  • The Aldo Leopold Foundation is working with USDA Forest Service filmmakers Steve Dunsky, Ann Dunsky and Dave Steinke to produce the hour-long Green Fire: The Life and Legacy of Aldo Leopold. Leopold biographer and conservation biologist Dr. Curt Meine will serve as the film's on-screen guide. Green Fire describes the formation of Leopold's idea, exploring how it changed one man and later permeated through all arenas of conservation. The film draws on Leopold's life and experiences to provide context and validity, then explores the deep impact of his thinking on conservation projects around the world today. The high-definition film will utilize photographs, correspondence, manuscripts and other archival documents from the voluminous Aldo Leopold Archives as well as historical film and contemporary full-color footage on location, including landscapes that influenced Leopold and that he in turn influenced.

This video is very wonderful. Like I always say, there is nothing as beautiful as nature. The love of nature is the beginning of wisdom. I am very proud to be a forester. I love nature.Long live all foresters and nature managers.

I was given A Sand County Almanac by my mother as a Christmas gift when I was 19 years old. That was 40 years ago. I can't say it changed my life, but it added much to it and still does. I've read it again and again. Conservation has been my career and life. It is the way.

We'd better get busy soon! Time runs out.
'A new relationship between people and land' ... awesome video, beautiful images ... the story brought me to tears many times. My father was the same age as Aldo and was so proud of the time he served in the Forest Service, for so many of the reasons shown.
As folks stop in here and see this extremely well done video, I encourage them to favorite, forward, tweet, and post.

I was introduced to A Sand County Almanac in 1975 when I first moved to Wisconsin and took Reading the Landscape, an avocational course taught by Virginia Kline. His haunts became mine. His words still bring me tears with their beauty and truth.
