  • In this episode of Urban Exploring Minnesota, we'll be exploring the well-known Triple Helix storm drain. Almost a century old, this sewer is now used for the drainage of storm-water, but long ago, it drained much of the city's suburban area sewage. Follow Isaiah and Grant as they venture to the depths of this incredible structure.

    What an absolutely Badass place to explore and hang out in. We have something very similar where I live except right in the middle of the main tunnel where it splits into 2 other tunnels, leads to a big open room that has areas to sit in. My friends and I have contributed to the epic looking graffiti and when we have the room all set up with candles, a stereo system, a grill to cook food and all of our other lighting, you’d think you walked into a cults den or a supervillains lair. What’s crazy is that no one has been down there since the last time my friends and I were. It would appear that the local people where I live are too busy playing video games, playing on their phones, watching Netflix, and Bullshiting on their computers to get up off there ass and go outside. So the underground tunnel system remains untouched until the next time we decide to go down and hangout.

    A little strange that you would enter a storm water drain when it has water running down. Light rain was reported on October 26th, 2018. I suppose it is more interesting to see it functioning.

    • @theworldofyesterday4151
      @theworldofyesterday4151  3 года назад +1

      It was a light rain earlier in the day, but by the time we got there it was clearing up. It was a risk for sure, but one we were willing to take. Otherwise we wouldn't have entered. Good catch.

    I was on the river nearing downtown st. paul yesterday. I passed a drain outlet that was massive and it was pouring out fast-moving, COOL, subterranean-cooled air. A companion mentioned an underground helix system, and I believe it may be connected to this drain. Do you have any idea if this drain terminates at the Mississippi heading downstream a bit before harriet island? I could see graffiti inside of it from my Kayak's vantage point, but it seemed like folks wouldn't be entering it from the river. Anyway, I'm too old/scared to do this myself, but I was just curious if i stumbled on the drain yesterday while on the river.

    Always wish I had drains like this in my home town. Biggest we had was maybe four feet tall. No crazy structures, just a small tunnel running under a parking lot. Didn't stop us from adventuring down there though, made it maybe a quarter mile before the mud/water got too deep to continue (weird now that I think about it, since we were entering through the outfall). Great video, love to see more drains.

Water mains breaking are the worst thing that can happen the water resulting from it would reach the cieling and move at a inescapable speed. Always keep an eye out for manholes that go up or exits in case of one those happening.

    • @theworldofyesterday4151
      @theworldofyesterday4151  2 года назад +1

      We're unsure of what the purpose of the chains are, but dropshafts are large vertical holes where other sewers that are generally higher up in the tunnel network spill their water into, where it then will eventually join the primary flow of water out of the main tunnel.
