Sad to say goodbye to summer 2019 but excited to be able share this little video of all my super 8 footage I shot this summer. Filmed in Vancouver, Whistler and Regina
It’s crazy how back then we just wanted more and more advancements in technology but now we’re at a point where the most beautiful things are what we already had the whole time...
Everyone giving credits to the Super8 film but it’s honestly props to the filmmaker for choosing the right type of shots, handheld and shaky, the right types of moments (happy and nostalgic) . Even the locations are very well picked out. Really good job in this . I like it
I've been depressed for a very long time, this gem of a film just made me realise how beautiful life can be and how you captured it perfectly. Just cried, thank you
I've had depression for 3 years, and on 2019.01.01 decided to film my year, so there would be some sort of a reason to "finish" the year. I edited the video on the NYE, and it healed me so much. To see how much stuff I did, how much I cried and how much I survived. Filming was my therapy in 2019 ant the video was like graduation. I uploaded it on YT, even though I'm not a youtuber or anything. But if anyone ever stumbles up on it - I hope it makes them feel something. Sending hugs, wherever you are.
@Online Stranger How about going to Carrauntoohil for the weekend and hiking to the summit? expertvagabond.com/carrauntoohil-hiking-ireland/ I'd love to be able to do that. Here in Toronto I have to drive 6hr into the US to find some decent mountains to hike (Lake Placid, NY). I would really like to hike Ben Nevis in Scotland one day.
Seeing this in 2020 hits differently. When I first saw this video, I thought the 8mm film made it look like I was watching footage from a different time. Now watching this video, I know that I am actually looking at footage from a different time. We didn't know what we were in for when we said goodbye to summer of 2019.
I get how you feel However, you have to go out on adventures on your own volition. I'm a homebody that has a dumb sense of wanderlust. So I wont go out unless someone asks me to. The other night I went on a 2 hour long drive with some buddies cause they were bored and what we came across could make a nice little thriller. Youth is what you make of it. Use it wisely cause 30 is just around the corner
It's so wild that 2019 was such a different world than the one we live in now. And at the time we thought it was so terrible. Maybe we only come to appreciate the good things by the time they are gone.
This is so well done. You made something really special here. I think in some way we all can relate to the feeling you created. Very inspired by this and great song choice.
I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS!!!! This entire video is one BIG MOOD!!!!! I've been editing a video for about a week now and was searching for Super 8 overlays and this popped up and this is EXACTLY what I wanted to create.... this is exactly the nostalgic mood and feeling I was going for. My video is also 3 minutes, it's also a montage of my summer (of 2004), and it's also shaky camcorder footage (from 2004) that transferred to my computer and it's also all set to one song with no original audio...but I have been frustrated because it just isn't coming together how i wanted. Anyway, thanks for "putting into words" exactly what I had in my mind's eye. So many feels - well done!!
I love that you used Super 8! That was really all we had in the 70s but it has a wonderful quality. Keep shooting! Looking forward to the Summer ‘20 film!
Beautiful! I discovered this Video a few days ago and just bought a Super 8 camera today (no worries I have experience in filmmaking) and I cant wait for the first results! Thx 4 sharing man!
Watching this reminded me what life was like before Covid-19, I'm a 2020 high school graduate, and to have my last summer while still in school without the burden of the quarantine was so nice.
i instantly recognized this as vancouver. i love my city. so many lovely things i've adored about the city and my country in this video. it's so incredible and this summer was amazing
Charlie Jones film can be scanned! thats why its so high quality! places all over the world do it. most labs that develop also offer a scanning option :)
The retro video is so beautiful. I've been watching this video over and over again two or three times a day. Please post a lot of videos like this. I like it a lot.
Finding a passion isn’t always easy and when you find it even then it’s hard to commit to it . Specially if it’s time consuming. But remember this . If you don’t use you’re time significantly, it will consume you .
I discovered about the rise of analog cams just about this year and I totally didn't expect anyone to make a beautiful music video like this one using a film camera. Its probably one of the most well made videos I've come across in RUclips. Keep making these type of videos man! Keep using film!
Makes me wonder how people decades in the future who are my age will see this. Like, will they see things like this the way that a lot of people nowadays see '90s or even '00s stuff? Are they going to watch videos like this and wonder how we got by with our iPhones and Xboxes and whatnot? It's so weird to think that there will be things in the future that are going to define my generation when we're all old and shrivelled. Sorry for the rant, but this really gets you thinking.
This is something i love about film. Super 8 Film was used the most in the 80s, when the format for digital was... well let's say not good. Film can be upscaled easily to 4k because its film. If resolution keeps upscaling with the times, film will easily be able to be transfered to that resolution.
'Upscaling' is a term used in video to convert lower resolution video footage to higher res. This is completely separate from film. Film can be transferred to any video format and resolution (HD, 4k etc.)
Beautiful! What camera did you use and what type of film did you put in it ?
Anna Linder Nizo S 48-2 and Kodak 50d film :)
Russell Chai Thank you!
Awesome, where did you get that film developed?
JM I have a Kodak 8mm brownie camera, I’d like to know the same
Nostalgic shit!
It’s crazy how back then we just wanted more and more advancements in technology but now we’re at a point where the most beautiful things are what we already had the whole time...
Christopher Vo yes
Perfectly said
It's how it really is. Most of the time we forget how much we had til it's later in life and we'd wish to greet it back
Christopher Vo so true
This comment hit differently😂💯
Makes me realize how trash and boring my summer was lol
Selemundo Lets make next summer better! Hope you have a blessed summer.
Ah yes, the summer of '19, when I decided to merge with my couch for a month, and not exit my house except for sustenance.
Eh same hereee SOoo mUCH MORE boring
Right
same :(

She has a great eye for setting up shots and an interesting circle of friends to film. Also I like the song a lot, it fits well
Faccss
I believe the super 8 picked the location and well did the editing. Sorry those are the facts.

Ikr?! Almost one decade ago, time really flies
@Thus Spoke Films
I think hes more talking about how long its been since things felt *normal*
Hey ! Im from the 2060s... I miss 20s
Dang
Summer when you gotta lots of friends and money, and somehow a bunch of time all at once.
Right. As fun as all this stuff they did looked, aint no way in hell I’d have time for half of that shit💀

I've been depressed for a very long time, this gem of a film just made me realise how beautiful life can be and how you captured it perfectly. Just cried, thank you
Stay strong man 🖤🙌🏾
Same 😞
Hope you feel better brother. Glad this could cheer you up even if it was just for a little bit

Go outside
They should rename super 8 to super expensive.
Actually back in the 1990s and earlier, it was the cheapest option. There was 16mm, 35mm and 70mm, which was super expensive.
Lords Of Film Shame it’s not anymore. 60 pounds for a roll of Ektachrome Super 8 is unacceptable.
@Eddie Maldonado but they increased the price recently
@Eddie Maldonado idk man. I hope so. But from what I read recently Kodak will actually increase all of their film prices by the start of 2020.
Oh yeah? Try super 16. 500 ft (11 min) cost me $350 a roll!
talk about having the absolute coolest friends.
People in the future gonna see this and be like ”ahh my fake memories”

underrated comment
Lmao
Lmfao in 2023. I wish I had friends this cool
"this summer was a moooooviee"
Wild how a super 8 can make anything seem like it’s the 70’s
Maddie Bilheimer Because people’s ideas of the 70’s are the way it was filmed and not the content
Who else in quarantine is really craving something like this right now. Friends, sports, festivals. WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER.
@ADRIENNE DE CLERCK yeaaah
Man, this is what it must be like to have friends.

stop complaining and moping around, get those friends your looking for. that’s what i’m trying to do. 💓
Even if you recorded a pile of shit with super 8 it would still look amazingly beautiful. I Just love it.
Don’t give any one ideas
I laughed harder to this comment than I’d like to admit... by the way, I am like 69 which just makes this moment even better!
@@MichaelOrtega Holy Crap!! I love your content dude!! Keep it up!
Emily Dreamer , Funny you say that because this video is a great example.
can yout tell me what is super 8 mean?
This gives me such a nostalgic feel with how the film makes it look. It’s weird as I wasn’t born until the late 1990s.
Same with me too lol
Super 8 film is form the late 60’s yo early 80’s tho, it was super outdated by the 90’s lol
Yeag
98' baby here....
Well I mean. This wasn't filmed that long ago. So idk why you would think it's nostalgic?

ACTUAL FILM is so much better than digital. It's so much more REAL. You can actually feel it. It's magical.
Super 8 seems to make being young infinitely more fun that it actually is. It's such a tease, but I love it. Thanks for sharing!

It's so wild that 2019 was such a different world than the one we live in now. And at the time we thought it was so terrible. Maybe we only come to appreciate the good things by the time they are gone.
The world's just getting exponentially worse as time goes on. Nothing is worth appreciating.
I love how you put my favourite song, "Are You Bored Yet?" in here. This makes the video so much more nostalgic 😍

thanks for the song name

The combination of the imperfect but beautiful Super 8 look, the music and these moments of friendship. Truly a heartwarming video, keep it up! :D
That's brilliant. Feels so nostalgic.
Amazing job with the short film. The super 8 and the song really gives it a nostalgic touch.
