I was originally going to get a Roland SC-88vl as my first Sound Canvas in January 2010 but unfortunately I was outbid so in March 2010 I ended up with the SC-88 Pro. But in this video those sounds were from the SC-55 map which I think has a better clean guitar sound compared to the Native map which sounds a bit thin. The synthesizer on Windows 7 is Microsoft GS Wave-table synthesizer which is basically a software based synthesizer with lower quality SC-55 samples and no reverb. Adlib Sound Blaster was FM synthesis. Before I had a real Sound Canvas I originally made do with Microsoft Wavetable Synth or just before I got an SC-88 Pro I was using the latest version of Virtual Sound Canvas which I downloaded as abaondonware but it had latency issues and doesn't work with any operating system after Windows XP. One reason for getting a Roland Sound Canvas was because I didn't like some of the sounds in my Yamaha PSR-295 keyboard.
I had one of these for a while. I hardly ever used it, but it's really great for midi renders.

It maybe a legendarry peice of kit, but sounds exactly the same as a PC's built in midi playback. The sounds were always a bit thin to me.
It isn't a FM synth, but a standard Windows Microsoft GM Wavetable Synth
