A reissue of this video would be absolutely great. I've watched this when I first started being interested in synth and drum machine, about 10 years ago.
I love the dr-55 snare. I've had loads of these machines over the years - I used to buy "broken" ones for a tenner, fix them (for £1!) and sell them on for £50+...
the best thing about the 55 are the trigger outs. For some reason when it triggers arps on a mono synth it just sounds really good. It's a very limited machine but it has a unique sound that's tough to emulate.
Here's a tip- press the start and stop buttons together during a pattern and you'll get a "Blue Monday" style 16th roll. Used to use it all the time in 1981. Enjoy.
@Ori0n1975 Speak & Spell was actually a Korg KR-55 with the kick triggering an ARP 2600. They used a DR-55 live in concerts before working on the album.
@Desmaad I think it's the most sexiest drummachine ever made. It doesn't have the hard punch charakter of the 909 or round 808 sounds. But all the sounds fit each other like no other drummachine. Instant Ron Hardhy Chicago house! @pepemogt What kind of limiter did you use? I sounds really nice.

The sound of Speak and Spell! Love this little thing.

That's some brutal lo-fi sounds right there. I think I want one.
I had one :) with a bass mod to... remember to hold down start & stop together while a pattern is playing to get a fill-in effect on the fly ;)
WOAAAAAHHHHHH!!! this is wild!
@seanepxtein Si, esa caja se uso para todo el track de Last View From Slussen ;)
Now I'm in love !!
that intro is sick
I wrote what Nerdcastle later renamed 'N-N-Nineteen' using one of these.
The first pattern sounded like the one on the Human leagues, 'Don't you want me'. Great demo. thanks for sharing. LOL .
fantastic instrument!!
Killer intro
This machine was used on The Cure's PORNOGRAPHY album, especially on the song 100 years
I have one and I love it
0:37ish that's the NIN - Closer BD and SD, minus the heavy processing. Although I believe that was sampled from another source.
Nice! I have one of those but it quit working a long time ago. I need to fix it! ;-)
Ambition in the back of a black car.
Hey, nice beats. I have one of those too, but I was wondering if you could tell me what the "accent" knob does, I can't seem to figure it out...
It always has 8th notes in the background. Is it possible to sample that sound? It's like a mid-range kick with no attack whatsoever
@irony909 That's a really good deal, no, it's a great deal, where did you find that?
very cool~

THANX for uploading! My one is a bit updated. I can filter the Bass and Hihat! NIce TOY, hehe ;o)
La usan en la de last view to Slusen?? (no recuerdo como se escribe!! Disculpas x la ignorancia)
Hi there. Can the DR55 sync out drive a TR707?
is there also a digital program on the pc something like that ?
Every 35 Cent Micro DSP can produce such squirx.
Sounds like TR-808.
Also used extensively by The Sisters of Mercy
as was your mom
Might sound a silly question but can you tell me whats the font used on the intro title? Reminds me of an old Depeche Mode album font.
Thanks.
i had one in 1982
Recommend a better one for the price?
roland chip was a fine drummer
your intro music kicks so much ass
aa nu ma I yo me sentia frEgon con mi pienito de la aurrera!!
yeah rifa!
I may be wrong but is this the drum machine that New Order used on 'Everything's Gone Green' and 'Temptation'?
Yes :)
Lemme mod it! :P
it has MIDI o CV ?
No midi. Don't be silly.
Habia una version flash de este! O muy parecido... :)

rmx1

The snare sounds very convincing, but the rest, meh.
Very OVERPRICED machine
