Renaissance Ciphers: Secrecy and Security.
How did the Medici protect confidential information? The use of cryptography, or code-writing for secrecy and security purposes, was very wide-ranging. The techniques of encoding became increasingly sophisticated, moving from symbols replacing letters to complex ciphers.
This workshop will explore the impact of cryptography from the Renaissance to today’s top notch and state of the art technology.
The conversation will be between George Lasry, a computer scientist in the tech industry, and a member of the DECRYPT and the CrypTool projects, and Marcello Simonetta, Director of the Art of Negozio Program at the Medici Archive Project.
