I have to agree with you that Yukio could have worded it better. the whole "satan is a demon and demons will say anything to trick humans" doesn't land well when Rin is a demon as well. Even if he is half human, Rin is still a demon and this might have been an attempt to reassure Rin, it came off as a backhanded comment. Then follows it with "you have control over your flames" plays a little into what Satan said. That they only want to tame demons. Idk, it's been a hot minute since I've read/watched Blue exorcist. I just think that even though Yukio had been wanting to compliment Rin, he went about it the wrong way and focused on the wrong part of the problem.
I'm with you on Shima. Grew on me so much from being one of the least interesting of the Exwires. You can tell he really does care because he could have left them behind if he wanted to

I don't think so rin is a hybrid you can't use him as an example for demons
