You like Huey Lewis and the News ? Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism... that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this -- Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square." The song's so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
I like being seen in public listening to this song with a big smile on my face. Not because I feel particularly happy, but because being perceived as having a positive outlook on life is very much in vogue.
This song is medicine. Fantastically uplifting. Even if you already feel incredibly amazing, listening to this song will take you even higher. It literally shifts the chemical composition in your body, infusing it with dopamine - the happy hormone! 😄❤️
Katrina and the waves when I was 12 years old. I wrote a song on a notebook, and I wrote a song in pencil. Freak wind pick up my song I told the Lord it he wants it to be a number 1 hit he needed to find the right person will keep it the way I wrote the song. I wrote the song when I found out that my step dad really loved me. I live in Michigan thank you for using the name Katrina and the waves and didn't change the way I wrote the song.
That is VERY interesting indeed. Many people writing here feel something special about the above song (and even more so about "Love Shine a Light" which also has a special history). The Holy Spirit is involved in both songs, and of course He is of the Lord, and also like the wind, as Jesus told us. "Love shine a light" was written to honour the 30th anniversary of the Swindon branch of The Samaritans - the world's first suicide-prevention helpline, established in the UK by Rev. Chad Varah - his first funeral was of a 14-year-old girl who did not know what to do when she had her first period, and killed herself. As I hope you know, Katrina means pure... There are quite a few meaningful connections in there; but this is how it ALWAYS is when the Holy Spirit is involved...

Simple, uplifting lyrics, three guitar chords and a three note guitar solo = mega-hit.
This song is the essence of the early 80s New Wave pop ethos.
Forgot a few things that make this a hit. 1) ENERGY! 2) Super positive with no self-conscious regret. 3) It's got "IT."

The postive energy from this song makes you wanna dance❤
This is one of those songs that's pure joy, then, now, and hopefully forever.
I am starting to think that "walking on sunshine" is more about the positive mentality, and not based on physically seeing the sun.
..... you might have something there......
True
Yess, even the video makes it come full circle. No matter if is cloudy outside, there's always sunshine inside us and to reach for that is up to us.
Uh… yeah
Yeah. Katrina is all happy and bubbly, but the band members are all bummed out.
This has been stuck in my head all day
hahaha

I remember being a kid and just feeling so happy after listing to this song. Still sounds as good as back then. That's music that ages well
An instant stress reliever song while at work..what a song! Love it so much❤️
This song will ALWAYS put me in a good mood. 1983, I was 11 years old!
I was 12 😊
It was supposed to be 1983, but it ended not being released until 1985. I have an original cassette tape and it's dated 1985. I was 21 or 22.
@@DeanMk1 I thought it was 85.
Any reason for the waiting 2 years for its release?
1983 for sure :) Not 1985 like most say.
@@DeanMk1 But how come did they released till 2 years after it was recorded?
the best song to start the day

The perfect song to listen to on my airpods while walking into my office.

It's a great way to start the day.
This song makes me want to walk into the office with my walkman
oh no 😳
You like Huey Lewis and the News ?

The greatest hits of the 80s of all time! It's so damn good to my ears I can't wait to go back to the 1980s.

This song is the most powerful, very memorable, cool and fun song.
This song is so immortal that I bet that in the year 3000 there'll be a guy named Fry who'll still be singing this out loud so people won't forget it
another comment said something similar and this sounds very specific. is this a reference to something?
Yes! A show called futurama

This song pumped a lot of sunshine into the UK in 85
In 1985 we certainly needed it.
@@davidmcintyre998 ikr In mitigation 1985 gave us one of our three most washout summers of the decade together with 1980 and 1987. If only they'd been able to time travel back a couple of years and film it in the summer of 1983,or re-shoot it in 1989 or 1990. The song never failed to lift my spirits when I heard it on the radio, though,as it became a hit early that summer

About half of our sunshine total of the 20th Century happened in 1976. Song of the Weather by Flanders & Swann would give you an idea of what it was like in days of yore.
