    ❤Love you all! Discord?
    I'm blown away by how many FPV pilots there are and how many share the same emotions and passion! 😍 I'm doing my best to reply to every comment as quickly as possible. Thank you all for your feedback and support! 🙏
    I’m wondering if there’s interest in a closer community. If anyone would be down for a Discord server or something similar, let me know and give this comment a thumbs up! 👍

    idk why, but my first fvp drone was a 7 inch... Because of the weight and power - every crash costed me like a new frame, controller/esc or motors. Every single one.
    And you crash a lot when you just starting... But still fun. Now i'm in love with a 3.5 because of how much easier it is to find a plce to fly. And how much cheaper is to crash

    I don't want to think about how much I've spent on the stuff hanging on my wall. And some of those have had either some kind of electronics upgrade or repair that required the purchasing of replacement parts. What started as a "meh maybe I'll just dabble a little and not do too much" has morphed into 11 drones of various sizes. My brother-in-law got me started by giving me a spare frame and electronics, motors, wires, and a 6 channel Spektrum radio. I didn't even have to invest much. But as I started leveling up, that's when the spending increased.

    • @fpv-geek
      @fpv-geek  2 месяца назад

      Haha, I totally get that! 😅 What starts as a "just trying it out" thing quickly turns into a full-blown obsession. The upgrades, repairs, and extra parts all add up so fast! It's funny how that happens, but at least you’ve got a lot of options to fly now!

    is it better to start on simulator?

    • @fpv-geek
      @fpv-geek  2 месяца назад +1

      For the basics, absolutely! Starting with a simulator is a fantastic way to get comfortable with controls, and it’s super budget-friendly-you just need a transmitter and a sim like Liftoff or DRL Simulator.
      It helps you build muscle memory without the stress of crashing an actual drone. Plus, you can try out different flying styles and environments. Once you’ve got the hang of it, transitioning to a real drone becomes way easier!

    Exactly the type of video I was looking for!
    I'm currently looking at starting with Cetus X - but I have a feeling like this might not cut it for me. Would you recommend jumping one up to a custom build drone for a beginner or stick with Cetus to catch the grips? I've got a decent budget to purchase higher end equipment mentioned right of the start but I'm not sure how much is it worth it without having any skill at all.
    I was also considering Avata2 but I feel like this might not give me the "real" FPV experience that I want to get to and it would make it harder to get into custom drones since it has way too many safety feature (which is nice but I really want to get into this)

    • @fpv-geek
      @fpv-geek  2 месяца назад +1

      If you’re brand new to FPV, my honest recommendation is to start with a good transmitter and spend some hours in a simulator. It’s the quickest and cheapest way to nail the basics without risking expensive gear. For radios, something like the Radiomaster Zorro, Radiomaster Pocket, Jumper T Pro, or TBS Tango (if you’re leaning toward Crossfire instead of ELRS) would be a solid choice.
      Once you’ve got the hang of it in the sim, the decision becomes more about what feels right for you. I personally started with the Cetus X, and while it’s great for learning, in hindsight, I could’ve started with another tiny whoop as well. The beauty of the Cetus X kit is that it’s ready to go straight out of the box, which is perfect for beginners. Just a heads-up-if you do go for the Cetus X, I’d recommend using the Betaflight version (I dive into this in my other video "My biggest mistake").
      As for the Avata2, you’re spot on-it’s more like FPV-lite. It’s great for cinematic flying, but if you’re aiming for that real FPV experience with custom builds and less safety net, it might not be the best long-term choice.
      And yeah, a custom 5-inch is where most people end up eventually-it’s like the holy grail of FPV. But the path to getting there often involves a lot of crashes, repairs, and learning experiences. Tiny whoops are much more forgiving and way safer to start with.
      At the end of the day, it’s your journey-so go with what excites you most! Let me know what you decide on, and happy flying! 🚁😄

      @@fpv-geekwhat do you mean fpv lite with regards avata 2? Once your in full manual mode your in full manual mode. Your entirely in control of everything the drone does are you not? I bought an dji controller 3 just to practice in sims with the longer term aim to buy an avata 2 once competent. Not really interested in pissing about spinning about on the spot or turning around super fast for no good reason other than showing off to myself and others lol. I just wanna fly free and capture cinematic footage. Although I am considering buying a small drone just for pissing about with for couple minutes here and there. A basher if you will. I was thinking of an beta fpv pava20 pro with dji o4. Can use it with what I already have so that's its appeal plus 5 minutes flight time seems better than 2 minutes which from where im standing makes the whole hobby pointless. I wanna fly not change batteries every two minutes

    sounds like an unrealistic path tbh. you don't have to spend that much, if you don't want to. started fpv around a year ago as well and in that time i spent around 1250€ on it. a big chunk comes from the goggles i upgraded to (from ev800d to 04o pro, so around 500€ alone for both goggles). add to that 200€ for the radio that i already had and another ~100 for the charger i already had that i needed for the 4s packs and for ~1500€ you have 4 drones (mobula 6 fs, mobula 6 2024, mobula 8, crux35), 3 chargers (whoopstor for 1s, toothstor for 2s, isdt k2 air for up to 6s), 2 goggles (could use the ev800d as a screen for others), enough batteries for all drones (all gnb) and a tx16s 4in1 with an elrs module.
    now you could go and shave away all the things you don't need because you don't have the money or don't wanna spend as much. not buying a second mobula 6 saves around 100€, going with a radiomaster pocket instead of a tx16s saves ~140€, not buying the better goggles saves 380€ or buying better goggles from the start instead of cheap ones saves ~100€. the drones i have use 1s, 2s and 4s so you could just not buy the whoopstor (30€) and toothstor (30€) and just have a good charger for batteries of many sizes (i still bought them both because they can run off a usb powerbank). in the end you don't have to spend much more than ~500€ in your first year. your mileage regarding spare parts might vary of course

      Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! 😊 Just to clarify, I never said you *have* to spend that much-it's just what I've personally invested. Everyone’s journey is different, and there are definitely ways to start FPV with much less. You could easily stick to a simulator and grab a Cetus X kit for around $250 in your first year, and still have a great time flying! 🚁 It’s all about what works for you and what you're comfortable with. Thanks again for the thoughtful input! 🙏

    Now I am smoothly transitioning to 5 inch drone based on an Apex 5 frame.
    Current drone was built from scratch and cost me around 160$ (17000₽).
    Used batteries from my airsoft AEG, just soldered them properly
    Later will be moving towards a digital setup, though I am still waiting for something competitive apart from DJI or Walksnail appears on the market.
