Hi, Roy! Welcome aboard, glad to have you 😃 Coming off the bike every now and then is all part of the game, as I'm sure you have experienced after 50 years! Just gotta be glad when we, and the bikes don't get injured 😊
Oh no! I dropped my bike this last Thursday (end of May). When I stopped in a car park at Castle Hill village, the front wheel ended on a stone on a piece of wood and skidded out. Luckily two guys helped me pick Angel up. When you came closer to Whites bay, I thought surely you will stop, but you went pass! Its a beautiful bay. Sandflies are worse on the Westcoast the more you go down South. Get some off sandfly spray, it helps. We lived in Blenheim. Loved it there. Lake Rotoiti is my favourite place at St Arnaud. Safe travels.
Thanks for another genteel episode😊. Some beautiful scenery. Nice to see you could catch up with someone you know. Do you not travel with bug repellant? I get nasty welts from bug bites, especially itchy ones, so I carry bug spray on my travels. Cheers
Thank you! 😃 I did not bring bug repellant, but I sure quickly bought some after my first meetings with the sand flies 😂 I thought mosquitoes and biting midges (knott) were bad, but the itch from these bites were next level! Tea three oil and eucalyptus oils seemed popular in NZ, both to prevent bites and soothe the itch. Worked pretty well!
Riding through beautiful NZ with Runa, it just gets better every video. "Pretty freaking loose" and Oopsie, glad there was no harm done Runa.😲 Was a perfect corner to do some slow speed power sliding though. Just need a wee bit more practice on that type of loose gravel on a hard surface and you'll be sweet Runa. Looking forward to the next episode. Great Drone footage again, thanks for taking us along again.🤩🤩🦘🦘
Oh just wait for it, it's gonna keep getting better for a while! South Island was epic! 😍 I do have to practice my power slides, I know for sure I would enjoy it more if I had more control of the bike! 😊
@@OffSheGoesADV Hi Runa, after 50yrs of riding dirt & road bikes, I have so much knowledge I wish I could just transfer to you in an instant (mind meld ?🤣), but what I have seen in your journeys is that you have become a much more confident and skilful rider. I take my hat off to you and your adventurous charming spirit. Those adventure type tyres are of course a compromise between dirt riding and road riding and don't have the same bite of pure knobby tyres on that surface, as you know. Those soft gravel berms on the outside of corners can either be a trap or great fun, depends on your experience Runa. So keep on learning, one day you will cruise around those "Pretty Freaking Loose" gravel corners, foot down, little bit of power on, little bit of counter steer, without even thinking. 😍🤩👍 🦘🦘
The pond where you camped in St Arnaud is the skating rink in the winter, you can rent skates by the gas station. A shame you didn't go down to the big lake & look at the eels beside the jetty.
I did go down to the lake, as I hoped to camp at some of the campings there but it was all full! Didn't capture any footage from the spot, but the lake was stunning, lot's of people out by the water 😊
It was so great to meet up with you Runa. Thank you for taking time from your day to sit and chat. Interesting place you camped at Teetotal campsite. During winter the square of water that you could quickly see when you zoomed in actually freezes over and you are able to ice skate on it. About the only place in the upper South Island you could do that. Looking forward to your continuing adventure.
Thank you and likewise, Glenn! 😊 Hope to see you again sometime. That's cool to have an ice skating place like that. Does most places not get col enough for the water to freeze over thick enough for ice skating?

I did this in 2015 with my wife on the back and the luggage, the forgotten highway was a bit hairy 2 up on a BMW 1200gs apart from that the roads and scenery was made for motorbikes

Hi, Henry! I am 175cm, and the boots probably add 2-3cm on top of that 😊 The seat height of the 501 is actually almost 5 inches taller than the Norden 901. With a taller fuel tank, and the luggage sitting taller, I don't think I would have had fun riding it on my travels. The Norden 901 has it's fuel tank so low, making it very nimble and easy to ride despite it's size, AND I can reach the ground with half a foot on each side 😊 I love it, trust it, and have gained a lot of confidence on this bike. It's also a lot more comfortable and gentle on the throttle than the 501 (I have tried it).
