  • When older adults begin to experience physical or mental health changes, like with dementia disorders, for example, it can be difficult to know which steps to take when aging parents need help. It can be hard for family caregivers to know how to balance autonomy and independence with concerns for risk and safety.
In this video, Dr. Sara Qualls, clinical geropsychologist and Kraemer Family Professor of Aging Studies & Interim Director of Clinical Training at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS), will share tips for family caregivers helping aging or elderly parents who are finding themselves in the role of a caregiver.
This video addresses the following questions:
    - What to do when aging parents won't move?
    - How to get started with helping aging parents with dementia?
    - How to have difficult conversations with older adults while honoring their dignity?

I needed permission to be kind and respectful, but firm. You're the only person I've watched giving me that permission. Thank you. Have 86 year old parents who are falling (broken shoulder) too weak to prepare meals some days, cognitive decline, multiple ER runs via ambulance, congestive heart failure, kidney failure, but absolutely refuse gentle suggestions to go to a nice assisted living facility, which they can afford. I'm so worn out over this - emotionally and physically.

What happens when an old mother gets ignored by her children and grandchildren? Not knowing phone. Numbers or addresses is what I’m going through

Bad title. Should have had dementia in the title. I’m looking for heal with slowly degrading lungs of my father. He’s quite there mentally but cannot take care of himself without us actually living there (which we talked about and agree would not work for our family/kids/pets).
Not saying this isn’t important. Just that the title should change 😊
