I know this series is SO. Much. Work. for you. But I LOVE IT. You could create an entire separate channel with longer form, weekly pie making. I'd totally continue to watch after September. Also, I'm totally on board with getting back to lard as a staple in our home kitchens.
I know she has two oversized pie plates. Maybe both are used sometimes. It’s so beautifully edited and lovely to watch the process while being enchanted by the music I couldn’t tell how many were made. I’m sure if she were making the occasional pie in a regular pan she would give a normal size slice and run out with a dozen people. When I see people eating the pie they are not skimpy pieces and everyone gets some! Maybe it’s a loaves and fishes miracle.
I'd save all the crustl scraps to make what we have always known as curlers. Just roll out cut into triangles and coat w cinnamon and sugar (brown/white...both if you feel wild) and bake off so nice w a cup of tea
In Quebec and some other parts of Canada , those cinnamon brown sugar pie crust roll ups are called “pêtes de soeur” which translates to “nun farts” lol.
Just like my German Grandmother made!!! Looks great! Love lard crust! My southern Grandmother used lard for fried peach pies and biscuits and, also, to season green beans and green collards. It all tastes yummy. We didn't eat tons of it but it wasn't as bad for you as was proclaimed by makers of Crisco and vegtable oil. Neither is butter.
Reminds me of visiting North Dakota (my husband's grandparents). She had Rhubarb in her back yard and they make Rhubarb pie, bars, jellies, everything. yum!
Love pie September! In the uk we use lard and butter in our pastry (half and half) .. Rhubarb pie is a favourite in our house! Looking forward to more of your pies!
When my kids were little I would take leftover dough roll out sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon . Bake it they loved it. But you had to watch close. Pretty pie! Good Lard!!! Lol !
Same here! Or my sometimes if my mom had a little extra filling, she’d make a little pie in a tiny cast iron skillet. Such wonderful memories of cooking with my mom.
Pie looked great! The music was genius: that jazzy serene feel to go with mixing etc…and then, “Oh Sweet Mystery of Life, I’ve Found Thee!” when the beautiful Pie was shown: Perfect. I love September Pies.
My Mom always used lard. I remember when Dad would slaughter a hog and mom would render the fat for lard .Dad would also make meat skins out of the pig nothing went to waste.
Just love these pie videos. Such memories of growing up and combined with the types of music of my childhood and teen years from 1960’s and ‘70’s brings such good feelings!
I love strawberry rhubarb pie🤠❤️. When we lived in Ohio, I was in High School. The first church service we attended at our new church the Pastor when he prayed said, “Dear Lard” my sister and I could not help laughing. Have used lard to make retried beans.
My dad one year planted some rhubarb in the garden and my mom made this awesome rhubarb cake with it. The rhubarb planted loved being in our garden and kept coming back. So we had that cake multiple times. I would think that the new owners of that house still have that rhubarb plant hanging around. I love the little bit of tartness it gave the cake
Thank you for recognizing that lard is not bad for you. That myth was started by the hydrogenated fats people. Everything tastes better with lard, supposedly even biscuits.
The Weston A. Price organization promotes returning to a traditional way of cooking snd farming. Perhaps you have heard of Sally Fallon and her book Nourishing Traditions.
As long as I don't need to get that toxic stuff down my troath. In Belgium they fry their fries in it. Not only because I love vegs, but also because nowadays there s no need to kill many animals, people could hunt some, as the vast majority doesn t need all that fat and calories, less physical labour , more office workers. Needless to say fat and grease will never be healthy, why not enjoy beans instead. 🙂
Beautiful! Half Crisco or (lard preferred) and butter are my standard crust recipe. I keep a small can of crisco chilling in the fridge just for crusts. Also, strawberry rhubarb is a favorite of mine, yummmmy! My standard- 1 1/2 sticks cold butter 3 cups AP flour 1 tsp salt 1 tablespoon sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon, optional 1/3 cup very cold crisco 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
Living in the south many older folks rave about the lard of their youth. Lol. I’ve always wanted to try it in biscuits. I’m with you, our bodies know how to digest animal fat. Not so much with the hydrogenated oils. It’s lard or butter for me!
Lard pastry is the type my granny always used, she was born in the 20s so that figures! But it makes the best pastry & is even better when you let it overcook ever so slightly!
I have always used half lard and half butter for my pastry, also if making a sweet pie i use ice cold orange juice to bring the pastry together in place of the water, again a lovely looking pie Megan, well done xx
Here in Canada we usually use Tenderflake. I follow the directions on the box it's so easy and I can get 5 pies out of it, to make tops and bottoms. One of our summer favorites is Rhubarb/strawberry pie!!! Yum. Yours looks perfectly delicious! Enjoy
The oven looks so clean! You’ve inspired to me make more pies as well. Quiche was on the menu last week. Cottage pie this week, and we will call it that from now on. Thank you for that tidbit of knowledge, plus it sounds so quaint. I could see you challenging yourself with suet pies one of these days!
I love all this pie baking series you’re doing. What a great way to learn and better your skills! I used to cook with lard a lot and it was a lot better to use for baking, in my opinion. Love your family!!
You've inspired me to try baking my favorite pie, strawberry rhubarb. I've never made it from scratch but I did today and I'm so proud of myself lol☺️👍
This was my step-dad's favorite pie. When mom made it, she chopped the rhubarb and sugared it alone, then let it sit overnight to get a bit more syrupy and soft. She combined it with fresh cut strawberries just before baking, so they don't get soggy. The rhubarb to strawberry texture compatibility was closer this way, softer rhubarb and less soggy berries. Also a gentler tart/sweet 'dry' flavor that was the perfect palate cleanser. I recently learned to soak strawberries in water with a little bit (.5 to 1 teaspoon) of baking soda, for about 10 or so minutes, then soak in plain water for a little bit, rinse, and they are super sweet and juicy! This is good for eating raw, but I have not tried it before heating the berries. If you want a buttery flavored crust, maybe explore a lard-butter blend?
We've made 2 of your pies so far. Both were winners!! Strawberry rhubarb pie was my dad's favorite. He had a vegetable garden in our backyard and he grew rhubarb along the fence line. This brings back some good memories. Sometimes you'll bite into a rhubarb pie and get a big taste of sour but it's a good sour. I don't know how else to describe it:)
This is my husband's favorite pie but we live in Texas and Rhubarb is hard to come by here. I usually am able to find it once a year to make a pie. My grandmother use to make Lard crust for her pies and they were the best! I am going to give it a try!
lard crust looked lovely to work with my mums used to make a rhubarb pie but always used to steam it first then the juice from that was mixed in with the sugar to make a syrup to coat the rhubarb but yours look so yummy
Other awesome pies are pecan, pumpkin, and sweet potato. I have made a keto chayote squash pie. It’s low carb and with the right spices and low carb sweetener tastes like an apple pie. Replace apples with chayote squash. Also a staple for Thanksgiving at my husband family dinner is Tollhouse cookie pie. Bet the kids would love that if they like chocolate chip cookies. Love watching your pie making.
Finally, you made my favorite pie. My Grandma made this pie when we would come for vacation and that is one of my best memories. And lard is a must for pie dough.
You are doing so good and your pie making and this rhubarb pie looks so good good job I’m enjoying watching the pie making how I want to bake pies are usually do around Thanksgiving time and this will give me other ways to make crust thank you I thought the same thing that lard wasn’t good for you
Watched all of your September pies videos. Will try making some, especially this one. Looking forward to your videos for October about thanksgiving dishes and dessert. And the same in November for Christmas dishes, cookies etc... Sorry I had to throw in those ideas, it’s just because I’m very much enjoying. Love to all 😍
This seems like it would be wonderful. I had Rhubarb once as a child, i don't remember it. Lard, I don't eat it often, only in homemade tamales. Thanks for this inspiration.
Your Pie making for the month of September is awesome😃👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Also I agree thank you for pointing out that “lard” is not the bad culprit 😃👍🏼 Thought I would toss out an idea for you to ponder for the month of October, since it will be the month before Thanksgiving. That would be to create side dishes that whether sweet or salty (meaning not sweet) to give individual ideas to add to some of their favorites for the upcoming holiday season or for “just be because”😃👍🏼. I know someone else also mentioned a new cookie recipe, or it could be something of a bar type. There are so many ways you can continue to try new things, while sharing and encouraging everyone watching to do the same 😃👍🏼 Thank you for taking the time to do this and to share with all of us❤️Blessings
I have a pasta bike cutter and it makes a zig-zag cut and cuts about 4 strips of crust at a time. It sure makes my lattice pies gorgeous. If you’re looking for more tools, I suggest this.
I love a lard crust! Check your recipe, the double pie crust recipe has 21 cups listed instead of 2 1/2 cups. Thanks for the inspiration, the tomato pie was SO GOOD, it's going to be a menu regular here!
As a child, my mom would give us a rib of rhubarb with a small container of sugar. We would dip the rhubarb in the sugar and just love it. On it's own, rhubarb is very sour.
Pearl is such a doll! She has been the highlight of September pies! Love her cute personality ❤️
I know this series is SO. Much. Work. for you. But I LOVE IT. You could create an entire separate channel with longer form, weekly pie making. I'd totally continue to watch after September. Also, I'm totally on board with getting back to lard as a staple in our home kitchens.
It amazes me how far you stretch one pie for so many people! I’ve never got more than 8 pieces out of a pie. Kudos!
I think she uses oversized pie dishes which could be why. I am going to pay closer attention now on that one.
Also, with a different pie every day they don’t need huge pieces all the time.
@@janetbyrne7765 The miracle of pie!

@@lizagervais8621 . LOL !!
I never get sick of knorpp family videos! You have inspired us to make pie this month. We have made four so far.
Yay!!!
Just like my German Grandmother made!!! Looks great! Love lard crust!

I love seeing Pearl’s reactions in these videos. She is so funny.
Reminds me of visiting North Dakota (my husband's grandparents). She had Rhubarb in her back yard and they make Rhubarb pie, bars, jellies, everything. yum!

I’m 68 and my mom always did the same when she made a crust.
Mine too and when I make pie I also do that😊
Same here! Or my sometimes if my mom had a little extra filling, she’d make a little pie in a tiny cast iron skillet. Such wonderful memories of cooking with my mom.
I did that too! Sometimes we cut it into shapes with cookie cutters. They really looked forward to eating the crust
though.
Lard pastry is the best. Rhubarb is my favourite! The redder, the riper! Thanks Megan!
I love that you are doing your month of learning just like Andrew.
Pie looked great! The music was genius: that jazzy serene feel to go with mixing etc…and then, “Oh Sweet Mystery of Life, I’ve Found Thee!” when the beautiful Pie was shown: Perfect. I love September Pies.
You cleaned your oven! 👍
Strawberry Rhubarb is my most favorite pie. YUM
You can see the difference in texture and handling of the lard dough. Looks fabulous.
My Mom always used lard. I remember when Dad would slaughter a hog and mom would render the fat for lard .Dad would also make meat skins out of the pig nothing went to waste.

That was a thing of beauty! Bravo
Also . Lard makes a great moisturiser for our skin.
Another good pie. A favorite in this Irish house. Looks yummy.
Oh my goodness Megan!!!😳 You are becoming a PIE MASTER! That is the most beautiful rhubarb pie I have ever seen! 😁😋❤️
Continuing to enjoy these September pie videos! Pie looks absolutely delicious! Thumbs up! Please keep the videos coming!
Your pie plates are gorgeous along with all the pies :)
That pastry looked so much better. So smooth.
We make Rhubarb & apple at my place.
My dad one year planted some rhubarb in the garden and my mom made this awesome rhubarb cake with it. The rhubarb planted loved being in our garden and kept coming back. Beautiful!! Strawberry Rhubarb is one of my favorites too!!!
My mother only made this type of pie crust. Just love this series so much, and love you both .
Another winner Megan !
Beautiful Lattice ! Loving Pie month !
Rhubarb is my favorite pie!
My late mother used to make nothing but lard pies. Flaky and delicious, rhubarb pie is my favorite as well.
Leaf lard is the best with no meaty taste. It’s really white and looks like that might be what you had. Beautiful pie!🌟
Thank you for recognizing that lard is not bad for you. That myth was started by the hydrogenated fats people. Everything tastes better with lard, supposedly even biscuits.

Yum. This is my second favorite pie, only beat out by strawberry pie!
I love Rhubarb 😍😍😍 looks yummy and pretty 😍
Looks beautiful, Megan. I’m 73 yrs. Old and have never tasted rhubarb pie. I was so shocked that you didn’t have to cook the rhubarb first.
This pie seems so delish n pretty! Love anything with strawberries ~
Oh my favorite! My grandma always made the crust with lard!! She made pineapple rhubarb and strawberry rhubarb.
SO GOOD
I am loving this month. And so far all the pie 🥧🥧 you have made. can't wait for the next day
in the south we all used lard for piecrust and biscuits also..made great fluffy biscuits with lovely brown crust...
My mother always used Crisco in her pie crust. Loved it.
Beautiful! Half Crisco or (lard preferred) and butter are my standard crust recipe. I keep a small can of crisco chilling in the fridge just for crusts. Also, strawberry rhubarb is a favorite of mine, yummmmy! My standard-
1 1/2 sticks cold butter
3 cups AP flour
1 tsp salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon, optional
1/3 cup very cold crisco
6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
so amazing; I admire your dedication and sticking to your challenge. you have a wonderful family. God Bless!
Good job on the pie. Looked delicious. One of my favourite also.
Looks delicious! Loving these daily pies.
Living in the south many older folks rave about the lard of their youth. Lol. I’ve always wanted to try it in biscuits. I’m with you, our bodies know how to digest animal fat. Not so much with the hydrogenated oils. It’s lard or butter for me!
There is no vegetable shortening or oil on earth that can compete with lard in pastry crust! Looks delish!
I love this pie thing your doing
It’s absolutely beautiful
Rhubarb cake and muffins are great too
Lard makes amazing pies!
Yum! My grandma used to grow rhubarb. It came back every year. Easy growing. Easy to fix just like applesauce. Cook on stove with water and add sugar.
We used to pull from our grandma’s garden and dip it raw in sugar to gnaw on as kids 😆
You all should have weighed in on day one…. I’m drooling.
That pie looks so good
What a beautiful pie! And this is how my Grandmothers and Great Grandmothers made their pies, so…! 😉 (Well, without the food processor, of course!)
Your doing a great job with these pies! I’ll be sad when “pie-tember” is over!
Lard pastry is the type my granny always used, she was born in the 20s so that figures! But it makes the best pastry & is even better when you let it overcook ever so slightly!
Love seeing the pies! I also like the music 🎵
I vote we call it Pietember and make this an annual event ❤️😋enjoying this so much
I think we might do that!
I have always used half lard and half butter for my pastry, also if making a sweet pie i use ice cold orange juice to bring the pastry together in place of the water, again a lovely looking pie Megan, well done xx
Interesting! I’ll have to try the orange juice trick!
Here in Canada we usually use Tenderflake. I follow the directions on the box it's so easy and I can get 5 pies out of it, to make tops and bottoms. One of our summer favorites is Rhubarb/strawberry pie!!! Yum. Yours looks perfectly delicious! Enjoy
That lattice work! Pie turned out awesome! And yes, strawberry rhubarb is the best Granpa Knorpp!
I love strawberry rhubarb anything, lol I also love working with lard, I mix it with butter to make a crust.
Rhubarb pie is so good. The lattice really made the pie pretty. Going to try the lard in my pie crust next time.

That was soooo beautiful Megan!! Crisco is lard!! My grandma always made her crust with crisco.
I love Ritz cracker pie. That might be a good one to try.
We've made 2 of your pies so far. Both were winners!!

When we were children we were allowed to get some sugar screwed up in paper to take out to the garden to dip rhubarb in, oh memories
Beautiful pie
This is my husband's favorite pie but we live in Texas and Rhubarb is hard to come by here. I usually am able to find it once a year to make a pie. My grandmother use to make Lard crust for her pies and they were the best! I am going to give it a try!
I love a classic lattice top.
lard crust looked lovely to work with my mums used to make a rhubarb pie but always used to steam it first then the juice from that was mixed in with the sugar to make a syrup to coat the rhubarb but yours look so yummy
Rhubarb is my favorite! My grandma had it growing wild in her yard in Wisconsin. Sadly can’t get and fresh rhubarb in AZ.
I love using lard for pie crust. It makes a awesome chicken pot pie. Love these video's
This is my all-time favorite pie and I’ve never made one myself! I’m gonna do it now! Thanks for the inspiration (and cravings 😆)!
Rhubarb is very much used here in Norway, but we peel it (thinly) before cutting it.

Yum my grandma used to make Rhubarb pie ( never hade it with strawberries tho) and she even made Rhubarb pudding soooo good.
My grandmother only used lard for pie crust you can get butter flavor lard…. looks delicious
Meghan you should after the 30 day pie series you should do a cake series.

September Pies and October Sides 😊🎉💜 Awesome idea, Bonnie D 😊 and as always, thank you for sharing, Knorpp Family!
Grandma and Grandpa know what is good! So it is good then.

Loving the month of pies. Be cool to see anither month of something. Maybe the entire family could do a month of creating something.
I thought lard was very bad for ones health. Now it's fine to hear one can use it. Your pie 🥧 looked yummy and you laced it across so beautifully
