I purchased this POS machine at Lowe's the first year it came out. I was told it had the latest technology and was a great machine. This has been the worst washing machine money can buy. I'd rather do my wash over a metal plate on top of a rock. It takes 1 hour 25 minutes for one normal load. If you do a heavy load it takes between 2 to 3 hours. The clothes do not look very clean and my neighbor across the street can actually hear the spin cycle. I am looking for a basic machine with a ringer.

We have both the washer and dryer...the dryer is great, no issues. The washer on the other hand, where do I begin? I have to place the clothes very carefully and do small loads or the machine just stops in the wash cycle. Use liquid detergents only because powders do not disolve. I have to cross my fingers when I wash towels or sweatshirts because the washer goes out of balance so easy. The washing time is incredibly long. Sometimes my clothes come out half dry, as if there was not enough water in the tub to get to all the clothes. We are Maytag people and have not been disappointed in the past. I hope they do better in the future. Mind you it is only my husband and I that use it. I wouldn't dare wash blankets or comforters in it, they go to the laundromat. So bottom line it appears to work for some and not others.

I acquired a used one of these for free, the owner seemingly happy to get rid of it due to its intermittent operation. Being a somewhat competent mechanic I took it off her hands. Not being very old it otherwise seemed to be in excellent condition. I replaced the common failure parts and it was back in working condition with all the codes satisfied. I did a couple loads and they seemed to be mostly clean with a couple suspicious items that were not. I decided to override the lid lock to see what was going on. These units are not only junk but pathetic. I'm sure the engineers make the lid lock secure for safety reasons and liability but the reality is it obscures the view of what is going on. The cloths simply never have the chance to be agitated. Some at the bottom do but I have to wonder about the abrasion since they mostly sit in one position in a very shallow pool of water. Yes, the machine uses almost half the water of my 30 y/o machine but water just is not that expensive. Clothes aren't cheap and some look to be suffering excessive agitation while others are floating on the top, barely wet if at all. Even manually adding several gallons of water in an experimental load did not help the lack of clothes circulation. It's going to the dump tomorrow. Fortunately I spent less than $100 for parts and lost 20 hours of my time. I feel for anyone that bought one of these new.

This is useful information. I bought mine at an estate sale and I'm finding out that I overpaid for this piece of crap. I will run my clothes through a wash and dry cycle, fold and put them away. When I go to grab a t-shirt maybe a week later, or a set of "clean" sheets, I get a whiff and everything stinks. Grrr. I've tried all the tricks - baking soda, vinegar, Oxy Clean...I hate this thing. 😡

I always run mine in the comforters/bedding setting which I believe defeats the sensing and the low fill issues. When I had a technician out to defeat the lid lock so I could see what was going on, he told me to always set it on fabric softener added even though I don't use fabric softener. There's a lot of misdirection in the controls; it saves water by deceiving you.

I have this same washer. I HATE it. The clothes do not clean properly, and sometimes towels and sheets have dry spots on them like they were never touched by soap and water. The cycle knob broke off and to get is repaired was going to cost almost as much as a new washer. I haven't noticed any significant decrease in water or power bills over the three years I have had this machine. I'm ready to go buy a new washer. I do NOT recommend this machine at all.

Have had it for a couple years and I curse it every week, (and my husband who bought it without checking with me or the reviews! ) It is so loud, literally sounds like a jet plane taking off, can't even hear tv in next room. It vibrates so roughly it is constantly moving around room. In 2 years it has brown down on us 3 times and now it is broken down to the point where the cost to repair is not worth it to us. Going to kick this to the curb (would not even try selling it to anyone) and put the money toward something better. I would love to have a Speed Queen!

NOT RECOMMENDED. I have had mine over a year. Nothing but trouble.. Stops washing for no reason then just sits there.. I have to unplug it and wait for it to reset then try again. If it does wash it wont spin the cloths . So I have to Unplug it again and then set it to rinse and spin manually . I have the glass top version but I don't think that matters.. Before anyone buys this washer Look up reviews.. Don't waste your money !

My fiance has this and hates the machine. It's brand new and she said the clothes still have detergent on them after a spin cycle. I told her to take it off 'normal' and out it on 'power wash' and put detergent at the bottom and she said it worked better. Do not overload it. She was used to her front load by LG and she got spoiled when she had to move and 'down grade,' and says she'll never get this model again.

also 6:11 since these machines use less water than traditional washers, pouring detergent on top of the clothes could lead to staining because the soap on top of the clothes may get permanently set if there is excessive heat in the tub

I took the time to read the quick start instructions and realized my fears were just part of getting used to a new machine. • @PAballoonists
    @PAballoonists 2 года назад +1

The problem with all of these washers is the lack of an agitator for several reasons. Yes you save a little bit of water. In our Township it is a penny per gallon. So if you need to save a maximum of $0.20 on each load of laundry then go for it. That is the reason why some people's clothes don't even get wet in places and these things just don't wash that well. As to the mechanical issues these machines have, compared to the old machines with an agitator there is no shaft that goes up inside the agitator and basically behaves like a diver in the diving bell. That means the water never Rises up inside the agitator and has a chance to get down into the bearings through a worn or failed seal. The newer washers that have this type of wash plate have water and soap getting into the shaft and splines of the agitator right around the shaft seal and eventually this water makes its way past the seal as things rust and corrosion builds. Remember too that we are using less water so that area doesn't get flushed out and cleaned as well. That water eventually leaks by the seal that becomes damaged by the corrosion and rust and gets into the ball bearings which starts to rust them. Hence the jet engine noise basically within months to a few years the transmission is being destroyed. The other problem that these machines suffer is they are suspended by four thin rods in the corners of the machine. At the bottom of each rod there is a device that functions similarly to a car shock absorber. That damping effect is created by a small round piece of foam with the shaft going through it and it is saturated with dsmping grease. As the clothes spin out, these pieces of foam keep the drum from bouncing around and the machine from walking across the floor. What happens is the foam sleeves are very short-lived and within a couple of years depending on how heavily you load the machine they wear out and provide no damping effect whatsoever. After that, even with light loads it will sound like you have a Tasmanian Devil Inside the washing machine cabinet. It will walk across the floor, bang into things and damage the plastic tub ring at the top of the outer tub. This machine had a number of design flaws that caused this to happen. First of all planned obsolescence, second of all first generation of anything there are faults that they need to work on. I have seen newer machines of the same basic design and the suspension Rod dampers last a lot longer. They are no longer using the foam rubber type of damping sleeve, now it looks a little bit more like the rubber used to make ear plugs. They still have the issue with water getting into the transmission and destroying the bearings unfortunately. I have to agree with some of the other reviews on here, get a Speed Queen! Been working on washers and dryers for years and this new stuff is basically crap.

Purely crap! I've had this joke for about three months and it sounds and acts like a jet engine, takes far too long, clothes are not washed or rinsed, have dry and dirty spots when they come out, It actually has torn my towels! The water level is not what it is supposed to be on any setting. The spin cycle is alarmingly fast and vibrates hard enough to be dangerous. Am very concerned for the copper plumbing it is tied into and vibrates as it spins. Horrible product. Am going to junk it and get another brand. Will not fool with warranty because I don't want this thing in my house.

I just bought one and I wish now I had read some reviews on this machine . I am going to take it back to Lowe's and buy something different . I will most certainly do some research on my next washing machine purchase . I am old school and thought I was buying a better machine because of the name Maytag . I thought how could I go wrong with a Maytag ? I did purchase the 3 year extended warranty though . ..........I just pulled out my first wash load and they look clean . My unit does have the taller center agitator . But that worn out sound while on washing cycle concerns me . From what I have read a really dirty big load may take two wash cycles for my liking . All this energy saving ,water saving stuff means after you wash it twice I will use more water and electricity than my old machine ...............Kinda like the water saving commodes that take 2-3 flushes .

Winner! Bought the newest model almost two weeks ago I researched it prior to purchasing, works great for me. Im guessing people are either ignoring the owners manual and directions. My clothes come out clean and fresh with out a glitch and ive noticed my colors dont bleed out or fade and the fabric on my new clothes stays looking newer score in my book. I could see how old schoolers would have a hard time with the concept of minimal water/High efficiency machines but get with it. I use the two rinse cycle feature just for piece of mind but its really not necessary and a lot easier on the wallet know what I mean.

Our repairman actually went to somewhere that recycles them and says that front-loaders in particular cost $600 each to recycle. He didn't mention a non front-loader, but I think he said pretty much all of them these days are expensive to recycle. So we may save a little bit of water, but we have to buy one every 7 years instead of every 20+ years and that just means more to fill up the land-fills. Ridiculous. The computer things are so easily fried by power surges or moisture.

Bought this machine about a month ago. Sad to say,I'm not impressed. Can only wash smaller loads and balancing the load is a real problem. Ive had to re balance a load several times just to get it finished . Finally called and a tech came to the house to check out the unit. I have a receipt which shows I received "customer education on loading ". Kinda silly. Never had a washer where you had to go to school just to get your laundry done. Washer is too sensitive.
Since then the washer has not been a real problem, but it requires care in loading ,which is irritating . Wash cycles way too long also. Don't think i will buy Maytag/Whirlpool again.

This washing machine is a piece of crap, we have had it for only 2 years. Just like clockwork we started to have trouble after the warranty ran out. The lid locking assembly died, had that replaced $150.00, then shortly after that the Shift Actuator went out $175.00. Now the main control board has gone bad, and the part alone is close to the $300.00 plus installation, the estimate was $450.00 to replace it. Thats $775.00....More then what we paid for this POS.
When the washer is running, it has an irritating washing cycle noise that may have been used during the cold wars to torture spies when captured. You also have to clean this washer otherwise a funky smell can develop, what rocket scientist came up with that idea? Sometimes we have to wash clothes twice to get them clean, so much for saving water. And if the clothes get out of balance during the spin and drain cycle, you open the washer only to find sopping wet clothes. We use the HE detergent, followed the instructions and are less then impressed with it. I would not recommend this washer to anyone and would suggest you choose another one. We are looking for another one now and will just donate this or dump it in the trash where it belongs.

Man I don't know if y'all are putting to much in or what but what the heck? I've had this washing machine almost 8 years, use it every single day because I have pets that pee on blankets. Never had a single issue besides unbalanced load and that's more my issue with loading, not the washer! None of my clothes have EVER smelled or been unclean coming out of the washer! And I use a single 4 in 1 Tide Pod for every load. No need to measure! Nearly always use the bulky/sheets load option because blankets. Just keep the middle part clear at the bottom because that's how it senses load size. Unlike other washers never had damaged clothing from the agitator either which was great!

This washer is a piece of crap. I have had it for a little over two years. As soon as the warranty was up it started making a metal on metal noise like a bad nearing during the spin cycle. Nothing was leaking and was washing clothes so I let it go and just closed the door. I noticed after that, the clothes were not getting as clean as the should and the soap packets I use were not dissolving completely. I listened more during the wash cycle and could not hear water splashing back and forth although the machine sounded like it was washing. I found the wash plate that agitates the clothes was free spinning. This plastic piece was splined and should not turn on its own. I am mechanically inclined and can see that these plastic splines would not hold up very well under much pressure. I looked up the parts and found there was a change to an improved wash plate ond ordered it. The new piece was $80.00 and I replaced it myself (very easy). But one month later it was stripped out again, I replaced it again thinking maybe someone overloaded the washer, because that is what Maytag claims causes this. Wrong! I washed very light loads. I will never buy another Maytag appliance.

I have owned one of these for 2 years and 5 months. It is a piece of JUNK!! It doesn't fill the machine with water--to cover the clothes---but worse than that, when the led light goes to RINSE, the machine will not agitate. Then the light goes to SPIN, but it will not spin!! I called my appliance repair man and he said it's the ' Controller ' which cost about
$ 250.00--not counting labor! ( I didn't buy a extended warranty, because I thought I wouldn't need it. After all, this was a Maytag. Bad Mistake! ) In short, I'm stuck with a less than 2 1/2 year old washer which cost me $ 459.00. And It's now JUNK!! Don't buy one!! When I called Maytag/Whirlpool last week, the lady tried to sell me another one!!!
I bought a GE ( with a agitator) and it works GREAT!!!!

i bought one in 2015 and still have it and use it 5 years later, the biggest issue is the wash plate shaft gets rusty and over time strips the hub and wash plate, then the transmission gear case shaft isn't sold separately , doing a little bit of research you can still find these parts, these HE washing machines are good when they work but they are like the high maintenance version like Mercedez-Benz types.

A few years ago we bought a Whirlpool Cabrio HE style washer. The salesman just raved about how great these washers were. It operated on the same principle as you described here. We had it about two years, I know it was no longer under warranty. Then it quit working and the display was showing an error code that indicated that the control circuit board was bad. I looked them up on the online parts store websites and was shocked to find out that the replacement circuit boards cost almost $400. According to internet reviews, these failures were so common that Whirlpool fixed some of these machines at no cost, but after they were flooded with reports of failures they quit paying for the repairs. I decided not to fix that piece of junk. Then we bought a new Maytag washer with an agitator at Lowes. That one is around two years old and it no longer works. So much for Maytag quality. I think Maytag used to be a good reliable brand when Maytag was still building their machines. I think Whirlpool is building them now and they are junk. I invested in a good appliance repair book.

The absolute worst washer we have ever owned. Almost every load we have to adjust the clothes because it seems like it's always out of balance. The locking lid is a pain because you have to press the pause button, if you don't hold it long enough it won't open hold it too long and it starts all over again at the beginning. This is the second Maytag washer we've owned and definitely the last as I'd sooner beat my clothes on a rock beside a river before I'd ever buy another Maytag washer. It still runs and washes clothes but it's going to the scrap yard because I would rather throw it away before I'd put someone else through the aggravation the washer puts you through.

We purchased our washer/dryer both Maytag at an outlet store about 3 months ago. Fortunately, I didn't read this prior to purchasing. Our experience has been just fine: great price, cleaner clothes, less water use and a fabulous wrinkle-free cycle that works great. I only hang up the clothes while damp and no ironing needed - a first for me. The whole thing has been a learning experience for me...it is definitely different than previous washers I have used. YOU MUST USE THE HE SOAPS, PLACE THE SOAP IN PRIOR TO LOADING, CIRCLE THE WASH LOAD AROUND THE CENTER OF THE WASHER. You will then experience a perfectly clean wash, well drained and ready for the dryer. Trying new things does involve an open mind and time to experiment...

We’ve had this machine for a couple of years now. I don’t have any complaints except that it’s noisy when determining the sensing cycle. Like most users, I don’t like the amount of water it produces, but I guess that’s common with all HE machines. It’s almost impossible to get a good lather (like old machines). I don’t know if these HE machines clean as well as the old ones. Some things are better left alone.

I wish I'd read Hannah's post before I bought. Got it on clearance at Home Depot yesterday for less than $400 after tax. We had an old, simple Whirlpool that lasted 17 years and were sad when it died. We were looking for something just as simple to replace it, and the Centennial was the simplest looking. Only done 2 loads, and I hate it. My office is next to the laundry room, and the "normal" noise is worse than the death throws of the Maytag. Since it was clearance, no returns. We are already planning on how to give it to our daughter when she gets her first apartment next year at college.

My washer makes, all kinds of noices, and now the machine no longer spins. The tech from Sears who are experts in Maytag washers told me that an agitator for this machine costs $80.00 + service + labor which will be $246.00. Best advice given by the tech - BUY A NEW MACHINE OR DO YOUR LAUNDRY AT THE LOCAL LAUNDRY FACILITY. My last washer machine was a KENMORE and lasted 33 years. Good Luck with yours!

Absolutely the worst washing machine I have ever owned. As previous Maytag owners for many years my husband thought it would be a good choice. I do the laundry and I hate it! The whites are dingy and the dark clothes usually have soap spots. I have tried every cycle on the machine with no improvement. I canceled the cycle during the wash and opened the machine to see the water level and it was ridiculously low. I thought I would outsmart it by adding more water manually and it just went into rinse and emptied the water I added. As soon as I can replace it it's gone! I do not recommend buying this washer. I expected much more from Maytag since my last Maytag lasted 20 years.

I dislike this washer for one simple reason: there is no quick cycle. As a chronic procrastinator, I often find myself needing to wash something at the eleventh hour. Other machines I've owned always had a fast option- 30 min or less. Not this one. 45 minutes minimum. No matter what cycle I use. Forget it, it's not going to be done in less than 45 minutes. 🙁

Over the years it did it more and more now where it does it every load. I replaced the shifter assy and main circuit board per diagnostics and its still doing it, and now the bearing for the tub is roaring loud like a jet engine, we have owned this machine for 6 years, 5 years of it having issues. I have owned this machine for 2 years. I regret the day I made this purchase, so much that I have purposely sought out a site to write a review on. I absolutely hate this machine. It has ripped the hem out of several pants, torn shirts, and destroyed wash clothes. This has happened on the delicate cycle. In addition, it does NOT rinse all the soap out and all of the clothes do not get wet. Some things are partially washed and other items still have soap. It is horrible. When I wash my queen size comforter, it is partially washed with some parts being wet some parts clean some parts with soap and some parts that weren't touched at all still dirty. I will be replacing this washer soon with an old school type. You shouldn't have to wash things multiple times to get them clean and have to worry about clothes being torn up!

I assume mine is several years old. I bought mine for $50 from facebook marketplace when my ancient Maytag finally completely died. I prefer the old school maytag washers, but needed something fasts, and affordable. I havent had any problems with this machine. it's totally fine.

Everyone, just load the clothing around the impeller. Do not ever cover up the center. It will work just fine this way. Many people have issues with this machine because they don't know how to use it. I bought one that is 9 years old recently and replaced two parts costing me less than $100 and it works great.

Someone gave me this machine for just taking it away from his house. I replaced the actuator and it worked for a week before it started to sound like a load drum and then it just stopped working. The shock springs at out local appliance store and it has never worked again. It's too big for a paperweight !

My aunt has one with the agitator, it broke too many times, especially with the fake agitator, and it just finally died today as of March 12th, 2020

Thank you...for this video. I hated this machine bc im at someone elses house and didnt know patience was required for it to start. Pushed the washer 'Start' button same time she did in the video, waited, watched, and succeded. Thanksbagain.

This washing machine is hard on clothes. Everything comes out intensely wrinkled, enough that they dont come out in the dryer! Have to wash on the gentle cycle only. Can't wait to replace it.

So disappointed in Maytag - I have a 2013 Bravos washing machine that if I had it repaired again (less than a year after I had it repaired the first time and just over two years since we brought it home) the cost is going to two times the purchase price. And because it is just out of warranty Maytag is doing nothing about it, even though they know there is a flaw in there design.

Just purchased a 2015 model at Sears. Paid $275 for it new. Sticker was originally $499. We have a cycle called power wash that is not explained in the under lid or the book!! But is seems to fill the basket up to the top with water. Between that, the extra rince, and keeping the soil level set to high, our clothes are coming out clean. Of course i have yet to know about durability. I have my 2000 performa stored in the basement. That was a workhorse, and if this gives me troubles, i will restore it, and replace the $150 transmission and seals. Should get another 15 years out of that one. I cannot believe the underside of my Centennial. There is hardly nothing under there but a very small motor. My 2000 performa has a motor the size of a gallon of milk. This things' motor is the size of a pint of milk, and no transmission.

What ive learned to do with these HE, washers is stopped the washer and add water with a bucket. Otherwise i would have some clothes with dry spots. I hate these new washers.

This is the worst washing machine I have every had! We have had it a couple of years
and now it will not rinse or drain. You must do it manually. I thought Maytag was suppose to be so good. Boy was I wrong! So sorry I bought this! Do not get this washer!!!!!! You will be sorry! The bad reviews are true:

+Ann Satchfield If I ever get stuck to buying one of these HE washers, first thing I will do is use an arduino and design custom electronics for it. My washer is currently entering its sixteenth year and holding strong (knock on wood).

did you call Maytag repair? I'm asking because my washer just started doing this.. it's only 5 years old.

Have you run it through the diagnostics. There is a video here on RUclips that shows you how to do that and another that shows how to get it to give you the error codes to find out why it isn't going through the rinse or drain cycles.

You can call Maytag or you can run it through the diagnostics. You can save money if you are capable of checking the problem and getting replacement parts or if you have a friend that can do that for you. I can't believe how many people have something wrong with their washer and don't bother to check it out or call Maytag or an authorized service tech. to look at it.

I already did... it's a default in the machine. We junked it... and are using a different one...not a Maytag

I have had this washer for over 2.5 years. And I have noticed my clothes are not cleaning as well as before. I have changed my washing detergent, to see if it was that. But its not. What do u suggest?? I went fro. Gain to Tide..l even start using Oxy powder to help it out.

I have it & dislike it tremendously. It makes a racket, have to close door. It beats up clothing. It thins them including my sheets & towels.
I have a 2 gallon pitcher of water next to it. I dip one or two items in pitcher to increase weight that machine senses. If you try to pour added water as filling, it purges it once locked. I place saturated pieces on top of dry ones on bottom & they absorb water. Best I can do but still too rough on ALL settings. Jeanne
