  • A former member of 100T has accused the org of not paying them enough money to eat.
This was huge - and the controversy has only got bigger since Nadeshot, 100 Thieves’ CEO, responded to the accusation in detail. Let’s break this down.

To be fair, based on what Pokimane has said on the Trashtaste podcast, it seems pretty normal for streamers to have a dirty house. Even talking about having fruitflys so bad they got a bug zapper. And that was her experience despite the house paying a maid to clean their house every 2 weeks.
I’m sure they have a lack of work ethic, but I don’t think their cleaning habits have much to do with it.

Got 15% (possibly 35%) in sponsorship money because of the Organization they joined (100T) but didnt do anything to get it themselves but thought they deserved more. Including an extra 2500 for content creation.

85% does not seem predatory to me in this instance. 100T make the deals and bring the sponsors to The Mob. All they gotta do is the sponsor integration (sponsored tweet, sponsored video segment, etc). If 100T don't take 85% of the deals, then how tf else are they gonna make money by signing The Mob? They are already investing enormous amounts of money in them. 60k salaries for each member, pay for production crews/equipment, pay for the people actually making the deals on behalf of The Mob, paying for stream/content related equipment, etc. Then at the end, 100T didn't even end up taking the 85% cut. @@fenixmartin854 This depends entirely upon the value of the sponsorships. For the bigger creators under 100T, they probably have a much different split because the sponsorships for say Valkyrae are worth much more. But for a group like The Mob, who most people didn't even know were signed to 100T, the sponsor deals are gonna be way less dollar value so 100T would have to take a larger split to make profit. This is why in esports, and in entertainment at large, smart people have provisions in their contracts to have the ability to re-negotiate every year. If your brand grew in value over that year, you re-negotiate your contract to get a more favorable split.

Honestly siding with Nade on this one.
Some people are failing to realize that the $60k a year each member earned wasn’t meant to be their main source of income. It was just to help pad their expensive of daily living. The bulk of their money was meant to be earned through their content creation. Which was what they were signed for in the first place, to be content creators for 100T. However, they just simply didn’t put in the work. At the end of the day this was supposed to be their full time job and if you breaker down each members’ hours. Classify was roughly putting only 20 hours a week into streaming. With the Froste steaming about 9-10 hours a week, Avalanche streaming 5 hours a week, and Mako streaming 4 hours. No one came even close to putting in enough hours to even be considered having a full time job. Classify barely putting in hours to be counted as a “part-time” job. The entire Mob crew just simply didn’t work enough despite being allotted so much resources. They have to take accountability and understand that what was being offered to them was more than enough to make a comfortable living in LA if they had just streamed full time like they should’ve.
Secondly, 85% may seem like a lot and it is but at the end of the day it’s a business. 100T needs to see a positive return of investment and the only way to do that was being able to take UP TO 85% of sponsorship revenue if they were to enforce it, which they didn’t do every single time. 100T were investing at least $240k a year into the Mob and needed to make that money back (plus more) somehow since they weren’t taking revenue from streaming, YT, etc… Again, 85% is a lot don’t get me wrong but at the same time it seems very logical for that to have taken place to even gain something from investing $240k a year into a group of individuals who aren’t even that huge to begin with and are allowing to let them pocket all other forms of incomes aside from sponsorships.

Nobody really paid attention to golf until tiger came. Sure there’s jack, Arnie and Gary and so on but they didn’t impact the sport like tiger. Nike and titleist blew up cause of him. And guess what? He’s making over 100mill of of his sponsors cause he brings break to the table. Need another? Jordan. Although we know about the shit they be doing to factory workers but mfers still be buying $300 shoes that only takes about $50 to make. You gotta bring shit to the table if you want to make more. If 100t was so bad, why hasn’t Valkyrae or courage left? Valkyrae, a beautiful woman would still be making a lot of money without 100t with the amount of simp on her stream. Same with fucking courage. Dude is a phenomal and hilarious guy and I haven’t met him. He could be fine off alone without and org. Damn nadeshot should just sign us who wants to make gaming content a living but can’t afford to do so. It’ll be a fucking blessing. Don’t bite the fucking hands that feed you.

While your coverage is alright, it leaves some really important chunks out. A rep from the Fireball sponsorship backed Nadeshot's claims, Froste awkwardly admitting that Nadeshot's counter to the 85% claim was true with The Mob taking 120K from that Fireball sponsorship, Froste going on a real estate site to accidentally refute himself and show that they could have taken much more affordable housing, and throwing every excuse at the book to try and justify low streaming hours and content production. The Mob was around for two years. What benefit would 100T have by having them be broke and having poor access to resources and internet, at the cost of 120K in salaries per year? It just doesn't make any sense. If they were financially predatory, the method (and numbers) don't make sense as it seems 100T was maybe breaking even on the investment. The way I see it is simple: Nadeshot's response was made with confidence and conviction, while Froste was hesitant and backpedaled a lot.

The contract splits, if true, remind me of what they call in the music industry as a ‘360 deal’ that record companies get young music artists to sign. It’s a pretty scummy contract practice, but from what it looks like the mob members didn’t put in nearly enough work so it was bad business on both sides really.

I’m not disagreeing with u just clarifying something cuz social media is different from traditional media. Usually big orgs that pick up smaller creators keep in writing that they can take up to 85% from sponsors they bring in until the contract ends but usually they don’t take that much. If the creator gets a lot bigger when the contract ends they either leave the content org after getting the clout and sponsors or they try to get a better cut. The top creators (that are still in orgs) usually only get 15-20% taken from them instead of 85%

I agree but the difference would be that those artists even if they work hard are still blocked by labels to put out music and can only get money from their tours or other things. These streamers can put in the work and get all that money. It’s like when people live with their parents and don’t pay a dime, you work an all that money is yours… but people still don’t do it. People would love to have these opportunities as “bad” as they sound

Kinda crazy this is how their relationship played out just feels like an entitled kid with a pretty good opportunity... I've seen gaming situations back in the days and they would have lawnchairs and futons with no money but making it work slowly grinding out their own brands until they were self sustainable while also having the orgs opportunities. Nadeshot, BigT, Scump are all prime examples of what sacrifices you can make to make this stuff work. Now that hes shown this side of himself he's done for.... a shame!

In no other decade has the expectations of young people been to not struggle when entering the workforce. When you say "starting a career and being exploited", you mean working for someone else? Forgive me, but as someone who worked minium wage when it was $5.15 an hour and went to college at the same time with huge loans, this life sounds like a fairy tale. I care about real issues of the people with real struggles. Listen, I am probably coming off harsh. Where I grew up, no one had an easy upbringing. It took me 20 years to make good money. I get upset seeing these complaints from people that actually arent offering anything useful that got an opportunity and blew it but still had a roof over there head and place to sleep. Practically every job in the world can be considered an exploitation of young people by this standard. That is capitalism, love it or hate it. My argument is that this isnt the type of struggle a majority of the world experiences. Im not coming at you or this YT channel. This just isn't news worthy imo.

Truthfully I don't feel bad for Froste at all. The whole Mob made their choices. I do however feel bad for Classify because I remember watching all the Mob content and thinking why aren't the others making content like Classify. He was grinding and actually trying his best. If anything he got screwed because of the others around him not pulling their weight. Classify has gone on to grow lots and be in tons of content. As for 100T taking 85% people are misunderstanding that. It says they are allowed to take that much doesn't mean they have to or will as told by Nade when says they only took 35%. Now I get it that is high and yes the Mob was young but come on this isn't predatory. The org is taking a huge risk in the mob and needs a way to manage and compensate that risk. I just feel bad for all the 100T employees who put time and effort into this and now are some what getting dumped on because if some wild accusations.

Are esports orgs fundamentally unsustainable? It sure looks that way from the outside but it's hard to tell. If only there was a website the purported to cover esports that could use a series of investigative techniques to better inform the public.
