    I have always appreciated Jim DeCola’s style and ease of presentation. His depth of knowledge is most impressive but he doesn’t bury you with minutiae. I will always see him as the voice and face of Gibson Luthiery.

Going in depth on the both classic and locking style of tuners, this is the best reference if seen! Thanks Gibson TV.

      On my floyd rose equipped guitars I do one string at a time. Easy as a hard tail. If you do all at the same time. Put something like business cards or playing cards under the back of the floyd rose on top of the guitar and you can change them all at the same time.

    • @guitargeek2891
      @guitargeek2891 3 года назад

      Simple - unlock the nut for two adjacent strings then loosen one string and change one at a time. Tip: install the string backwards leaving the ball end at the tuner, leave about an inch or so past where you insert the end of the string at the bridge and cut. Install the end into the bridge then tighten. Stretch and tune the string until it stays in tune. Replace two strings and lock the nut down for those two at the headstock. Repeat for the other two pairs.

  • @MaliziaG
    @MaliziaG 4 года назад +5

    Now last step, if you want to keep your Gibson in tune you're gonna have to change the nut. 'Cause we did a lot of research to save money on our materials and keep selling our guitars for the same prices. Full success with the Graph tech ! Great video by the way..!

    I leave at least 1-2 winds on some of my locking tuner guitars in case I want to down tune. But I’m to the point now where I’ve got about enough guitars for just about all the different tunings. But if you don’t, keep this in mind. I also equip my Gibson’s with Gibson USA TP-6 tailpieces. Tuning stability just seems better too me. And I’ve got a lot of Floyd guitars, so I’m used to reaching for the bridge for any adjustments if necessary. My TP-6’s are also locking. So they don’t fall off when not under string tension. I usually get locking bridges too. And I use Tw25b military gun grease on the saddles and nut. Comes in a needle tip syringe applicator. That along with elixir strings keeps any binding at bay. My Gibson hardtails hold tune almost as well as my locking nut shredder guitars. 👊🏻 Thanks for the video. Gibson’s are badass.

    Wow, if you're not careful you just might learn something. I never tucked the string under itself before to "lock it" in place when first putting it through the tuning machine. I believe I will do that from this point on. Thank You Gibson TV. I have invested in some Nickel Graph Tech 18:1 Locking tuners on my (white) Gibson L.P. Custom, along with Nickel bridge and tail piece as I eschew yellow Gold. I am also experimenting with some hotter P.A.F.'s and am debating exposed (white) bobbins but keeping open Nickel covers. I would like some Nickel pickups rings but cannot find any. Chrome would be alright ala John Sykes. Can you (Gibson), or anyone refer or recommend anyone that makes Metal (Nickel, Aluminum, Chrome) pickup rings for a L.P. Custom ? All I can find are Plastic Chrome Rings from China and no. Will not soil the sanctity of my Gibson American Guitar to such a fate. Thank You Gibson and anyone else that can be of help. Happy Trails- ( Had to Edit due to possessed Mac Spellcheck).

    Did this this AM when restrang with a wrap over on the bridge. Used the Z bend method (no locking method). Worked like a charm. Nice n neat cleaning up the sloppy mess I had before. Very easy.

    I was going to say that anybody who needs to learn how to restring and tune a guitar probably is not the type who should be looking at big money guitars like Gibson. But then I cast my memory back to 1986 and remembered that the first guitar I bought with my own money was a 1955 Gibson Southern Jumbo. It played so nice and was easier to play the chords I was learning, which is why I emptied my bank account to get it. Every other guitar I tried was harder to play. It sounded great too. I did not know how to even tune it. After six months I sold it and it was worse for wear. No damage, but it was not a nice sounding guitar after me having it. I killed its mojo, but I am sure somebody was able to bring it back to life. So getting a decent guitar as a beginner is worth doing once the player knows they are going to continue, but knowing how to look after the thing and keeping it playing and sounding good has to be priority -- even as much as learning the music.
    P.S. In an old book about my family a relative was talking about the Stradivarius they had. It was stolen in the USA on the way to NZ and Aussie. He was a well known player in England around 1900. He was convinced that violins played well over the years generally have good tone, i.e., improve with age. I wonder if there is something in it and if so, then that might also apply to guitars? Maybe, maybe not. Not sure yet (my default position on all questions that are new to me is agnostic).

    Clear, concise, well-explained, with multiple options and safety tips (for you and your guitar) covered off. Also good camera angles throughout. It's all appreciated. Thank you.

    I have a Les paul and I want to use .09-42 gauge strings on this guitar. It's relatively new...I've owned it 3 weeks. I've come across a problem that I don't know how to address or fix. The 9's cause my fretboard to be dead straight or even a little tiny bit underbowed. This is even with the truss rod completely loose. I didn't know Les Paul's come with 10's. I don't like 10's at standard tuning. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hey Gibson, any way we can get a USA-made Epiphone Crestwood Custom with a nitro finish? If not how about a USA-made Embassy bass or a semi-hollow EB bass to go along with the Thunderbird and SG bass? I’d take any of those in Inverness Green :)
