very clever but it really doesn't appeal to me. Each to their own.

      No, not at all. There are plenty out there that don't like sound fitted locos, just as there are many that still prefer DC analog over DCC digital control. That's why manufacturers still make non-sound fitted locos - if they didn't...well that would be more of an issue for those like yourself but I can't see that happening anytime soon. Thanks for watching 😃
