I really appreciate this. My dryer isn’t exactly this model but all the essentials are the same. There is no way with only the conversion instructions that I would’ve figured this out without a LOT more time. Thank you!
Great video. One thing I would do is change that dryer vent. Those accordion style collect lint on the inside and is the one of the top reasons for house fires. Go with the flexible vent with the smooth wall inside.
Thank you so much for sharing all this information. You have both informed and inspired me. You have helped me break the mold of naivety, but it is still an overwhelming amount of detail to absorb. Thanks teach!
Thank you. I don't need to do this conversion right now, but hopefully I have learned a few things by watching your installation that will be beneficial later on.
Thank You from a fellow LDS., This is great! I am planning on going "Off Grid' but not in a land locked house. I bought an older 65' Concorde Motor Yacht that we are converting to Electric Propulsion, using Chevy Volt Batteries 360 (Vdc) and Tesla Motors from salvage yards. We will be using Solar, and wind generation, coupled with standby 15kw propane generator, so this will come in handy. we are taking out the HUGE Detroit Diesels and using that space as a hydroponic garden area and some place to store Jet Ski's. Truly Off Grid somewhere out in the southern ocean near the Falkland Islands.....
Really well done. Thank you... I did not know about the adjustment BEHIND the jet orifice, I definitely would have missed that Thank you. Nick in Redfield Arkansas.
I was able to remove the burner through a lower front panel of my dryer and remove the entire burner system with removing 4 screws and disconnecting several wires... may not work for every machine but well worth a try... took 15 minutes
Very helpful. You could've done double duty with the video and also done a belt replacement. The first few minutes were the exact same procedure I followed to replace my dryer belt that broke. Again, very helpful video.
I really appreciate all the great information you share. It's very helpful. Food for thought - You might want to consider sealing the gas line penetration coming through the floor to prevent unconditioned air or unwanted critters from entering the utility room. I'm not sure if that's a basement I see in your homes profile picture so it may not be as big an issue if there is a basement.
How does converting a propane appliance to natural gas .. Save electricity? It uses the same amount of electricity in either case. Lower utility costs? I'm pretty sure propane is more expensive than natural gas, but I could be wrong.
Richard Amirault By not using an electric clothes dryer we save a huge amount on electricity. I converted the natural gas dryer to propane because I can store my own propane and have it on hand when/if natural gas isn't available.
You didn't say anything about previously using an electric dryer in the description. Maybe in your area everyone uses electricity but there are plenty of people in the country with natural gas appliances.
I mentioned propane gas like what you're doing to my wife, she said she doesn't like the smell of propane. Have you noticed any smells from your appliances that are not there with electric?
That is a great question. I don't like the smell of propane either. And if I smelled any that would mean there is a leak. There is no propane gas smell from any of our appliances including the dryer and furnace. I would not have any concerns about bad gas smells in the house.
Just a suggestion for gas dryer safety and increased performance. Get rid of that flex vent line and use all hard. If the exhaust is offset use a periscope (easily crushed by ups so recommend getting one locally). What you are doing is very cool. I have off-grid envy! Hopefully you will have good luck with gas appliances. Every gas appliance I have owned, or used has had constant problems. Electric has always seemed to just simply work, in my own experience. I look forward to seeing your garden and greenhouse. Do you plan to use Mittleider boxes in your greenhouse?
Hello David -- we are preparing to go off grid and your videos have been SO SO helpful! Thank you! I have a question: We also want to use propane appliances except the refrigerator. Do you have a solid source for where to buy propane appliances? We will be located in Western CO when it's all said and done. I have done a brief search, but propane is new to us. Like you, we've been on grid most of our lives -- so many of these things are new to us. Thankfully, hubby is an engineer (and loves your details, btw)....but I want to find the kind of appliances I know will make our home comfortable. I would love to know any sources you may have for them! Thanks again -- we are grateful for your information. You make us feel like it is possible to do what you guys are doing. (And we are close to your age judging by your wedding photo -- probably a few years old -- and we are just starting!)
From my perspective, the perspective of a long time propane user: If I am off grid with free electric it doesn't make sense for me to run anything on propane as a primary fuel source. Why would I pay for something when I have it free?? Propane is like buying gas at the pump; one price today, and tomorrow it is quadruple what I paid today. After last years propane prices (gouging) at over $4.00 a gallon I would never convert anything to propane. In fact, that propane gouging is what made me seriously contemplate solar. At those prices I would be "prepared" to buy all new, electric, appliances. Additionally, if I was a serious "prepper", meaning I am convinced the end is near, then how will I run my appliances when society collapses? The availability of propane will less than the availability of gasoline. With solar I will have the ability to continue using my appliances, even if I have to ration how often I use them, I will be prepared ;)
MrPlayfulOtter We buried two 1,000 gallons propane tanks. With almost all of our appliances and furnance on propane we estimate that will last us two to three years. ruclips.net/video/P_cw8s2gv3E/видео.html
I took the burner off to put the new orifice on. It is sooo much easier and safer to convert with this model. I wish they could remove the scary legalese.
i do the same---ALL clothes on hangers inside the house---no dryer ever--- i even unplug the dryer as well as other electrical items so it doesnt use power in the off mode.
I spent the entire morning converting our new dryer to LP. The orifice would not budge. They put it on way too tight at the factory. I called Maytag. Total waste of time. Don't bother; all they do is answer phone calls and tell you to contact your gas supply company for assistance. I've done these conversions before. I used the correct sized tools. This should have been a simple R&R. The corners of the orifice got rounded off so badly, no wrench would work. I finally took the entire valve off, took it to my shop and used an easy out to remove the dang thing. I was very close to boxing it back up and returning it to the store.
In your video you said that LP gas pressure was lower then Natural Gas. That is not correct. LP gas pressure is 11 in water column and Natural Gas pressure is 7 inches water column.
Thank you so much, I just made the change in my Maytag dryer, I was friked out, when I realized, I was for Natural Gas and I live in Mexico and in the place where I live there is no NG only propane, I ordered the pieces in articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-791222934-kit-esprea-gas-lp-secadora-whirlpool-49572-_JM It matches perfectly, I only struggle a little bit put the new piece in, but with some patience and my daughter's help to put the drum back in place , everything clear and easy. If you don't mind I would like to add subtitles in Spanish, I believe could be helpful as well, please let me know, I didn't want to make a video in spanish since your's is the source and the main one. Regards Gabe
One more thought -- If I have a propane generator to charge my batteries as a secondary source of energy, why would I put anything on propane as a primary fuel source? I'm going on the assumption that I will often be able to run my appliances with free solar energy. I'm really having some issues with how using propane as primary fuel source for anything will ever do anything but cost me more money. I own my 1,000 gallon propane tank so it will always be here, but I sure as heck don't want to pay to fill it. Filling my tank requires a loan from the bank these days -- okay, so it's not that bad, but it is VERY expensive to fill my propane tank, and I fill it in summer when prices are low. The prices double in winter -- they always have -- at least for the past 25 years they have. Propane is our only source of gas out here in the middle of nowhere.
tbeck3579 Thank you for sharing your perspective. Being of the belief that one is none and two is one we have multiple sources for most everything, including power. As an example we have four different ways to heat our house, solar (electricity with wall heaters in every room), propane furnace, wood burning stove and kerosene heater. As we replace our electric appliances with propane we are keeping the old appliances as a backup. Propane for me is very inexpensive. $1.499/gallon. That equates to $0.05/kilowatt hour. That is about 1/3 of the $0.14/kwh that my power company currently charges. If I were to rely solely on solar and use my propane generator to charge the battery bank when sun doesn't then I would need to have propane on hand. But the main reason we use propane appliances is because we would had to have build a solar power system 3-4x larger and 3-4x more expensive than the one we have. That would have cost me $90,000 to $120,000. I am very happy with the redudant supply of power and the balance of energy use.
"Learn how to convert a gas clothes dryer to propane in just minutes. Converting appliances to propane (LP) from natural gas to save electricity", Also you said 9:18 "That's one less appliance using 240v". How the heck does a switch from Natural gas to LP save you electricity.... Maybe that gas leak is messing with you head or something, because there are no 240 natural gas dryers..
I have to do this to mine. Sucks, why do you have to do so much work to a brand new dryer after you just payed over 800.00 for it. F$$K you Maytag, this shit should be done at the factory. Same with stoves, why does the consumer have to switch it over to LP after he/she gets it home? Someone explain it to me, and I know it’s been done like this for years I just want to know the reason
Off grid? You're literally using propane? Did you make it yourself? I mean nothing wrong with it I love propane, but dont act like you're off grid, you're still on the grid, just not directly.
I really appreciate this. My dryer isn’t exactly this model but all the essentials are the same. There is no way with only the conversion instructions that I would’ve figured this out without a LOT more time. Thank you!
Thank you! The instructions that came with the kit were hard to see and incomplete. I really appreciate your video!
Nicely done and the audio is crystal clear. So many folks on RUclips mumble when they speak.
You always make everything seem so easy and reassuring. Thank you for helping others find the way.
bihbgm That is due to hours of great video editing. :) Thank you for your support. I'm glad my videos have value to you.
Wow this is the best video ever!! I have this style dryer and looked forever for correct instructions. Thanks so much!!
If you use a bent paperclip through the new lp gas orfice it is easy to line up and hold while you spin it to get it started
Thank you very mucho for your support!!!
Use the 54 orifice for propane or 55 orifice. Part kit # 49572A . Use 3/8 wrench. Thanks for the video❗️
Well done! My NG dryer will soon be LP. Thanks so much for posting your video.
Great video. One thing I would do is change that dryer vent. Those accordion style collect lint on the inside and is the one of the top reasons for house fires. Go with the flexible vent with the smooth wall inside.

always enjoy your vids and especially the fact that you share with us where you buy things .. cost and skews when applicable .. thanks david

Nice work David. Again, thanks for sharing. Now, get back to work on the geothermal garden house :-)
OrangeJeepDad I agree. Let's get back to the fun stuff.
Are you sure that ball valve is approved for flammable gas? It appears to be a standard plumbing valve.

I went to propane also and saved so much money
Thank you soo much for this video. Switched my whirlpool ng to LP in 10 minutes.☺
Kenmore doesn't own or make anything. It's just the Sears house name that they slap on everything they sell.
Thanks for such a clear and helpful video!
I was able to remove the burner through a lower front panel of my dryer and remove the entire burner system with removing 4 screws and disconnecting several wires... may not work for every machine but well worth a try... took 15 minutes
Thanks for the help buddy, I never would have figured that out by myself
Very helpful explanation, thank you so much
You could make a dryer song. You put the left side in and then the right side in. Then you do the hokey poker and turn the drum around.
***** LOL, you are too funny! Thanks for the humor.
Great video david! Totally showed me how to do that. From star valley ,WY
What do you use for internet in a remote area?
your videos are very good and I like them a lot. Have a nice day greetins from Medellìn Colombia.

Thanks men i have a different dryer but same burner you saved me some money
Nice vid amigo...good instructions...
Thanks so much for this video. Very helpful!!
Nice job. Repair and video done solo.
Great video, thank you!
I have a question if I use a tank propene still work
Yes, a standard bbq Propane Tank will work, with the correct gas line.
the maytag atlantis is a front loading lint screen machine----what would be the steps to convert that model?
+Nadia Ramnath I don't know. I don't have any experience with that model. Best of success to you on that.

How does converting a propane appliance to natural gas ..

How many loads can you get from a 20lb tank of propane?
I've heard about 3 and a half
Nice Job!

For gas dryers semi-rigid aluminum flex
what size is the little valve you changed?? please answer me!!
No

Also use aluminum duct (not duck) tape to seal all corners/ joints.
pilotmattk I like it! Thank you for posting. I'll check locally and if it isn't available I'll order online.
LDSPrepper You might check a specialty appliance store, as mentioned above, they can get dinged. The only way to go for venting.
Thanks for the video

I watched the whole video because it was that interesting
I'm actually looking for a propane dryer. I live off grid as well. My generator can't handle our dryer.

Didn't know that. 😋🐣

So what about after turning it to LG you don’t need to install the other part
The part is the blocking tube sorry
A couple of things the LP orifice is SMALLER and it takes a 3/8's wrench
Thanks
