Instead, I was subjected to a constant stream of Lauren Boebert and MTG tweets. The one time I openly criticized Elon on the platform, SURPRISE, that tweet mysteriously *disappeared*. That was enough... I deleted my entire profile a few weeks later and have not looked back. Elon is only a slightly more polished turd than Trump. No thanks.
I'm starting to think that if a platform uses an algorithm to adjust what is fed to people, it should have the same liabilities as a conventional publisher since it is now editorialising the experience

Speaking as a musician one thing I've noticed about both Twitter and Threads is the people who are asking for new music are probably just trying to get engagement to boost themselves. About a year ago Twitter just dried up as far as people looking for new songs and the one's still asking aren't actually listening. I deactivated my Twitter account this summer. Threads is as bad.I usually send my band's and my solo Bandcamp link and can track where the listens come from. Hardly any come from Threads. Part of that could be if it isn't Spotify, they aren't interested but I think mainly they have no intention of listening and just want the responses. Contrary to what the marketing "experts" say, social media is not the best place to find fans.

I don't really partake in social media. RUclips is it. I've heard Bluesky is a very pleasant and nice place to be. I won't be joining, but I'm glad the normal ppl have a place to go. The block is strong over there, too. That also makes me happy.
Bluesky's main selling point is its feeds. By default you have a follow feed that just shows you a chronological list of posts of people you follow. However, you can join anyone's feed (or make your own with a little programming). It's the first social media platform to give control of the algorithm to the people, so if you want to just interact with normal people who share hobbies and interests with you then you can.
I'm not much of a socmed person either, but set up a Bluesky account out of spite and now find it a good way to check in with the few commentators I follow.
Still too divided, each side in there own echo chamber with both parties. X red bluesky blue, even youtube is an echo chamber because the youtube algorithm sends you videos based on your viewing habits so it will never recommend you videos from the other parties you don't side with.

I'm nowhere as famous/prominent as David Pakman and could've said pretty much everything he said about the place once known as Twitter. When Musk was simply another verified user on the original blue checkmark system, I found him to be just another rich guy that has an ego that exceeds the limits of his intelligence, which is among a number of obvious reasons for why I NEVER followed him. After he became the new owner of Twitter, it became more and more obvious that he was an overvalued narcissistic egomaniac that was now having his tweets constantly being brought to greater prominence than they deserved while essentially drowning out the tweets from other users I *actually* followed FOR YEARS. I don't have to promote Bluesky Social as a reason to abandon the place once known as Twitter!
