Steve, you read my mind on the lack of organized lesson playlists on RUclips. This is a great resource for beginners--even getting into differences between acoustic and electric, etc. Nice job.
Effective teaching -- simple, sequential approach; clear descriptions; repetition of concepts; explanation for understanding -- "why we do it this way".
Thank you. I'm starting from 0. I just bought an acoustic guitar. Don't even know how to hold it so thank you. I'll subscribe and follow your playlist. Thank you very much.
Thank you so much :) my guitar teacher never told me how to hold it correctly, so i’ve always had a lot of tension in my right arm. But this video fixed that ❤
I recently got a smaller guitar and I wasn't sure how to hold it. Your tips on pulling the guitar in, and swinging the neck out a little have been a great help. I have also removed everything from my right pocket, which has also been helpful on placement. Cheers .
Hey thanks so much for your comment! Glad to know the lesson was helpful. Did you know the Golden Ticket is now available? This once per year event is only available for Black Friday and you can still get it here guitarzoom.com/goldenticket/earlybird/promo

First, I am LOVING this playlist. You are very patient and it is great for beginners like me! So, I bought this acoustic guitar and it feels GIANT. I am 5'2". Will I get used to this? Is this normal? Should I have gotten a ukelele instead? I'm kidding, but I feel like I cannot hold this guitar all cool and casual like Steve.
Thanks for watching, Bethany! To answer your question, if you're just starting out with a guitar (or any instrument), until you get used to playing it, it's going to feel a little awkward. That being said, there might be a smaller acoustic model that feels more comfortable than the one you have now. Short scale acoustic guitars might be worth looking into as well, at least before you make the jump to ukulele. :-) But since you already have the guitar you have, give it a solid try, and you might discover that it feels less and less awkward after a while. But if it just won't work for you, there are options for smaller-bodied acoustics that might suit you better. Hope this helps! :-) Just wanted to give a heads-up, if you want to play new songs faster, write better songs, and sound more authentic and musical when you solo, make sure you check out Steve’s new Ultimate Song Bundle → www.guitarzoom.com/ultimatesongbundle/promo/ The Ultimate Song Bundle includes: ✅ Acoustic Guitar ✅ Chords Made Easy ✅ Strumming Made Easy ✅ Acoustic Picking Styles ✅ Song Secrets ✅ Songwriting Made Simple ✅ Blues Basics ✅ Slide Guitar ✅ Fretboard Mastery ✅ Ear Training 2.0 …all in one bundle for 95%-Off the regular price. thats what FUNDAMENTAL, so many people belittle this, and the result is, put weight on left hand, so that CANNOT dancing over the fretboard 😬 soo many thanks for this lesson😀
Every instrument is difficult though. Piano, drums may be easier to pick up but they're all difficult too. So guitar as a first instrument is still a good choice
this is 2023, i have had 3 tutors tha i payed for lessons to learn the guitar. i am 62 so i have issue as we do as we get older. my bitch is this ! 1 year of learning the guitar, still crappy at it, but that's fine with me. what annoys me is when you payed for proffessional lesson through music schools, so far 3 of them, not one has mentioned my errors in holding the guitar body, now become a habbit that i have to break from, hence watching your video. i have a issue with holding the neck with my thumb way to tight, the reason is that i end up with the neck getting pushed away from my body. today the tutor when i mentioned this to him he then maybe i was holding the body of the guitar wrong, hence the hand was creeping more and more over the neck and away from the sound hole. gee great that hew finally picked this up, only took 15 months to find it and the fact i had to point out the problem to the tutor. so many other issue i can see my self with bad habbits formed and bad training from tutors that have never, not one of them ever pointed out thease issues. wow i good have been a very differant player today and not still on the beginner stage with now bad habbits that i need to break out of. ps laast lesson was today and the last one there. looking for another tutor again. frustrated, you could say, all the money for tutors wasted to this point. well lets hope that the next one is far better. thankyou for confirming my bad habbit issues. now i need to take my self back to the very beggining baic to retrain myself.
Hi! Thanks for your comment and for sharing! Hope the lessons are helpful to solve some of the issues. Practice and consistency is the key! Keep up the good work and thanks again for commenting!
Hi. Sounds like you are building a lot of tension in your arm. It might hurt if you play for a long time but I think the issue is more about trying to play as relaxed as possible from the neck down to the shoulder, fore arm and hand. Hope this helps!
I play guitar for 30 years. I have my guitar on my leg and lay my right am on top and my right arm pushes the guitar body around so the guitar neck is always in movement. I couldn't fix it in 30 years. My left hand is always searching for the strings because the neck moves like a spoon in the soup because of my right arm pushing on the guitar body.

I am predominantly left handed but I bought a right handed acoustic guitar . .I am more comfortable playing it left handed ,,but since I have just started out,i was thinking if i should force myself to hold it right handed?
Honestly, that's up to you. The disadvantage is that when you play "left handed", you have less options to try out guitars and such when you go into a guitar store, BUT I think what's most important is what makes most sense in your brain and your hands. If you can, learn a couple of chords and try strumming them a bit, and try left handed and right handed and see what makes sense for you.
