Hard Rock Halelujah was a winner, because between 1998 and 2008 the results were decided only by the audience. Later juries were brought back and now the system is 50-50% juries and televote. I miss those crazy years with all the televote winners.
@Eva-mp7xg Yes. At least 75% televote, 25% jury. If a song is good enough, people will anyway get behind it (for example Portugal’s Salvador). It depends on the people’s need - fun song, silly song, dance song, ballad… And they vote for it.
I also think the jury should be sacked completely; it's a "song contest", not a singing contest so who cares if someone can't carry a note perfectly or whatever as long as people enjoy and are having a blast? If someone has a problem with such stuff, they should watch "Got Talent" or whatever singing competitions there are nowadays instead. 🙄
@@fhernandezgutierrez2366 Ukraine won because of war. And it kind of makes sense, but Spain with Chanel should have won. UK was second because he was a tiktoker.
1st time I ever voted for a Eurovision song, and I had been watching for over a decade at the time. And I have sheldom voted since. That song slaps as you said and I am a metal/rock fun since the mid 90s.
CHANEL, Great among the greats, a true SHOWMAN of the stage. A great, complete artist, magnificent, a true bomb, fresh, jovial, perfection and vocal control, something very difficult when executing a performance of her characteristics. She is very good, impressive. A masterful, shocking, addictive performance, it makes your hair stand on end. WOW, my God she is wonderful, it makes you want to see her again and again.
and just remember is compulsory to sing LIVE in Eurovision . So Chanel had to train in a treadmill on heels for months to be able to dance and sing for this performance!
Finland in 2006 won because people were bored with all the mainstream stuff countries sent there, so Hard Rock Hallelujah just fit perfectly well. Btw, germany almost sent a similar act in 2000 with Knorkator, though they were a bit weirder. And as for Ukraine in 2007, as others have pointed out you aren't allowed to make political statements in your songs which is why they chose to have a song in a made up language + a little bit of german sprinkled in with a chorus that sounds like "I want to see Russia Goodbye".
Verka even uses a derogatory term for Russians when he speaks Ukrainian in the middle of the song, i.e. "Russki, Russki!" and then something about Ukrainian. Russia also tried to get him disqualified for performing a political song, to which Verka said that it was just a nonsense song, since then Verka has basically said "Now it is about Russia" whether it was about Russia to begin with, we'll never really know, because the lyrics are mostly nonsense. Protest songs from the former USSR tend to be nonsensical at face value. Basically to maintain a veneer of plausible deniabilitity
@@LocalEClown_Music The funny thing is that Verka was very muched loved in russia too, still probably loved by oppositional russians. After the increased invasion of Ukraine in 2022 (the war started in 2014), Verka now sings russia goodbye instead of lasha tumbai. With the orange revolution in Ukraine a few years before this song, a lot of Ukrainians were tired of russian influence over the country. The 2004 winner Ruslana was also very active during the Orange revolution and afterwards in politics.
@@omega1231 NONSENSE! That was ruSSian hallucination, which ruSSian envious competitors used to get rid of the highly successful in ruSSia "Verka"- Danilko and prohibit his concerts in ruSSia for >3 years. At that time, the text was a funny mix of German, Ukrainian, ruSSian, and made-up words, including the meaningless, funny "Lusha tumbai". Only after 2022 did he start singing "ruSSia GOODBYE!"
Dudes, Hard Rock Hallelujah is a great song. Lordi has been doing it's thing since the ninetees and still is gigging and spitting albums out. Also they totally broke the Eurovision mold in 2006 and people loved it. They got a landslide of votes.

Yes! Chanel and Lordi. Two very memorable and outstanding performances! Chanel would so easily win this years competition. Sometimes it’s the right song, but the wrong timing/year. 2025 is the most boring year (imo of course) since 2018. where is a kärja when you need one 😉
that's why i love Eurovision. Europeans always sent eclectic and bold entries that American music haven't. Right now, 2025 entries are more diverse and had unexpected wins from each national finals(looking at you, KAJ from Sweden)
I agree, this year is so much fun with so much diversity and the most songs sung in non-English languages in ages. As a Swede, I'm so proud that we're sending KAJ!
"IDK what the F is going on, but I'm loving it!" Yes, that's basically Eurovision in a nutshell. (If you're watching viral Eurovision performances, you should do Finland from 2023 next.)
Spain did great, it was one of the best Eurovision Channel performances. It was fantastic, a catchy song with a rhythm, energy, fire, it has everything, plus the very bullfighting costumes and a sexy choreography. I'm proud to be Spanish and of the great gala they put on 😍🔥🇪🇸
Lordi won because the song is actually such a great song. I've heard it played by an army band and a tango accordion and some other styles, the melody holds up is superb and the act was not just a novelty thing. The singer produced all the costumes himself and is a very talented man. I have never been as happy with a winner at any year than with Lordi. And I'm Swedish! Seeing my neighboring country winning for the first time was the most heartwarming thing ever!
there are so many interesting eurovision songs that you can add, these are i recommend: voila, 1944, Arcade, mar pelos Dois, we could be the same, Hatrið mun sigra, shum, Tout l’univers, sound of silence, its my life, run away, space man, Mama ŠČ!, rhythm inside, stefania, river, cha cha cha
Lordi was the first and so far the only Finnish winner. They also broke the records for most points in semifinal and grand final that year. And when they came back to Finland, the Finnish people broke the world record for most karaoke singers with 80 000 people singing Hard Rock Hallelujah. People celebrated the victory on the streets until the sunrise.
Ukraine 2007 is a classic, it's like the best of Eurovision(you're laughing with it not at it and it's catchy and crazy), it was 2nd that year and everyone brings it up every Eurovision. You should watch Ukraine's 2021 entry, Go_A - Shum, that really for me is a phenomenal entry, it's different, it has folkloric elements and it's so good
Lordi is touring still and were in the UK just recently on their own headline tour. Few years back the were warm up for Sabaton and Babymetal. That was something else 😂😂
Spain came in third, not tenth. Ukraine won because it was the year of the Russian invasion, and it was very recent, three months old, and the pity vote was very strong for Ukraine. The United Kingdom came in second by 7 points, but if the votes had been distributed correctly without the pity vote, Spain would have won because many of the Ukrainian votes would have gone to Spain, which received many more votes from the public than the United Kingdom. The jury distributed the votes logically.

Mr. Lordi was ill during the Eurovision 2006, he was very bummed that he couldn't do the best he can do on stage. But considering he had a sore throat etc., his singing is pretty darn good :)
The consensus is that Chanel was absolutely robbed. It was the year when the Ukraine war exploded, and well, that reflected on the public vote... I'm not sure if it's true or what, but I've always heard that some guy even made an excel and run the math and if you remove Ukraine from the equation Spain would've won that year. They got more 10s (next and highest score is 12) from a lot of countries so those points would've made them pass UK that ended up second ❤️
