Institutions make for a wealthy country, not natural resources.
Africa is one of the richest continents in terms of natural resources, but there is a lack of institutions and order - and where there is, there is mass growth. Some African countries have grown in wealth faster than European countries lately.

Nevertheless, kudos to @Voltaire's Ghost for actually having the guts to take him on. The way "debate" works these days he could easily get hate from Hitchens-fans.

Maybe give them 1-5 years worth of minimum wage salary in a lump sum, along with a one-way plane ticket to a West African nation willing to take them, but they automatically renounce their US citizenship and are never eligible for American citizenship again.
Any applicants must submit to a genealogy test if requested and if found to have any of the following:
      - A known slave owner as an ancestor.
      - Less than say... 75% West African DNA.
      - No ancestors living in the USA further than 2 generations prior (e.g. if you're not at least a 3rd generation American)
Then those applicants are automatically disqualified.
Any descendants they have are eligible to apply for citizenship though- it has to be fair- but they personally are disqualified for life.
I'm not American, but it would be interesting to see how many would take the offer. You could probably count the amount on a shark's fingers.

As a Black American, this issue bedevils me as others cannot see how this will actually lead to more racial tensions, not less. Similar to the proposed program in Oakland California where poor "people of color", a term I detest (also "Colored People"=Bad, "People of Color"=Good🤔?), may received guaranteed income from the city whereas poor "non People of Color", also known as White People and Asians (depending on whether or not there is a political advantage to be gained by Leftist Activist this week), are to be left out. Now, seriously, who thinks that a program like that is going to "heal racial injustices" within that community? I guarantee that when the poor White or Asian family is struggling to put food on the table, gas in the car, and buy presents for their kid's birthday, the fact that their Black neighbors are receiving $1500 per month is going to create envy and anger not happiness and unity. And I've not even addressed how damaging to the Black American psyche this and many other thought processes are.

Like every other terrible idea in current year reparations will have a sequel. Reparations 2. This is because it is not something that can be given over once and then we all move on. Even living in a low average IQ/high violent crime country (the two usually go hand in hand) can give one a different and perhaps more accurate perspective on things. South Africa is a case in point: very few people who live in relatively safe countries understand that passive (a low contribution to the violent crime and predatory aggression statistics), high average IQ groups shy away from seemingly violent by nature groups with a low average IQ because of survival; if they don't remove themselves from the violence, they get wiped out: the thousands upon thousands of white crosses (the tip of the iceberg) are testament to the fact. Those who live in relatively safe countries with homogeneous cultures are more likely to call the need for separation in the "rainbow nation," racism! You have to live in a house to know where the leaks are.

I suppose the argument would be that it's the US as a country that still benefits, therefore it's the US making the repayments, not individuals. The impracticality of this given that government is funded by taxation is another reason why it's not feasible to pay reparations. But if the government could pay with some historic funds that weren't raised by taxation... maybe. Even then it would create huge division with some saying too much and others saying not enough.

““If you were to give reparations to everyone whose ancestors had been slaves, I suspect that you would have to give reparations to more than half the entire population of the globe. Slavery was not confined to one set of races.”
    -Thomas Sowell
If you control the language you control the mind’ was an important theme explored by British writer George Orwell in his iconic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.
As US analyst Jem Berkes explains, “Demonstrating the repeated abuse of language by the government and by the media in his novel, Orwell shows how language can be used politically to deceive and manipulate people, leading to a society in which the people unquestioningly obey their government and mindlessly accept all propaganda as reality…
“Orwell’s novel paints a nightmarish picture of a totalitarian system gone to the absolute extreme, but it is a novel that is fundamentally about psychological control of the public… psychological tactics (manipulation of people through language) can be continuously applied to the general public without raising great public opposition or fear - and that is where its strength lies.”
Without a doubt, language is now being used by the cultural Marxist left in the United States (the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand) as an instrument of political control to shape reality, conceal the truth, and manipulate history.
It’s why language is at the heart of the plan for the Chinese CP compromised white left’s campaign for ethno-Socialist Black/indigenous supremacy - as with the analogy of two dogs herding a mob of 500 sheep, it only takes a tiny minority, just a couple of noisy, aggressive, snarling canine bully sheepdogs, rolling in heavy with bluff and intimidation, to shepherd the entire flock of sheep into any pen they so desire.

I don't see how they were robbed, would they rather have their descendants in Africa today? I agree fully with the "we did them a favour"-argument. They were slaves already back home, they were just brought to a richer place. Can't be bad conscience on my part since I'm not even american.

Would you rather live free in your own poor country or be brutally kidnapped and used as slave labour in a richer country so your offspring might one day be citizens of that country ?

@@snowflakemelter1172 that's also a good point, I think the original commenter was basing it on the fact that these people who were sold to the sailors from the west were already slaves. They were taken as slaves by Africans, abolition of slavery is a freak event, everyone has always conquered and always taken slaves. But yes I would prefer even enslaved to stay on my own continent.

@@alexanderfox-robinson4910 I would think once the news got round that Europeans were buying slaves on a huge scale it motivated other blacks to enslave more and more of their countrymen for profit. That doesn't absolve them of blame though.

I've just found this channel after multiple shoutouts from the Lotus Eaters. I'm astounded you don't have more subscribers and predict that this will not be the case for long.

People all over the world had no conception of safeguarding historical monuments and archaeological sites. they basically shat all over them. English archaeologists came along and in many cases undertook restoration work in the absence of anyone else who gave a flying toss about the ancient past. The Elgin Marbles were not 'stolen', they were taken into safeguarding at the British Museum to stop them being carted away to prop up some local man's barns. Now perhaps the conditions may be right for returning them to a Greek government which finally appreciates its archaeology, however there should be a bill for storage and transportation in return.
