I totally LOVED every split second of this! Your didactic methods really connect with me. You have that rare commodity known as "SAVVY!" This truly turned on light bulbs in the old thought gland ! THANK YOU!
Alec Steele My theory on true Damascus steel is that they would melt the iron, and carbon in a crucible and then pattern weld the billets. Seems like the two would work very well together, I really need to test it out.
tjzx3432 and that's pretty much the definition of woot steel (basically the "original" Damascus, as it was brought back to Europe from Damascus during the crusades [not that pattern welded steel didn t exist in Europe before then, re: vikings])
A knife makers guild member explained his Damascus as a 'marble cake' of flexible low carbon ball bearings, and brittle but high carbon wood files. Then heat 'em and beat 'em. Sometimes you get a brittle knife that holds no edge or a flexible knife that's is sharp as diamonds
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL KNIFE!! Don't be that tough on yourself! You are a TRUE craftsman! I am a long time collector & budding knife maker. I hope that i can achieve this level of quality in my work. I would be proud to have it in my collection! The overall thickness appears to be MASSIVE! I might have used the opportunity to sculpt or etch something along the spine. The cool thing about it though, is, with it remaining as it, it accentuates the thickness in the tang. Thanks Again!!!
From what you started with to what you ended with....I am blown away with your workmanship! What a gorgeous result! Wish I could buy that and add it to my collection! Great job!!!
I got bored yesterday and made a blade from a piece of glass using just a sharpening stone . its useful for nothing but it looks brilliant! Love the video. Peace out!
In Macedonian : Најдобар нож што сум видел да се изработи, прекрасно нешто, трпение и добар мајстор. 100000 палци нагоре. In English : Best knife ever seen handmade, beautiful made, wonderful thing , patience and a good worker. 100000 thumbs up.
I completely follow what you're saying about not being timid on the grinder! In the anatomy-art hybrid elective I'm in, one of the instructors (a self-taught artist) really emphasizes that much of painting is just going for it, moving the colors around, basically making the tool in your hand an extension of you. I thought of that when you mentioned that, and it makes sense as knife making really is an art form. Great video!
Loved this video for your great narrative! A lot others just have some inane music running, but this one was a refreshing change and the way you took us through the entire process was really great! The knife looks awesome! Looking forward to many many more videos and lovely builds! Cheers!
This video rang bells for me at around 17:27, recently had nearly finished a knife after around 20 hours of work and took two much off the scales on the belt grinder, created another 2 or 3 hours of unnecessary work so when you commented about going to the rasp and off the grinder I totally relate to that and agree with you, there no turning back. Excellent knife, as you say, for the first attempt at a hollow grind, it turned out very very nice, great video as usual.
haha, I was wondering if anyone would notice:) I started this knife build in January before I made that scribe. I forgot about it and then finished it yup this week. Cheers!
What a beautiful blade.. The hole time I watched you make this blade I was imagining a gut hook on the top sweep of the blade. Grate angle for it, good sweep for skinning and thick enough for batoning; plus it looks bad ass. I would buy it, grate build. First time seeing your work. I'll be watching more.
I just love the look of that Persian fighter, it's mean looking and perfect for chopping , a good tool to have around when camping but I'll probably be afraid to scratch it .well done .
The Tang Water will rust the blade. All yoy have to do to clean it is just rub it with rubbing alchohol. Water wont do anything to the blade but rust it
This is so amazing Jeremy, this is like the coolest blade ever! It's hard to believe you make these by hand, they look SO professionally made they look like they're machine made almost! You do great work, and i find it super interesting.
Awesome looking blade, been watching all week waiting for this video. I am huge fan of Persian style blades with their up-swept tips and re-curve bevels. You totally nailed it. Not trying to be a nitpick on your pronunciation, but I got into this discussion with someone over this same thing before, and how you say the word "swedge", which technically isn't a word in a dictionary (yet - somehow), but according to one or two sources this is what I came up with: swage - (swāj) 1. A tool used in bending or shaping cold metal. 2. A stamp or die for marking or shaping metal with a hammer. 3. A swage block. swedge - (swej) 1. A faux double edge on the blade of a knife. Excellent for reducing the weight of the blade and balancing. 2. a section of a knife's spine, beginning at the point and extending generally one-third to one-half the length of the blade, which has been ground to give the appearance of a second edge (but without actually being sharpened). Thanks again for the informative video and awesome tips. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite channels.
Thank you very much. And thanks for the information about the swedge. I hand't looked into it that far and and this info you provided is really interesting. Nice to learn something first thing in the morning👍 Thanks for sharing and thank you for the compliments. I really appreciate it. Cheers!
Wow if you call that beauty a "just ok" I wonder what kind of awesomeness makes in your shop when you're happy with the final work. Love your channel!! Greetings from Chile!!
Beautiful knife. Inspired to try a similar one. I haven't made one in a few months and need to knock the dust off. It's just so hot in south Georgia now with the humidity.
14:24 < One of the many things that I learned while making my fist knife. I neglected to wipe off the "squeeze-out" and I had to reblue and refinish a couple areas. I don't like making more finish work. Now I know for next time. Beautiful knife my friend!
Great to see the process in an honest presentation. Thanks for being transparent with your builds, especially in the generation of critics that we have today. My hat is off to you sir. I am a knife builder married to a graphic designer/artist. We constantly remind each other that "everyone is a critic but very few can create". Keep up the good work. Be encouraged sir, as you encourage so many each day. I guess what I'm trying to say is thanks for doing what you do, you make a difference sir. P.S. That's a balls out knife grind bro!
Simply art n craftsmanship to the perfection. Man you've an eye for detail and your work speaks it. I love your work would love to follow your mind boggling creations. Words are not enough buddy!! Hat's off to you!!!!
Really nice blade! I'm also a maker (don't have any videos...yet) but I loved how you brought up the tapered tang. Its something I try to do with most of my knives and don't see done here a lot on youtube.
Enjoyed that build. I love multiple pieces for the handle. I use canvas micarta often and would use it more if the dust wasn't so horrible. I couldn't tell if you did this or not, but you want to scuff that shiny layer off your micarta and G10 before gluing. I had some epoxy come loose before even after cleaning. Real nice job.
Thanks! Yeah that dust is nasty. But that WIAC was even worse. It smells like sanding finer-glassed bonds. Really nasty. And yeah I did scuff up the micarta and the G10, but just didn't show it in the video. Thanks for the compliments, much appreciated! Cheers!
Jeremy, You kept us in suspense on this " hunk of a knife" since you referred to it in past videos. Beautiful work and well worth the wait. Thanks for sharing with aspiring knife makers! Cheers!
Thanks Dennis, I appreciate the compliments. I was mostly waiting until I ordered some of that thin G-10 spacer material. Also, I until I had a bit of free time I suppose. Cheers!
That is a gorgeous blade! You see a lot of common knifes made but few true fighting knives. As a blade lover for the art side I have to say thank you!
Thank you very much!
He is now working on my persian knife. I can hardly wait to see and put my hands on it. What a piece of art.
"After all the polishing it turned out kinda okay". He said.
Dude!? That thing looks flippin awesome! Great job!

How many hours it took from you to make this job??
Thank you very much. I would say probably 8 hours or so if I remember correctly. 👍
Nice.. This is how a knife makeing vid is made.. No music. Explains everything. Good work..

Sorry, it was a VLOG. I actually haven't sharpened it up yet but I probably will soon. Cheers!

Wow, I'm Persian 💗
I love that thick metal on that blade. It looks Awesome. Great job
Is it okay to soak a sword or dagger in water, clean in olive oil, then wipe with a napkin or towel if I plan on eating with it?
The Tang Water will rust the blade. All yoy have to do to clean it is just rub it with rubbing alchohol. Water wont do anything to the blade but rust it
awesome looking knife. Top 3 i have seen made on RUclips. It looks heavy but super strong. Learned several tricks here as well.

Good looking blade, Jeremy. Definitely like the contrast between the polished and non-polished steel.
Thanks!
I think it's beautiful
and you are really good at it
Nice job. I really liked how you left the mill scale on the blade body. It gave it a nice contrast and a slightly organic finish if that makes sense.

Love the accidental product placement on the horizontal grinder with the screw driver! I don't know anyone who doesn't have a set of those.
I just ran across you through Alec Steele. That is one awesome blade. Imperfections are not flaws they are character. Truly inspirational work!!!!
