I fought that blind roll pin for at least an hour, watched a ton of videos, and you solved it. Everyone said use a drill, or make thin pry device from a wire. It was as easy as turning it over, relieving the pressure and it fell right out. Thank you. All of your videos on the 4l80e are great, couldn’t do this without you!

Thanks for the kind words, Justin! Glad the video helped you get that roll pin out!

😊I am going to pull my slipping 4l80 out of my 2000 Chevy Silverado. 200,000 miles that’s why I’m glad you are doing this video on the 4l80. You are very good at touching on the details. Your videos will help me greatly. I’m going to say thanks again. Keep up the great work because I will watch everyone of your videos surprised you don’t have more followers. You will because these are the greatest videos on you tube.

Cool, man - glad the timing is working out and thank you for the kind words...I've been filming the rebuild as well and will post that along with the valve body assembly and testing videos next week.
Yea, transmission rebuilding channels take a long time to grow to any appreciable sizes, simply due to the fact that the target audience is very narrow compared to auto repair in general as well as other, completely unrelated topics...Most watch transmission-related videos to help solve problems or seek advice when their transmission is bad...Once they solve the problem, most usually don't continue watching (I could be wrong about this but I believe that's the general pattern).

I half made the mistake of installing a Trans Go shift kit into my 1991 1-ton truck. Some of the kit is good, but some of it is not needed in a truck application. The first mistake I made was removing the inner spring on the Trans Go 1-2 accumulator valve for a firmer shift. The shift from 1 to 2 was too firm for a stock torque converter in a heavy truck. The second thing was installing the 3-layer separator plate that come with the kit as a back door way to dual feed the transmission. I did do the Trans Go feed limit valve sleeve. I have since completely rebuilt my early model trans with a stage II kit from Jakes Performance. I did every trick in the book. Internal dual feed, rollorized output, direct clutch drum mods, Sonnax line to lube valve, custom pressure regulator spring from Jakes, center support reinforcement plate from jake, heavy duty snap ring, Trans Go heavy duty direct clutch cage springs, Sonnax case saver, Sonnax input shaft bushings, and the list goes on. I tossed the 3-layer separator plate in the trash, and installed a stock plate. I re-installed the inner spring on the 1-2 Trans Go accumulator valve for a softer shift. Drilled the separator plate to only .062 thousand. My trans seems to shift quite well now for a heavy truck application.

Nice work, Chris! Yep, those sandwich-rivet plates are sketchy and even Transgo's feed hole orifice sizing is aggressive, which is unusual for them as they are conservative more often than not.

Any extra things I need to check on a 2004 4l80e with a harsh 1/2 shift besides what you mentioned in the video?
Thanks for this series, going back through my 80e in a couple weeks and I’ll be using your videos to guide me.

Hey Josh, thank you for the views and compliments. Too much clearance in the intermediate clutch can produce harsh 1-2 shifts especially combined with an overly aggressive 1-2 shift orifice size...If your vehicle/application is largely stock, I'd prob leave the 1-2 shift feed alone and keep int clutch clearance to between .040-.050. Beyond that, upgrading the boost valve and 1-2/2-3 shift valve springs, tcc regulator valve should address any remaining shifting and drivability concerns.

Would you be interested in building a transmission for me or could I pay you for some consultation? I have an old square body C20 with a 406 and nearly dead turbo 350. Its subjected to both hauling loads and smoking the tires.
