"Thirteen years ago, my closest friend and creative partner Charles Anthony Silvestri (Tony) lost his wife, Julie, to ovarian cancer. The Sacred Veil tells their story, from their first moments of love, to the birth of their children, to Julie's diagnosis, to their struggle with her illness, and finally, to the moment of her death. Tony and I worked on the piece for nearly three years, and it is far and away the most personal thing we've ever written.
I am honored to share with you this new recording - made just before the COVID-19 crisis - which features some truly extraordinary musicians: the Los Angeles Master Chorale, Jeffrey Zeigler (cello), and Lisa Edwards (piano). I am conducting.
I urge you to follow along with the texts as you listen; the music and poetry of The Sacred Veil are inexorably entwined." - Eric Whitacre

Dearest Eric, I must say that your music and the global singing community you have created over the years, has been some of the most soul stirring, transformational, healing, inspirational and uplifting I have ever heard. And ESPECIALLY NOW, as we are collectively navigating through the darkest of times...this music is in my view, one of many points of LIGHT that are indeed heralding the Brightest, Lightest of times to come. Over the past months I have taken refuge many times in the images of many thousands of people connecting in JOY through your music. This has to be one of the MOST powerful vehicles to dispel the fear and chaos in the world, and return us all HOME. Thank you for sharing the beautiful story of your friend & THANK you always for your vast contribution to the Heart and Art of Humanity. I look forward to the unveiling that will surely take us all to the next level of HOME within. Malama Pono (Highest Blessings) to you and Tony, And May God Rest Julie's Soul. ALOHA from the Heart of Hawaii.
Can’t wait. “Home” really tugged at my heartstrings.
There are no adequate words, Eric - such a loving, touching tribute to not only Tony and Julie, but to being a part of humanity and life.
Where would the world be without our creative artists? Music and poetry vital to keeping joy in our lives. Thank you Eric and Tony. I lost my best friend to a severe flu virus nearly 30 years ago. She was also 35 and her daughter was 5 and son 3. Her husband similarly went through the darkest days of his life when she died. For me it changed my life. I had small sons of a similar age and I suddenly realised that every day we have is precious and there is no guarantee of tomorrow.
I had the privilege of listening to “You Rise, I Fall” at a local concert before covid struck. It was hands down some the most beautiful, painfully emotional music I’ve ever heard. Very much looking forward to hearing this piece in its entirety.
What a lovely way to remember the wife of a dear friend. You are amazing Erick Whitacre. Bravo.
How moving. Looking forward to hearing this work.
What an amazing tribute to not only Julie’s passing but to your friendship with them both. Amazing friend you are!
Love hearing the story behind this. Can't wait to experience the whole piece. Sending you, Tony, and Julie infinite love and gratitude.
Breathe and Smile
It sounds like such a raw process to go through, him reliving those moments to write this with you.
The imagery you create with the lyrics and music are as close to a soundtrack to the true veil of eternity that I have heard. I Thank God we have lives beyond this one and that Tony and his wife Julie aren't really that far away.
I truly admire you, Eric and Tony, for transforming something that seems so tragic and devastating (and I’m sure it was) into something so beautiful, so delicately crafted, and so emotional. That is true craftsmanship. Kind of resembles what God does with our lives, that are so destroyed by sin, He rebuilds it and makes something beautiful, also similar to Kintsugi. Cheers.
If my choirmaster hasn't found out about this, I would love to show her this, because the idea already sounds so amazing and it fits so well in this time!! By the way, thank you so much for virtual choir 6, Eric. I also participated! You are just such a big inspiration not only as a composer, but also as one of the best choirmasters I have worked with so far! Thank you very much for that, too!
outstanding- real creation-
Listening to you speak with such authenticity about this process while I continue to explore this work is a wonderful thing. Thank you and your team for finding a way to make this music accessible to your audiences during the current performance freeze. This is the next best thing to what would have been an incredible premiere in Melbourne this past April. Thank you x
As always with your music, I can't wait to hear in its entirety... Such is the power of your music and of course the human voice...
Listening to the piece was an extremely emotional experience, thank you for the music
I love what you and your team has done with Sacred Veil! I lost my beloved husband in 2003 but sometimes it still feels like yesterday. You have created exactly how alot of people feel about love and loss! See you at virtual rehearsals. Love you!😍
I'm so very sorry for your friend's loss.
This friendship that you share with Tony is so beautiful. What an amazing experience to go on this journey together and create this work together. Cannot wait to experience it myself!! Blessed be :)
Very moving! Can‘t wait for the music and wishing Tony all the best. ❤️
How moving. I have no words. ❤️

Love your work, Eric!
So beautiful and touched my heart. Looking forward to all three movements and has been a dream of mine to work with you xx
Normally I don't want the end of August to come too quickly, but this year is an exception to the rule. August 28 can't come quick enough!
Love all of this.... feels a bit Tavener Protecting Veil in title to me.
Is Charles Silvestri related to Alan Silvestri?
No. Just two brilliant Silvestris!
Genuinely, are you a furry? Just wondering, its ok if you are but I just have to know.
