Relax. Roster can always be better. Maxi, Hardy, and some of the bench warmers have a chance to be traded. If they were the 1st seed, sure don’t mess with it, but they’re not. That loss to OkC showed a lot
Maybe Naji can talk Herb into requesting a trade to Dallas 😄. I’m sure he’d love to be on a real contending team and be reunited with his old teammate and friend. The pelicans are a sinking ship idk why anyone with his talent would want to stay there
I don’t understand all this guard talk knowing we’re stacked at that position. I feel like with a solid backup for PJ is all we need to go all the way. Kleber defensively is doing good but the offense freezes once he touches the ball. We need someone who’s at least a threat to drive and or shoot.
because mavs still have a problem defending the point of attack. That's not hard to understand. If they can find guys who can do it all / defend multiple positions like herb then cool but if not then looking for a guy who specialize in defending PoA isn't a crazy idea.
@@Mr.Thomas_Anderson this is the problem with ppl always looking for more you will never be satisfied even after acquiring herb jones. why not tell your stars and role players step up every game. we got beaten by a the youngest team in the league who's mostly under 6'6 under with unknown bench units that's a shame from a team who just cam out of the finals lol
He doesn't solve anything for the Mavs. The scheme isn't predicated on perimeter defense but post. Mavs got guys who are serviceable at that already in Grimes, Klay, and Naji so why gut the roster for another? The Mavs need a strong PF backup for PJ. Herb Jones is a wing on the perimeter similar to DJJ but weighing 208 pounds at 6'8 isn't going to cut it for rebounding especially giving up Gafford which is a no no. That's what ppl seem to forget that the Mavs defense didn't turn top 10 in the league with just DJJ(Herb Jones archetype) and Lively at center but when we added another center in Gafford along with PJ. That is what changed the team.
@@Mr.Thomas_Anderson than put klay in the tradeblock, yeah you will herb jones for what? come off the bench? the klay thompson experiment is a failure, should put naji over him
@Mr.Thomas_Anderson And what did DJJ the great defender do against Shai in our 6 game playoffs then? Oh yeah let Shai avg 32 ppg. Klay played good defense on Shai so he isn't a problem. And has played good defense most of this season. We need Klay for his 3pt spacing. The Mavs scheme can live with Shai getting his not everyone else which is why they don't double. Herb won't change that as it's not an issue to change. We need floor spacing and a bench that has a Strong PF who isn't a slouch on defense and can spell PJ minutes. Herb doesn't have Jones athleticism and has no strength to affect the post. Great defender on a technical standpoint but doesn't fill a hole on this roster that the Mavs need to fill. Especially if it takes Gafford to get him which is a horrible move to make.
@@gunsmotleyqueen I tried to tell them Klay for DJJ/green was the dumbest mistake this team would make in awhile, Nick didn’t listen. Trade package Klay, Herb starts
I mean Herb Jones would be a great addition for the Mavs but the Pelicans would never trade him within the division and the Mavs dont have the actual assets to land Herb Jones.
Instead of trade rumors how about stories of former Mavs like Roy Tarpley, Brad Davis, Sam Perkins etc.. Mavs have a history, the young fans might learn and enjoy hearing about it.
Um I don't think Hardy can be traded as that graph says and I don't think pick swaps have to be swapped. They can just trade those swaps. So they should be able to trade 26, 28, and 30 to get it up to 3.1sts
Herb Jones would be a huge piece for the Mavs if they could get him. He's a valuable asset though, so you couldnt get him for crumbs. Not sure what a trade would look like? It might be an unpopular take, but Kyrie is 32. Small guards tend to fall off pretty hard in their mid 30s. You got him when his value was incredibly low. Now is value has increased significantly. If you were able to straight up swap him for something like Dejounte Murray & Herb Jones, I think it's something they should consider. I'm not sure how Murray would fit alongside Luka, but he is an all star caliber player. Murray is 28. Naji is 27. Herb, PJ, & Gafford are 26. Luka is 25. Lively is 20. That is a solid core to compete over the next 5 years. You'd still have your Lively & Gafford center combination. Herb, Naji, & PJ have the forward spots locked down. Your guards are in MVP talks (Luka) and borderline all-star (Murray.) Klay, Grimes, & Dinwiddie behind them. Nothing wrong with Hardy, Exum, Kleber, & Powell as your 3rd string. The reason I bring this up, I just dont think the current roster can compete against the Celtics if we make it to the finals again. I'm just not so sure bolstering our wing defense vs downgrading our 2guard spot would be worth it. Maybe Kyrie could bring you more in another trade. Just a thought to get the convo started ha.
Hardworking, committed players like Kyrie don´t fall off like that. Just look how Chris Paul and Steph are still balling. Kyrie takes good care of himself, he won´t suddenly fall off
I think Mavs should look at acquiring Obi Toppin from the Indiana Pacers. Obi Toppin could provide the Dallas Mavericks with enhanced defensive versatility, both on the perimeter and at the power forward position. Toppin's athleticism is comparable to that of Derrick Jones Jr., while his size and physicality make him capable of holding his own in the post.
I know y'all will laugh me for this but if the Mavericks can somehow or magically pull a trade for Herb Jones for Gafford, Maxi and picks I think they can pursue Ben Simmons if the Nets buy him out. I know he's been soft but it's a low risk high reward if Kidd can push and boost his confidence. He still a great defender, rebounder, playmaker. They can use him as their Draymond Green and a back up center for Lively since he can also play 5.
I honestly think Mavs can make a play for Draymond Green. Draymond is an ideal fit for Mavs- defense, assist, low turnover is what Mavs need. It would cost them Gaf and maxi but I think have Draymond as back up Center and Pf gives the Mavs a better team. Normally Mavs have the issue they can’t play small ball but with Draymond they can make him the facilitator as a 5. I also don’t think Herb Jones solves the Mavs issues. He would be great Addition to defense and depth. But the Mavs big issue is turnovers and playmaking. That’s why Jimmy butler is also a great fit because he’s a 2 way sf that passes and gets low turnovers. Issue with Jimmy is i would not give up PJ and Klay. Also I we would need a back up center This is why Draymond is a better option solves more answers without causing problems. Jimmy I could agree too if Kevin Love was apart of the deal so we would have a stretch 5 that can rebound. But still need to keep Klay/Pj.

This trade talk is boring. Right now it doesn't make sense to trade for anything that isn't a direct replacement for Maxi. Mavs would need to lose some valuable players for almost any potential trade. Having a top PoA defender is nice but it's not worth making some crazy trades, at least as of now.
How does it not make sense? The team as constructed is the same it was in the Finals. If they go into a series with Boston, the result will be the exact same.
