Not being a Radiohead fan I had never heard this song before so when Geoff's cover was pre-released on Patreon I had no idea what to expect. I was absolutely blown away and spent most of the song in tears. The emotion Geoff manages to portray in the song is unbelievable. It is a truly beautiful song & video. I've watched it many times now & I still haven't made it all the way through without shedding a tear. You are so correct about 2020. I'm so sorry for your losses; I too lost a family member in 2020 to Covid-19 and I myself was hit with a possibly major health crisis in November that I'm still dealing with. Unfortunately 2021 didn't start off any better when my 22 year old son ended up in the emergency room with an extremely serious vision problem. "Hope" was a great choice for your secret word since that's what I'm trying to live with day by day right now.
I like how you noticed the hint of that southern twang. You gotta remember that he grew up and lives in Orlando so while accents aren't as southern as north central Florida, there's still a bit of it in there. I'm a north Florida girl, lived here all my life. While I don't have as strong an accent as most up here; when I worked in a call center I had a lot of people guess I was somewhere between TX, TN and GA. Some how they never guessed Florida since the further south you go the more northern or cuban people sound.
I’m in Orlando myself, grew up bout an hour north, the twangs in FL feel so random to me lol, like I have basically no accent... FL is just a black hole of weird
@@Freakiehippy30 Sounds like you grew up around Ocala then. I'm a lot closer to the FL/GA state line so the accents start sounding more like Georgia than the rest of the state. The black hole of weird is probably spilling out from up here somewhere smh!
Florida’s “black hole of weird” isn’t just limited to accents. I used to listen to a podcast that had a “news of the weird” segment featuring about a half dozen stories from around the world. Almost every episode had at least one from Florida!
I hope this year has been better to you and your family Mike. Only found your channel recently and you may not see this, but I truly enjoy your reactions and analysis - Your energy is infectious and I love the positivity you spread. I hope 2022 will be good to you!
Appreciating Geoff’s lower register, then I’d definitely check out other songs of theirs and his, My recent favorite My Mother Told Me, amazing orchestra of all of their talents in a Viking track.
I’ll have to go back and re-listen to the original. I think I clicked out because he started out with that very nasal resonance, and I was afraid he’d be doing it through the whole song. Obviously I missed out. Now I really want someone who sings or teaches voice to analyze some of the sounds he’s making. LOL. Anyway, great reaction!!
I don't think of him having a 'twang' (which to me implies country), but he definitely has a southern accent which comes out sometimes. After all, he's from Orlando! Regardless, I love his voice and his voice!
His birthplace was actually Virginia. At a young age he moved to Orlando with his family. His dad was in the Navy and was transferred to Orlando when Geoff was 6 years of age and never left.
Love your reaction. I love VoicePlay and Geoff. I would like to recommend Angelina Jordan to you. I think you'll like her. Check out her a cappella version of Gloomy Sunday at 7. She is now 15. Might want to give her a try.
He’s just being modest . Prior to singing with Voiceplay he sang baritone , as cast in Voiceplay he’s a Bass, they asked him to step out of his comfort zone and man and I ever glad they did !
@@alibabie05 i'll agree with you that he has humility, especially in relation to his talent and hard work. My argument has more to do with the technical definitions of voice parts. Where his breaks are from chest and head voice, etc; he falls into a textbook baritone range. He's just a mutant on both ends of the range from there 🤘😍
I can hear it in a few words, but only when he's singing. It's pretty subtle. He was born in Virginia, so between that and Florida the southern roots are there.
Geoff plays piano on his cover of The Beatles' Blackbird. It also shows his range.
Another great one from Geoff is Shenandoah.
His version of Shenandoah is oh so beautiful as well.
8:44 Your imitation of Geoff was beautiful lol
Great reaction! I think this is my new favourite from Geoff - there's something very sincere about it, somehow.

His version of "Blackbird" is amazing
💯% yes.
Cool new intro! Shiny! And this may be Geoff's best solo song yet, but it's hard to choose!
Ah yes, his fry at 8:34 is my favorite thing. It’s an E1 slide, forget why it goes up to lol. But I love it.

Great reaction sir!
Love your reactions man from a fellow Floridian! You need to check out Blackbird from Geoff, it is amazing!

A couple of VoicePlay's fooling around are Dasani Water Bottle Vocal Percussion and Water Bottle Drum Line.

Amazing
If my ears are still as accurate as they used to be, Geoff's range in the song goes from an F1 to a B4.
C#1 subharmonic and up B4 mixed or chest
@@annefrank8619 i think there might be a super brief B0 before
@@lurecyyy Yeah, right at the beginning is a brief B0
@@sethmillan8627 yea B0-C#1 and I actually think he might've hit an Eb1 to in there
Geoff said that he did Shenandoah for his wife and High and Dry for himself.
Go Gators!! Warriors, Friends on the Other Side, Halo (he hits 2 B0s), Hoist the Colours for starters.

I don't think you've done Something Just Like this or Shape of You Go Doggity by Voiceplay. Both very underrated songs.
Ugh ac is cruel. Go diggity
@@laundrygoddess4 doggity is funny tho 😂
@@sprumf 🤣🤣🤣🤣isn't it just?
❤❤❤❤
Sorry to hear about your family losses. Take care, and check out Voiceplay's Warriors. xx
If you want something different, you should watch Cab Callaway, jumping jibe, with the Nicholas brothers. It will shock you.
Check out Geoff’s version of “House of the Rising Sun.”
Geof sounds so good you want to sing along... Don't try to sing along with Geof (shakes head).
I'm more rock... but my husband is country. I'm really digging Little Big Town's
Wine, Beer, Whiskey
I love to see your enthusiasm matching my own.
I'm deeply sorry for your loss. My prayers for you and your family. Thank you for what your doing 😊
So you’re like the opposite of Donny and Marie, except for not being siblings?

He's NOT A BASS!!!!!! Seriously, he calls himself a 'baritone with a bass range'. Even though it's hard to fathom, it's technically correct

Geoff himself called this and others “low bass covers.”
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Geoff is not country at all...your mixing him with Tim.
that's what i thought, too.....i never heard a twang from Geoff !!
