As I've said before thanks for sharing the downs as well as the ups. You still made it without too much drama. Hope the repair goes well. Bob, South Wales UK
James, you handled that extremely well. This is the exact reason I keep watching - you hold yourself high when it would be so easy to get pissy about it. There'll always be haters, but I commend you. Keep up the great work.
I like how you stayed so calm and kept filming, even though I'm sure you were freaking out, you didn't let it get to you. that's awesome that it didn't cost for the tow.
Hey James.. sorry it worked out this way. BUT, as always though, you are positive and you know that things will work out in the end. 😊I've been following your channel for several months and I always enjoy your content. I have never been a super/exotic car fan at all but your presentation and enthusiasm has drawn me in...keep the videos coming. Love your content! I'm also very exited for your Jeep content and mods!
My comment was based on what Stradman said in a previous video. He said his channel was nothing until he bought the lambo because it made him relevant and not "forgettable". So, get a clue before you open your big mouth keyboard warrior.
Squidward's The clutch shouldn't go out anyways after only 30k miles he's got on the car, the only way the clutch could go out is if ur burning the clutch out by having the clutch in an giving it gas aka bc he doesn't know how to properly drive a manual😂
miskavaa, I'd bet my pay check it's a leak in the master/slave and he could have finished with a $4 bottle of brake/clutch fluid. nothing wrong with the clutch if it's not slipping.
LOL...I should've wrote "I'd crap myself if my '2008 ASPEN WHITE LOTUS EXIGE S240 WITH VINYL GRAY STRIPE AND STAGE 2 EXHAUST" broke down in the middle of nowhere :P
Had been hoping to have seen you gone down the drag strip in Spokane. That would have made for a very long tow! Sorry your rally came to an early end but glad it wasnt even shorter! Again, so awesome to have met you and gotten a selfie with you in front of the lambo! Such a genuine and nice guy.
Just something to try if you ever find yourself in the same predicament, try turning the car off while rolling, remove from gear, put in higher gear, turn key on and viola! no clutch needed and the car with fire right back up with out engaging the starter. I used this a lot in my Audi TT when I had issues with limp mode and 2nd gear went out.
Steadman I think the ski box gives ur baby character sorry bout ur clutch I've always wanted to go on a gold rush rally but I became terminally I'll 2 yrs ago and fighting for my life luv ur channel god be with you always
The reason I love this channel is not because of the car - I couldn't care less about cars. I love this channel because James is doing what he wants when he wants - he has more freedom than 99% of us. As I am working my shit job, I watch his channel on my down time - it inspires me to not give up on my dreams. I would watch this channel regardless of his car. His adventure is far more entertaining. Thanks James!!
I feel your pain brother. I have a g37 and the ac compressor just went out today. All my tools are back in Omaha NE so I'm paying 1600 dollars for someone here in Kansas to fix it.
Good luck with the clutch man. Hope it's only a fluid leak, but either way, cool that you're going on the rest of the rally. And good on you for tipping the tow truck driver! That kind of stuff is why I watch every video you post.
Still loving the Wrap! It just makes the wheels pop. Was cringing every time you changed gear then! Think it was wise to call it a day and not risk further damage!
I was wondering why I didn't see your car rolling out of that hotel in Park City on another channels video. Dude I hope the repair doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Good luck James!!! Keep you head held high
Good thing ya got it back home at minimum cost. Just have to adapt schedule until it gets fixed. Kind of sad situation, but temporary setback. You'll get a even cooler car to put miles on hopfully for us to ride along.
Strad, I would like to comment that I like your attitude when stuff went south. As an old car guy, we just have to accept that our babies break from time to time and we just need to roll with it and deal with it. My only suggestion that would have helped you here is to learn how to shift without the clutch, leaving it engaged all the time. It is a trick that saved me many times from having to get a tow. It involves timing the throttle blips and rev matching. Properly done it is not hard on your transmission at all. Thank you for all your videos, I enjoy them.
It's nice to know that life isn't always perfect. I'm sure it's the least enjoyable to share these moments when you are most vulnerable but thanks for keeping it real.
Any manual transmission with synchros you can shift without using the clutch. All you have to do is match up the revs of the engine and transmission and it will glide in. The only problem you would of faced was go from a dead stop.
35,000 miles before the original clutch went out, not bad for a gallardo. Usually the E gear models burn theirs a lot faster. I guess if you are going to get a gallardo, get a manual if you can.
Feel your pain. Drove out to Birmingham AL for a national Lotus gathering from CO. Drive out was epic, the event was first class. However, car broke down and is now in a dealership in Atlanta. Need to have the car fixed and figure out how to get the car back to CO which is where I'm at now. Not the ending I was hoping for. The good and bad of Rallies.
Well that sucks. I've been stranded when the transmission of my Scirocco 16V literally blew up back in the days. I had it back within a week but since it was shortly after graduating, it cost an arm and a leg for me at the time. Hopefully you'll be able to work something out quickly.
You can shift without the clutch once you're moving. You'll wear the synchros a little but if you carefully rev match and limit the load on the synchros (like shifting from 2nd to 5th at low RPM) then the wear will be negligible. It's an option if you ever need to limp back to free-tow-range. You do have to use the clutch to get moving from a stop, though.
Bummer about the Lambo clutch. Glad you're still smiling on the outside, though it's obvious that you're upset. Who wouldn't be? Chin up.. You got this.
should have rev matched/heel toed your downshifts instead of just jamming in the gears and letting the rpms drop then go back up Lol that would have gave you a bit more clutch life
My heart was racing everything you shifted. lol, especially when you said you were going to tow the car, luckily its free. lemme drop my like before I go.
I think you could have double clutched, might have helped, once you shove it once and it doesn't go into gear, your engine rpms drop to idle while you are still moving around the same speed, so your input and output gears are spinning at different speeds. Fortunately you kept pushing it and the syncros evened out the speed of the gears until they could engage together. Causes some extra wear on the syncros but overall probably not a big deal just a few times. If you let the clutch up, reved up to the approximate engine speed you would be at in the gear you want to shift to (probably not that high because you're going 2->5) then clutch in and immediately move the shifter to the gear, if you matched speeds well hopefully it would go in smoother. I'm assuming you still had some disengagement when pushing the clutch in based on the video.
38000 miles is a clutch that lasted man! These things do happen, just at a very unfortunate time, but I hope you get that all sorted but for the mean time just have fun on the rest of gold rush!! Yew!
James you might want to consider autoclyb premier too. I have had it for over 25 years, and my friends love the fact I do. I also have the car insured through state farm, so I get that benefit too. Nice video....
Well, I broke the replay button for you Strad, you need all the money! Oh, and just slap some stickers on the Audi and finish it in the TT! I am amazed how you remained calm, even though you were freaked out you kept calm. I would have been really freaked out and sad.
sorry to hear about the lambo. been following since you bought it in Cali. inspiration... hope to find out when the next race, would love to enter some of thosd
Good luck with your car man. oh mine is also RHD. I bought it from a family member in England. It a super special car and ill never sell it although the values are shooting through the roof! take care.
Always great vids James. Keep up the great work. Would love to see you go with something aftermarket on the Lambo! Gotta do something to it before you do anything to the Jeep in my opinion!
You dont need a clutch to drive a manual. put in first and bump the key to roll it, then once rolling start using key. rev match using accelerator (like a truck) and you dont have to ever touch clutch rev match to put it in neutral as rolling slowly, and use brake to stop
Sounds like the pressure plate other than the clutch, the clutch is able to pull in second so seems pretty good but the Pedal situation sounds like your pressure plate, but personally I'd get the thrust baring and clutch changed too just to be safe
My clutch went out on a rally with my Triumph TR4A. Kind of sucked had to wait two days to FedEx a slave cylinder. I since installed a 5 speed transmission. I could not get my car out of 2nd gear. I know how you feel. I am guessing the repair will not be cheap.
Im pretty sure it's the clutch because when he got his oil changed they said his clutch was about to go out and it was his homies shop so they probably weren't lieing to him
Christopher is right. If the clutch was worn out, it would slip or chatter when the clutch pedal is UP, and he would not be able to get any torque to the wheels. But he can't DISENGAGE the clutch, so it's likely a hydraulic problem.
Busy few days and no time for YT, so I only see it now, sad it happened, now I have to see the last video should you sell the Lambo, curious to find out what's next. But I would certainly watch your videos even without supercar, you are what makes your channel great!
Hey at least the car looks good even when on a flatbed. Sorry to hear about the clutch, keep up the good vids, I'll make sure to keep my Adblock off now lol
I don't know if I agree on your assessment on how long a clutch lasts in a manual transmission car. There are people with m5s that have 250k plus on their original. Then there are people like me who rolled out of a corner on first attempting to melt some tires that were due to be changed and score the surface of the flywheel. I've hobbled mine for two years with slip in the high gears. I am currently waiting on a 3" t60 torx to finish the repair. I'm guessing yours is fluid / pressure related? Breaks and clutch use the same reservoir? I hope you get it sorted soon. Cars are so much more fun when they are used. I love yours. Love you drive the wheels off of it. Love the vids. That being said, I was informed by someone much more knowledgable than me that lugging a motor in high gear at low rpms is as hard as redline on your main bearings. My car will do 20-120 in 4th gear. Not advisable though. Rev matching should allow you to shift without the clutch. I need to practice that myself. One heck of a rally. Thanks for sharing.
Strad, get the OEM clutch. The latest revision (Type F, I believe), is very good. The highest mileage Gallardo (currently 138,000+ miles) did 100,000+ on his second clutch. Also 6MT, mind you. And the thing that went out, like on yours, was not the clutch but the slave. Sucks it happened while on the rally though...
James, don't worry. Things don't have to be one way or another. Get couple drinks, shake it off, and rise up the next day. There is only one direction that matters, I don't need to tell you which one.
I've driven standards when the clutch went out.. Synchronize the engine R P M with the tranny R P M and you don't need the clutch.. To downshift, increase the engine R P M to match with the tranny and to upshift, decrease the engine R P M to match with the tranny.....You have to have good ears to make it work...I've been in that spot many times...You do it for each shift change ...
Was it the clutch letting go at the end of it's life or the slave cylinder going with the pedal being as soft as mentioned? Seems really like how my Audi's gear pedals have behaved when slave cylinders needed bleeding or replacing. Hope the fix is not too painful either way and as you've mentioned it's wear and tear.
You are a good man James! Tipping the tow truck driver while facing large expenses is not easy.
I am sure he planned for it waay in advance and it's all just a tax write-off anyways. He isn't loosing much at all
How much are you supposed to tip a tow truck driver?
How much is a 2 1/2 hr ride worth? I'd give him a C-note.
Vasiliy S it was free
Well the tie was but he said it would only be 30-40 k
you're always so happy no matter what if something goes wrong you're positive that's why I like you you keep doing what you do bud I love you

Btw I hope you'll get your lambo fixed soon bro, keep it up!
Your voice and confidence has greatly changed over the years.

Trying my absolute best to not respond to some of these comments in this video dude. Sorry to hear about your car. Keep up the videos.
Spencer Berke I agree. What a bunch of disrespectful people.
Well said Spencer!! Keep the faith Stradman. You knew clutch was in the cards. Just bad timing it hit on the rally.
Spencer Berke What up brah!
Your 💩 BMW is next
that moment when spencer tries to be cooler than he actually is.
loved the video James. I kinda like when things go wrong in videos. just makes it feel more authentic

I'm glad to see you have a good spirit thru it all.....awesome, tell Clayton wassup....
The "Strad" shirts just went up to $29.95.
gotta fix the lambo tho lol
Indeed! No Lambo = No channel
lmfaoo
im pretty sure even without the lambo the channel is still great, youre just jealous thats pretty obviuous
My comment was based on what Stradman said in a previous video. He said his channel was nothing until he bought the lambo because it made him relevant and not "forgettable". So, get a clue before you open your big mouth keyboard warrior.
10:01 synchronized salute lol.
love the videos and the wrap on the lambo.
Shocking that the car went this far on the original clutch.
Squidward's The clutch shouldn't go out anyways after only 30k miles he's got on the car, the only way the clutch could go out is if ur burning the clutch out by having the clutch in an giving it gas aka bc he doesn't know how to properly drive a manual😂
It was closer to 40k miles, which isn't unusual. I've had some go out after 45k and I've had some that lasted over 100k.
Jeremy Howard ik but only 38k on the car that kinda means he's been running it rough and burning the clutch out.
Tyler Releford nope 38k miles is alot for a lambo clutch should have long been replaced
Tyler Releford you're talking about it as if it is a Camry. How long did you expect a freaking exotic car's clutch to last for?
Could also be only a master cylinder of the clutch. But propably worth swapping the whole package because of the amount of work you need to do.
miskavaa Slave cylinder.
miskavaa, I'd bet my pay check it's a leak in the master/slave and he could have finished with a $4 bottle of brake/clutch fluid. nothing wrong with the clutch if it's not slipping.
Jared Slattery I'm quite sure as well. Nothing too dramatic.
That SUCKS about the clutch - I'd crap myself if my Exige broke down in the middle of nowhere.
GrahamStephan You just wanted to make clear that you have an Exige 😂
LOL...I should've wrote "I'd crap myself if my '2008 ASPEN WHITE LOTUS EXIGE S240 WITH VINYL GRAY STRIPE AND STAGE 2 EXHAUST" broke down in the middle of nowhere :P
no offense bruh, those side mirrors on that lotus are hideous
those are probably some refurbished ford escort mirrors from the eighties
I'd shit if my Chevy Spark broke down in the middle of nowhere.
I'd ejaculate if my Audi A3 broke down in the middle of nowhere.

your "fml" hat was pretty accurate with the clutch problems

you're still smiling. Way to go, James. At least you saw it coming. It will be up and running in no time.
man that really sucks. I hope your able to get things fixed for a relatively inexpensive amount.
Car problems are the absolute worst! I'm glad that State Farm came through. I was really hoping to see your car in Vegas this year.
Sucks for the break down! I saw you guys (gold rush rally) drive through my home town, Delta! My boys liked it!
Hope everything works out for you Stradman!
Of course this had to happen to the nicest guy on the Rally. Sorry for the misfortune James, but your attitude is inspiring.
Good thing ya got it back home at minimum cost. Just have to adapt schedule until it gets fixed. Kind of sad situation, but temporary setback. You'll get a even cooler car to put miles on hopfully for us to ride along.
Too bad that happened during the rally James. Hope you get it fixed without too much cost and hassle.
0raivec good thing it broke down as soon the really ended, though.

and still waiting :(
You made the best of a crap situation. Keep moving on man, great videos!
Best of luck with your Lamborghini man! I hope it's a very simple fix that won't be too expensive.
That really sucks man! Really unfortunate, I still love your channel and the content you put out. Hope everything goes well!

holy shit the synchronized acknowledgment from the xpel guys tripped me out
should have rev matched/heel toed your downshifts instead of just jamming in the gears and letting the rpms drop then go back up Lol that would have gave you a bit more clutch life
that sucks man, never good when your baby breaks down. glad to see you're going to just keep pushing along
My heart was racing everything you shifted. lol, especially when you said you were going to tow the car, luckily its free. lemme drop my like before I go.
Unlucky James! Just use your Jeep, put some stickers on it and go :P Much love from Italy
Great cinematography
so sorry to hear about the car james hope you can get it fixed without having to spend to much money
these last videos have been amazing! soo good! 👏👏 keep it up james 👏

What happened to day 2 footage... what's the lifespan of a typical after market clutch for a Gallardo 1st Gen
Good thing the dudes in the truck waited for you that's fucken cool.
bear lake is beautiful. I used to live in Logan UT in the 90's. I used to frequent beaver Mt. it was some good affordable skiing.
I think you are a great driver James. Shame it happened now but you will go to 90k on that next clutch for sure. ;)
My clutch went out on a rally with my Triumph TR4A. Kind of sucked had to wait two days to FedEx a slave cylinder. I since installed a 5 speed transmission. I could not get my car out of 2nd gear. I know how you feel. I am guessing the repair will not be cheap.
Kevlar clutches last much longer but it's a pretty penny. Really though, you're at the mileage where all the other major issues begin.
sounds like master or slave...not necessarily clutch itself...goto Vegas and win the cash for repairs
Christopher Kilger subscribe to me now
Im pretty sure it's the clutch because when he got his oil changed they said his clutch was about to go out and it was his homies shop so they probably weren't lieing to him
Christopher is right. If the clutch was worn out, it would slip or chatter when the clutch pedal is UP, and he would not be able to get any torque to the wheels. But he can't DISENGAGE the clutch, so it's likely a hydraulic problem.
Like life. Gotta take the bad with the good and make the best of both. Good luck continuing and stay positive. 👍👍💪
Keep it up James! Sorry to here about the Lambo. Just stay positive! Finish out the Rally for those of us who are living vicariously through you!
Hope you went to Vegas. You are on a good roll with the vlog posts. Good luck. PS: Maybe time to sell the ride?
Busy few days and no time for YT, so I only see it now, sad it happened, now I have to see the last video should you sell the Lambo, curious to find out what's next. But I would certainly watch your videos even without supercar, you are what makes your channel great!
No way! I was in deer valley at the Stein Erikson Lodge a couple months ago for spring break.
Hey at least the car looks good even when on a flatbed. Sorry to hear about the clutch, keep up the good vids, I'll make sure to keep my Adblock off now lol

Sorry your Gallardo clutch had a problem James. I love your vids and I can imagine how sad I would be if my Miata clutch had a problem.
Glad you got the car home. Still, an entertaining episode.
That sucks but it's still a beautiful car!
Thanks RUclips for the recommendation… 4 years late
