      A horrible job. Looks like someone outside of this crew edited it, who had an extremely bad taste in their mouth of the show. They left out some great scenes, but at least we watched the Unsullied stomp their spears to the ground for a good period of time.

    13:52 Jon would have died from dragon fire. Being a Targaryen does not automatically mean you are immune to heat/fire. Daenerys' brother Viserys was also a Targaryen and was killed by the heat of molten gold. And Jon not being immune to fire was shown in season 1 when he killed the wight that tried to kill Jeor Mormont in his chambers. Jon threw a lantern at the wight and burned his hand :)

    I never had a visceral reaction against the anticlimactic mellowness of the finale. I thought it fit right in with the ambience. We've been conditioned by TV shows to expect certain things and anything not sticking to that format is automatically chalked up to the bin. But GoT always had a way of screwing with expectations, it was a bit too late to be dismayed. But how can you stand Bran on the throne? Hell no I didn't want Bran to be king lol, but I knew none of the main players were gonna end up on the throne either, and I was fine with that. I always thought it was gonna be Gendry or someone like that. As a House Lannister diehard I'm glad The Lions went out unbowed. I had no interest in seeing Cersei become dragonfood and Jaime dying while protecting her IS the most selfless thing he could do as a quote unquote good guy. I can't think of a happy ending for a tragic character like Jaime. I dig the post-apocalyptic ruinous dark new world look they went for. The eerie aesthetics of the ash'd out desolate looking throne room, with the Queen of the Ashes all alone and that haunting score playing, it always bring back a rush of emotions and memories for me. The montage in the end is very wistful too. The show was about the Starks. The Starks won. Both the Targaryens didn't. I don't have an issue with that. Some of the iffy shit they did to get to that point? Yes. But the destination itself? I'm fine with it.

    The main reason why I hated Season 8 is that for 8 seasons they build up Jon Snow's true identity as the rightful heir to the throne, brought him back from the dead, became King of the North, defeated the White Walkers, without a one on one battle with the Night King which was also very disappointing, all that just for him to go back to the Nightswatch? What a waste! I hope Jon is at least the new King Beyond the Wall! So what was the point of R + L = J? Still pisses me off today! 🤬

    • @Steve-eh4db
      @Steve-eh4db Год назад +1

      You mean the fan video? ROFL! You're about deserves, not about what the remaining characters coveted. You've been watching too many Disney movies, with the perfect ending...& they lived happily ever after. Not about you, you weren't the author or the screenplay writer, as many angry people thought they really were. This was true GOT, it didn't do things by the book, hence their success & why we liked it. The pilot episode told you where the remaining main characters landed, I suggest you rewatch it, if you're still pissed off. The only person responsible for the last couple episodes was George. Long before the pilot aired, he knew exactly where the cards would fall & told D&D on how it was. D&D revealed that at the Emmys, backstage, after the show copped their 4th straight Best Drama Award, they changed nothing for each remaining character. George fit all the puzzle pieces to where they belonged, in the end, Bran was left. Bran from the outset was being groomed to lead, he was the one that was most in awe of the king coming to Winterfell. In your head the throne was the biggest prize, from Jon's perspective to lead the true northerners was something where he would feel as if he belonged. You didn't quite pay attention to Aemon Targaryan at the Wall, or his plight. George took over a dozen years to write the next book, after all the tantrums, he decided to change the ending, his ending. Funny, dozens of original reactors, who made videos as the episodes first aired, not one bitched before episode 4 of season 8(A small minority of them complained about the ending). After season 8 is over, all of a sudden season 8 was horrible by the protesters. Spoiled people, thought they were the screenplay writers, because the show didn't end as they predicted, but more because their favorite show came to an end & they couldn't deal with it.

"If you think this has a happy ending you haven't been paying attention". But replace "happy" with "satisfying" or "logical". They basically took something that worked and crapped all over it. All the years of building amazing character development thrown in the trash in just a few short seasons. Dany always leaned toward wiping out her enemies..watch the show again and you’ll see it throughout. She did a lot of things similar to Cersei, actually. We just didn’t feel sympathy for her victims, because we labeled them “bad.” Her advisors were the people who often held her back, but she lost those she trusted, and lost faith in Tyrion due to his errors in strategy and his love for his brother. There were other people along the way, like Daario and Lady Olenna, who encouraged her to stop listening to her advisors and use her power. She doesn’t feel the weight of taking a life because she has never done so with her own hands. Dragons are like nuclear weapons, and she can say one word and obliterate anyone who stands in her way. I also loved Dany, but when I rewatched, I saw it was there all along. This show was never about heroes and villains, good and bad.

    • @moe5020
      @moe5020 11 месяцев назад +1

      No her MO was always targeting the rulers and assimilating the people into her flock, she never targeted civilians, she locked up her dragons over 1 childs death. She also clearly felt the weight of her rulership when she had watch the execution of one of her own followers after he commited murder. A few scenes of her getting passionate about claiming her birthright don't excuse the way she is written in season 8. Plus we all knew she would be become a tyrant because it's just the obvious way GRRM would want to go but we all thought it would be a well written arc and not just her seeing her friend die and suddenly burning civilians for literally no reason.

    • @alicia1465
      @alicia1465 11 месяцев назад

      @@moe5020 I think one of the strengths of the show, but also weaknesses, is leaving a lot to interpretation. Everyone reads into it differently, and shows have a hard time bringing subtleties out like a book can do. So I don’t really want to tell someone what they should think or what perspective to have, but I know my personal viewpoint does not see “bad writing”. I recently rewatched the whole series again and loved it even more. I know many don’t feel that way, though. And that’s okay. From my perspective: She rose to power, then she set sail for Westeros. She suffered loss and loss. She began to doubt the loyalty of her advisors. She was already suspicious of Varys, but then seeing Tyrion make mistake after mistake, and seeing his soft spot for his family, would also make her doubt him. Her Westerosi allies, which were mostly with her to seek revenge, are lost. The Iron Islands remain, but Theon comes to Winterfell not to fight for his Queen, but to fight for the Starks. The Northeners don’t embrace her at all. They love Jon, the true heir. She lost a dragon, half her forces, and Jorah to the army of the dead, and yet people celebrated Jon. She didn’t have the love and admiration she was accustomed to, even though the battle would have been hopeless without her. And once people know who Jon is, and her birthright is in question…the thing that she felt was her destiny, it’s like a last straw. when you add the lack of respect from the Northeners, the loss of her loyal Allies, and the death of two of her dragons and half her forces, Cersei’s antagonism, and the growing suspicion of Tyrion to the truth about who Jon is, it is all a build up that leads to the end. She was always comfortable with violence (it’s easy to ignore her body count when they are deemed as bad people, but did they all deserve death without question?) but I do think it got way too easy for her to take lives. But all those losses, including actually losing the right to the throne she had spent years thinking was her destiny. And I think one of the main questions is to ask if anyone should be in possession of a weapon of mass destruction, to have the power to make a snap decision and wipe out a city. I mean, we are humans with biases and emotions. In her defense, she has every reason not to trust Tyrion’s advice at that point, and to not trust that Cersei really surrendered, as Cersei lied before with the pretend truce. I think her character had a tragic ending, and I don’t see it as her turning into sone evil villain. Anyway, if you made it this far, thanks for reading! I found the story to be absolutely fascinating, but I understand sone people feel differently. I think rewatching with an open mind reveals a lot that was always there and was simply missed. At least that was how we felt while rewatching.

  • @Delboy0
    @Delboy0 Год назад +5

    My only criticism of the final two seasons was they were not enough episodes and things happened to fast. But everything else was consistent with the show. It was a victim of its own success, because even thought the books were made not to be formulaic and predictable, a lot of viewers still wanted a formulaic ending where Jon Snow became king. That is not game of thrones, so they were bad at that. They were also mad at Danny’s heel turn, especially women who invested a lot in this character and was their favourite character. They telegraphed her evil from the first season with little bread crumbs. Like characters saying Targyryens suffer from mental illness and become cruel showing she was morphing into her brother and she was murdering innocent people since the first and second, but all they did was a point of view shift with her where they showed her killing innocent people, rather than have it off screen so viewers would think it was for the cause.

      Nothing was consistence. How come that Bran is king in the south and Sansa in the north being both from the same dynasty xD I mean having a Stark lord as king would have made the North be more tied to the south not the other way. Also having a Queen in the north goes against patrilineal primogeniture from which the Kingdom goes by. At the same time, Daenerys who has been for 7 seasons caring for people, slaves and so on, now suddenly becomes a violent crazy woman that kills all people... yea no sense what so ever. It also doesnt make sense in the narrative, all the build up for 8 season for nothing? Lets be honest, D&D were rushed to end things so they could go work with disney.... end result=disaster. The books would be different, for sure. Martin already said so now seeing the blacklash it faced from the public.

      @Alejojojo6 Год назад +1

      She wasnt evil, wtf are you even talking about???... not event a single hint. Yeah she watch her brother die but she didnt kill him. She just felt sorry for him. She was way to nice for my liking with all the slave liberation and so on.... Also, the Targaryen mental illness is just 3 generations on its family, it's been overdramatized. And just her father suffered from it, from her direct ancestors. Most of the others were not on her line. And she wasnt suffering from it... It isnt madness what we see but power hungryness and ruthless behaviour, nothing mad. Also, Targaryens usually show it early on in the form of obvious crazyness (not cleaning yourself, believing yourself a dragon, ingesting fire etc...), not in this way. So again, makes no sense this ending at all.
      The perfect ending would have been Jon and Daenerys marrying and ruling the Kingdom both with a dragon for example. That would be a better ending. Or just Daenerys. That was the promise of the premise all along since season 1... it is still a story, and needs to fullfill its promises. It's basic in storytelling. Otherwise, you end with this mess of a story end that is bad and unfilling.

      @@Alejojojo6 1) 'How come that Bran is king in the south and Sansa in the north being both from the same dynasty'
      Bran is no longer a Stark, but the 3ER as evidenced by his sigil you can see on Brienne's armor in the final scenes.
      2) ' Also having a Queen in the north goes against patrilineal primogeniture from which the Kingdom goes by.'
      Things change, bub. The point of the show. Westeros is exiting the Middle Ages and abandoning those mores fantasy obsessives cling to religiously.
      3) 'At the same time, Daenerys who has been for 7 seasons caring for people'
      Yeah, she totally cares about all people named Daenerys. She cared about those slave people so much they wanted to sell themselves right back to slavery.
      4) ' now suddenly becomes a violent crazy woman that kills all people...'
      'Suddenly'? The definition of watching a show with your eyes closed.
      5) 'It also doesnt make sense in the narrative, all the build up for 8 season for nothing?'
      If you don't understand what the show is about, of course you won't understand the ending. You think the point of the show is that violence is awesome, revenge is totally cool and messianic power figures actually deliver on their promises?
      6) 'She wasnt evil, wtf are you even talking about???'
      Oh, crucifying people without trial, burning people alive and feeding them to her dragons while saying 'Maybe you're all innocent, maybe not. I'll let my dragons decide', murdering prisoners of war, controlling an army of brainwashed and abused slaves, promising rapist savages they'll wreak havoc on Westeros, creating an ideological construct where she gets to rule over everyone just because she discovered slavery was bad... the little stuff!
      7) 'It isnt madness what we see but power hungriness and ruthless behaviour, nothing mad.'
      The one correct thing you said. And do tell me, are power hungriness and ruthlessness good things?
      8) 'The perfect ending would have been Jon and Daenerys marrying and ruling the Kingdom both with a dragon for example. That would be a better ending.'
      Hahahahaha! Talk about not getting the point of the show. It would be like Frodo and Galdalf using the Ring to defeat Sauron and transforming the world into a Care Bears universe.
      9) 'it is still a story, and needs to fullfill its promises.'
      Your projections aren't promises. In case you haven't noticed, the show has had an ironic relationship with its narrative since S1, you know, when it PROMISED the audience Ned would end up at the Wall and live to fight another day after licking his wounds. Stick to fairy tales. This show isn't for you.

    She was never good,. yeah they rushed it at the end but the whole time she did horrible things starting with burning the witch, and we overlooked it because she was the protagonist of her story, she was who we were supposed to side with.. but she killed, tourchered, and burned the whole time.

However if you look back, all the signs were there. When Dany killed, she killed cold. The ending was just fine IMHO. Great following your GOT journey. Peace out!

      Funny because as many of you that hate the last seasons I heard JUST as much complaining from "book fans" about the 1st seasons which is just another example of there just is no pleasing everyone, especially with something based off already established material. No matter what plenty of people would've been disappointed I personally would've liked the NK to win but I knew it wouldn't happen. But for those people who wanted that bs fairytale, Jon/Dany reigning or even Dany in peace with kids? Hell Nah never once thought that would happen and didn't want it, and while I can concede the shortened seasons were a bad idea the main "problem" people had was the Mad Dany thing I totally disagree with people saying it was character assassination they literally told us for 7 seasons it was going to happen I'm only surprised it took till the penultimate episode to happen. Since season 2 she either committed, threatened to commit, or ordered then was talked out of terrible acts by her close advisors/loved ones (Jorah, Selmy, Tyrion, Jon) and they were all dead or out of her favor at this time and her other 2 *friends* Greyworm always will decide to kill if it's on the table and Missandei last words were burn it down... they couldn't have told us any clearer what will happen drogon over KL burning to burn it down was shown MULTIPLE times in Bran's visions becoming the 3-Eyed-Raven. Of the multiple people I discussed the show with over the years, we all had very different wants for the show and if any of us got our wish then plenty of others STILL would've had problems with it, if they got their wish then we and plenty others would've had our problems with it. I think an extra component of the hate is that it was so great for a long time I mean even at it's worse people's other favorite shows didn't even compare to it from top down. Acting, directing, cinematography, etc they don't even put the same expectations on it it's not expected to be this massively complex and nuanced art with absolutely no flaws at all or disappoint us in any way.

    Obviously they wanted to make the most unexpected ending to this story they should have made an interesting and shocking UNEXPECTED ending rather then a safe UNEXPECTED ending. One thing you learn while watching GOT is that no body is safe. Cersei should have won and everyone should have died. That would have been the firework ending.

    GOT fans were too focused on fulfilling their own personal desires when it came to the ending of the characters. The way people were writing off the entire show based on one season is ridiculous. This is what happened and it is what it is. The show is still one of the best if not the very best ever. Things aren't always going to go the way you want. People crave fan service too much and love fairytale endings. Don't get it twisted though, the last 3 seasons were definitely on a downward spiral; especially the writing. Alot more noticeable in season 7 and 8 for sure. The show is still great OBJECTIVELY.

    Dear HBO I want the 8 years of my life back after watching this. I love the book series and I feel this was not it. at all. Sure there was some good moments up till season 5 and it started to go downhill. There was some pretty great moments in season 6 but then after that it just kept going down and down. I've had a few years to think about it and let it digest since it ended. I watched the whole series again during lockdown of 2020 and yeah I still feel the same. I'm glad I got to enjoy the journey but the journey didn't end well so it makes the rest of the journey before it feel meaningless. This is the definition of wasting your time. IMHO. I won't judge anyone else for liking it but that's just how I feel. I'm glad people enjoy it and I'm glad to see other people watching it. because saying that this is a bad show is a big fat lie. There is a big difference between having an awful ending and having an awful show. And sadly the book series is probably never going to get finished either so we'll probably never get a definitive adaptation. Neither will House of the dragon just enjoy it while it's here. I still have a bunch of other great books that George has written to read. I just won't get any future ones or I just won't get it for a really long time. Hopefully that's the case.

      Hahaha! This was an amazing series with an amazing ending. There is plenty of meaning in the final season, just not the sort of 'meaning' you want. GOT stayed GOT to the bitter end and refused to pander. I suggest asking yourself what the themes of the show are and how they were depicted in the show before dismissing it.
