James Garner is possibly the classiest guy every to come out of Hollywood! I recall realy liking him in The Great Escape as a kid and later in the Rockford Files. I also like the fact that he has stayed married to the same lady for so many years. That is a rarity in his business. A good man!
A Hard Life Jim Garner. Open HEART ❤️ surgery, knee surgery. Then he Finally Had a Fatal Heart Attack 💔😭. His Children Want To Keep His Memory Alive. Thanks to RUclips, You're Memory and Catalog of Work Will Live on Forever Jim Garner 💔❤️✝️🌐
I am a huge Rockford Files fan.I grew up in the70s and that show just takes me back. Not to mention it's good tv and they don;t make them like that anymore.
They just don't make men or great actors like James Garner, he was a born star. Watched him as a child growing up and there will never be a man like Jim. One in a trillion. We loved you then and will love you forever. RIP Jimbo. Thank wisdom for TV and technology with ghost in the machine.
crazy how he became an actor.ruclips.net/video/w_03n_PyVqA/видео.html If a lady had not pulled out of a parking place in front of him, he would have never been an actor. He pulled into the parking place and saw a sign with a name on the business of an old high school buddy. He went in to see if it was him and it was, he offered him work, he was a talent agent and producer. Jim was looking for work, he never thought to be an actor. ruclips.net/video/FHaJ0A8MiEk/видео.html
I met Mr. Garner in August of 1985 at Pine Valley G.C. in New Jersey. I purposely sliced my ball on #15 to hit in into his fairway so I could say hello. I was nervous and called him Mr. Rockford. He loved it...CLASS ACT
Best TV actor and arguably the best TV series - so much so that my ringtone is The Rockford File theme and my voice mail plays the recording from Rockford's answering machine. Lots of people leave messages for me that begin with "Hey Jimmy, this is Angel..."
I am sorry to say I didn’t watch The Rockford Files when it first aired. Through the ‘miracle’ of reruns though, I had discovered this gem. The show has a reality to it of a guy using his talents to eke out a living at $200 a day (plus expenses). He wasn’t’ high-flutin’ or in the gutter, just a regular joe. That is why it endeared itself to many viewers. Have the whole series on DVD now so I can watch them all. Over and over. R.I.P. Mr. Garner. The world misses you.
My Friend met Jim at a parade in Jim's home town of Norman, Oklahoma at the 2007 Centennial parade. Mr. Garner was the Grand Marshall. My friend, Scott, said he was really nice, and called Scott 'son'. I'm a big fan of R.F., RIP James.
RIP you will be missed. I still enjoy this show to this day. Where else can you have a kick ass detective, driving an awesome car, smoking a cig. Sure don't see that now! And the stories I used to hear about the filming of this show always made my eyes light up. And that VOICE of yours made me melt....... A true legend is gone.
He's damn right about how tough a grind a TV series can be. I knew a guy who was a regular on one, and when I visited him on location he was literally falling asleep in his breakfast because he was so exhausted from working until the small hours the night before.
I remember what a huge fan James Garner was of the Oakland Raiders. He was such a fan that the team gave him a sideline pass to watch the home games whenever he came up from Los Angeles to watch a game.
That was *the* thing I looked forward to, seeing an episode of The Rockford Files on NBC every Friday night. The character Garner played always had that sarcastic wit, and was so good at BSing his way out of trouble!
Ken Seabury That’s right! It was Friday nights, thanks for reminding me, I looked forward to the show knowing I had a whole weekend of no school and could stay up to watch it!,, Great memories, and it seemed like he never got old until the 1990’s.
He was the very best. I watch the reruns to this day and I still love the show to the moon. I got my wife watching it and she loves him and the show. We watch it all the time
I was about 3 or 4 when Rockford files came out. I always remembered the theme song. My husband and I started watching it together when it was on Netflix and we’re bummed when it was taken off. I just found it is on IMD and I think on Hulu. He was so handsome
Now I know why the shows were well written. They had 3 top notch writers. I didn't realize the pounding he took. The long hours and all the operations. No doubt he gave 100%.
Toward the end the discussion about the Universal Studios, show what a stand up guy he was, not just for his money, but every other actor who worked on the show. You look at many of the episodes and you can see him limping around But he stayed working on the show because he did not want the 150 or so people working on the show to be out of work
I remember Leo Gordon. Wonderful bad guy, 6'2" looked so mean. Married to Lynn Cartwright ( she played the older version of Geena Davis' character in "A League of Their Own". They were married from 1950-2000, amazing when a marriage can survive Hollywood. Las Vegas, NV May 29, 2019
imo. all of the Rockford Files are great.however the ones with Angel Martin are some of the best/funniest ones ever. to bad that there are no actors like James Garner anymore. one of a kind.
James Garner reminds me of Burt Reynolds - both action stars with that cool sardonic sense of humour .Also both ended up in a lot of pain with the roles that they essayed ; Reynolds lost his good looks in the end with a reconstructed face .Whoever said movie making was glamorous obviously didn't try his luck in front of the camera . RIP to both of them .
My two favorite Rockford lines: "You better be reaching for a sandwich, cause I'm gonna make you eat what you pull outa your pocket." (While going nose-to-nose with a young wanna be gangster reaching in the jacket of his three piece suit.) "Now you know the sound of one hand clapping." (After his obnoxious hippy female acquaintance gets punched in the face by a gangster.) My favorite Rockford episodes: All that had Isaak Hayes co-star in..... "Hey, Rockfish"
James Garner is possibly the classiest guy every to come out of Hollywood! I recall realy liking him in The Great Escape as a kid and later in the Rockford Files. I also like the fact that he has stayed married to the same lady for so many years. That is a rarity in his business. A good man!
He was called the last real man. S'truth.
I like him too.
He was 80 something when he died so he did pretty good.
One of my favorite actors. He was so smooth, yet tough. RIP James Garner. Thanks for the memories!
Loved The Rockford files and Magnum P.I...Starskey and Hutch was pretty good. The Incredible Hulk. Wonderful.
2021 television is junk compared to that stuff.
Love him. He's part Cherokee. Superb actor. You're missed, Jim!
well thank god he was not full cherokee or he'd never leave the teepee to do any work like acting lol.
Nicest guy in Hollywood, a class act. god bless ya jimmy..!
ROCKFORD FILES WAS THE BEST SHOW TO GRACE TELEVISION!!
Absolutely ! ! !
A bit of a stretch. But definitely an iconic show.
You're a Class Act Jimmy!!! Miss ya!
The face, the voice, the smile, the charm!!
I am a huge Rockford Files fan.I grew up in the70s and that show just takes me back. Not to mention it's good tv and they don;t make them like that anymore.
They honestly don't. Those days are long gone I'm afraid. Sad to say
❤❤👍🙌
A class act all the way. I miss the Rockford Files.
They just don't make men or great actors like James Garner, he was a born star. Watched him as a child growing up and there will never be a man like Jim. One in a trillion. We loved you then and will love you forever. RIP Jimbo. Thank wisdom for TV and technology with ghost in the machine.
Amen!! Bravooo could not have described him better:))

Jim was always cool dude. BTW Golden who is woman in profile pic?
A very genuine guy. It's hard not to like the fella.
Truely one of the last Americans.... Served in two wars, a wounded veteran, lived through The Depression. He's the MAN......
I just finished the entire DVD series of The Rockford Files, James Garner was such a fine man, actor and serviceman.
I can still watch Hawaii Five O, Kojak, Barnaby Jones, Cannon, etc.... but Rockford is the only one I can honestly say I still enjoy watching.
I LOVED THE ROCKFORD FILES.
Rockford and Barney Miller
Garner is a superb interview. Smart, tough and likable.
ROCKFORD was a great show. Jim Garner was a great actor, and a likeable person.
"Thank you James for entertaining us for all those years. We love you brother."
KirkSH52 He was awesome. Loved him when he played Wyatt Earp alongside Bruce Willis' Tom Mix in Sunset 1988.
But he had NO love for Bruce, all due to his on-set behavior and attitude.
James Garner was a true badass. One of a kind, thx....
A NATURAL actor , he did not have to "act" , just say the lines ! So great !!
I met Mr. Garner in August of 1985 at Pine Valley G.C. in New Jersey. I purposely sliced my ball on #15 to hit in into his fairway so I could say hello. I was nervous and called him Mr. Rockford. He loved it...CLASS ACT
Cole Thornton Great story 😂😂
Love the anecdote ...by the way HE WAS Mr Rockford.
I remember he was ageless for such a long time. The Great Escape, Maverick, others. Sorry he got hurt on the job so much. Miss him.
What a great actor loved the Rockford files
James Garner, we love you! We. Is you too.
James Garner is one of the good guys. Loved him as Rockford!
What a terrific guy, met him a couple of times, a real decent person. When you talk with him it's like he's known you forever. Miss him, an Original.
I would of loved to have met james garner you were very lucky.
Great show, great car, excellent actor, I still love the Rockford Files
Best TV actor and arguably the best TV series - so much so that my ringtone is The Rockford File theme and my voice mail plays the recording from Rockford's answering machine. Lots of people leave messages for me that begin with "Hey Jimmy, this is Angel..."

$200/day, 1974 dollars.
Favourite actor of mine always made me smile.
RIP Mr Garner.
I loved his interaction with Stuart Margolin as Angel. They were brilliant.
My favorite Rockford episodes were always the ones where Angel was in the episode. They were great.
Yeah angel could be funny.
I loved this show, but couldn’t stand the character Angel
This guy and this show among the all-time best. God bless all from Patrick
Always loved Jim Garner. Binged on Rockford Files this weekend. Best weekend ever! 📺☎
Rockford Files, one of my favorite tv shows of all time. RIP Mr. Garner.
Man one of the best movies ever was Space Cowboys.. loved it!
Johnny 5 It was great, we got to see his bare bum. A statuesque rear end, what a treat.💕💕💕💕💕😂
One of my all time favorite actors. He had a genuine folksy way about him that was very likeable.
James Garner is the best totally love the guy!!!
My Friend met Jim at a parade in Jim's home
town of Norman, Oklahoma at the 2007 Centennial parade. Mr. Garner was the Grand Marshall. My friend, Scott, said he was really nice, and called Scott 'son'. I'm a big fan of R.F., RIP James.
Jim Garner was cooool. Would show up every year for the month of May for the Indy 500 in the 80's and 90's RIP.
One of biggest wishes was to see Jim Rockford turn up in Magnum PI God that was a dream of mine.
From a kid from England UK
God bless you Rockfish
this guy REALLY had class.
Great interview from the past .
He's damn right about how tough a grind a TV series can be. I knew a guy who was a regular on one, and when I visited him on location he was literally falling asleep in his breakfast because he was so exhausted from working until the small hours the night before.
My favourite show of all time.
James Garner was always my favorite on TV whether it was Maverick, Rockford, He had that unique personality and lines that was truly his.
James was a truly great, sardonic, saavy character actor. one of the best EVER. he sure paid a price in injuries tho. nice interview clip. thanks.
Wonderful man…loved every movie, television series he starred in
My all time favorite actor and show. RIP to a legend. Gone, but will never be forgotten :)
i love this show
One of my Favorite shows in the 70's!
Gave me a lot of pleasure back in the 70's and if anything even more just now. TVM Mr Garner (if you read this), nice one.
James Garner is by far the best actor ever! I would love to meet this guy and have him autograph my firebird.
nobody will replace him , another gone for ever
happy memories watching the rockford files in the 70's with my mum she just loved james garner
Looooove Jimmy Garner!!
He 's my idol. The quintessential hard-luck hero!!
Lovely James Garner.
RIP! One of the best US actors..
AGREED. THEY DON'T COME ANY BETTER.
He seems like a very genuine and down to earth type of dude. Love the fact that he was thinking of other actors and not just himself.
James Garner A class actor and wonderful man we all lose today on his passing RIP jim.
We're all the poorer for his loss; he was one of the more decent ones.
we sure did he was an awesome actor
Craig Seamus
go pull a robin williams you damn idiot
Craig Seamus As was said in GRUMPY OLD MEN, pull your bottom lip over your head... and swallow!
SuperPat88 does that make you a grumpy old man?
Great Actor..
RIP James Garner
People who haven't read "The Garner Files" and like James Garner should get that book!
I remember what a huge fan James Garner was of the Oakland Raiders. He was such a fan that the team gave him a sideline pass to watch the home games whenever he came up from Los Angeles to watch a game.

Love the Rockford files. Real entertainment.
Rip James garner.one of my favourite tv shows ever was the Rockford files.
Hell yes same here when I was growing up. Better Days back then........
I felt bad everytime Jimmy got beat up. But he definitely stood his ground.
Why don’t you buy the complete dvd box set and treasure it forever?
@@marleypumpkin4917 I actually bought it for my dad 2 years ago. It’s on the IMBD channel now
I’ve watched the Rockford files series numerous times.
Now I know why the shows were well written.
They had 3 top notch writers.
I didn't realize the pounding he took.
The long hours and all the operations.
No doubt he gave 100%.
The great late Stephen Cannell.
super nice guy in person...funny and just overall a nice guy
James Garner was a great actor...Loved The Rockford Files...and Maverick...
Did great job in the Great Escape
Love James garner, I used to watch him as a kid and loved it now both my kids watch it and know how he was. R.I.P. Jim!
Wonderful video of a wonderful man. Rockford Files is my all-time very favorite tv program. Thanks for this.
I miss both shows. Rockford was great. Bob Costas did wonderful interviews. You can tell he did his homework,
Toward the end the discussion about the Universal Studios, show what a stand up guy he was, not just for his money, but every other actor who worked on the show. You look at many of the episodes and you can see him limping around But he stayed working on the show because he did not want the 150 or so people working on the show to be out of work
And also being such a great actor, he knew that a guy who appeared to be a bit broken down and ran with a limp-well, that *was* Jim Rockford, right?
you could put this show on right now and it would get ratings
Mr. Garner stated in his autobiography that he never would have made it through Rockford without cannabis & Vicodin. He was usually always in pain.
When he said there was this big guy on Maverick, I just knew he was going to say Leo Gordon!
a great actor
sadly missed forever...
I remember Leo Gordon. Wonderful bad guy, 6'2" looked so mean. Married to Lynn Cartwright ( she played the older version of Geena Davis' character in "A League of Their Own". They were married from 1950-2000, amazing when a marriage can survive Hollywood. Las Vegas, NV May 29, 2019
Both Leo and Lynn were stunning looking stars.
He actually played Rockford’s buddy “Charlie” in an episode…….and got beat up, of course lol
imo. all of the Rockford Files are great.however the ones with Angel Martin are some of the best/funniest ones ever. to bad that there are no actors like James Garner anymore. one of a kind.
I love Rockford Files! I loved the Trailer! I want one just like it!
Proud that my parents named me after him ... BRET ... but my parents added the extra T. Thanks Mr. Garner and Mr. BRET Maverick! RIP.
so fuckin cool i grew up with this fella RIP JIM
Best opening titles ever and possibly the best ever theme tune. Oh yeah, Gretchen Corbett best looking woman on planet Earth?
Beautiful Beth Davenport....Rockford was a lucky man....
What a bad ass.
Rockford Files is my #2 show of all time, #1 of course being MASH.
Very true!
I couldn't agree more with you.
One of my favorites.
I love those glasses
Cool dude .. Love Rockford... Glad he told them, If you don't want to do it the way I want to do it go find somebody else.
All that had Isaak Hayes co-star in..... "Hey, Rockfish"
I was sure I knew every line from Rockford Files, but you've got me stumped with the sandwich line. Which episode is that from?
Always getting beat up, and never getting paid. The good guys and the bad guys were always mad at him. Great show.
