Finally some Soho footage of A781 TYO. The only LFB SS to be fitted with wailer sirens rather than two tones and the only one currently in preservation. EDIT: A781 TYO is currently the only fully restored LFB SS, however the North East Emergency Vehicle Society are currently restoring NYV 705Y and NYV 729Y using parts from NYV 700Y. 700 is intact but is not in a great way so she is being broken to help get 705+729, which are both in much better nick, to pristine condition. Also interesting, in this, A781 TYO is the pump ladder with A795 TYO as the pump, as I assumed it was throughout the late 80s and very early 90s. In your other Soho videos, mind, 795 is the pump ladder with 781 nowhere to be seen despite the fact she was the Soho PL in 1987 and at least into the mid 90s, so maybe she was in the workshop on the days you'd filmed the station, where 795 had been 'promoted' or however you describe it.
This is what the London I came to for work from Ireland in the 80's still looks like in my mind. Was like another world from small village I'm originally from. Hard work, good people by and large and great craic.
Give the mate who put you up to this a high five for me will you? Love the roar of the V8 mixed with the siren. I grew up with Aussie built Internationals with petrol V8s roaring with a loud siren, so this is so relatable.
Drove that one when it first came. Playing with the wailers - so much fun. Got bollocked by a PC for doing an extended siren test at change of watch with the bay doors open. Public relations we called it
Thanks for posting. As featured in the first Londons Burning episodes. This was the London I remember , having worked in the Big Smoke for a short while. Later , lugging heavy Army & personal kit , from Aldershot - Waterloo , then to Kings Cross , via the tube , then home. Good job we were Para fit , often the only way back up was the lenghty flights of stairs.
Brilliant video, does look odd looking back at no reflector strips, chevrons etc on the back of any of the engines, a few years to go until they were introduced.
I remember the part time fire stations in the uk back then. I remember out playing in the street and hearing the air raid siren. Blasted for around two minutes before lowering down and fading out.
This station is right in the centre of London. Lots of tall buildings around, so any calls to a high-ish building the TL automatically gets called out....
And i must say for the 80s thats quality footage as most people where i lived at the time told me they had barely enough to buy one of them Super Cine 8 things 😂
@@Charlzey1998 I was lucky enough to buy a camera that took full sized E180 VHS tapes. So unlike the small video 8 system, i never had to copy my films off onto larger tapes. That kept the quality up, and transfering to DVD didn't loose any quality either!
@@paxundpeace9970 ...... yeah but on the shit Scania platform - to go with the shit Mercedes platforms that the pumps are built on. Today only Volvo come anywhere *close to the Dennis, Shelvoke & Drewry, and Dodge chassis that LFB’s extensive fleet was built on. Largely these were purpose-built fire appliances - tough, capable and reliable, and not badly-converted HGVs by mediocre fire appliance bodybuilder firms. *And when I say, “anywhere close to”, I’m being generous!
Lighting was shocking in those days but the sirens were always better.

I haven't seen a HP in years, good old days with the two tone siren
Dagenham station still has a Volvo hp I service mainly used as a spear

I wasn't too keen at the time filming lorries and fire appliances but now i'm glad i did!

Thanks for your memories.... I've walked up plenty of stairs on the Underground in my time working for them.....

Yes, they are a real snap-shot in time.....

@@adamcrane1436 hello Adam.....
Thank you for cool old videos!
M y pleasure......
Only just discovered your channel my friend, brilliant!!! Straight back to my teens growing up in the area😊
Thank you... plenty of heritage uploads still to come.....
They are like the dirtiest pollution, loudest things ever, you have to love it! 😂🚒🚒🚒🚒

Is thus the same soho that responded to the kings cross fire 1987 and lost staition officer Colin j townley
Yes, this is the station......
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus thanks
London's burning anyone? :)
Listen to those beautiful Perkins V8 engines!
And the HCB-Angus X reg Dodge looks a well-abused old machine by the dints in it.
00:34 - Flashback seeing the old Mercury phonebox!
Fair play to them. Must have large underpants to drive round London at that speed, even back then.
1:49 I like those yelps and two tones!
I can’t believe that these sirens are slowly being thrown away. They’re beautiful.
Great video of the good old dennis's! One question was it filmed around 1989?
Yes, it was around that time.....
Busier than a knocking shop door

Great weather too 😊👍
Close call at 4:43 did the bus driver even check his offside mirror ?
Probably not!
Very interesting targa top Mini cabriolet there behind the Kentish Bus Olympian 2:19
Looks like a sandal
The wail/yelp invasion had just begun than.
Awesome clips :O
Thank you.....
I'm guessing mid-late 89 as they changed the callsigns that year?
I wouldn't really know, it was my mate that had me film these.....

Never seen a Shelvoke SPV HP before!
I think the LFB had a few of those, but it was my mate who was the FB enthusiast.....
West Midlands FS had a couple of them too, a half cab and one with a crew cab. Both SS263s.
Shelvoke WY hydraulic platform. The LFB had 10 of those in addition to their 48 WX pump escapes.
Proper appliances. Not like the shit we have nowadays.
12 new 30 Meter ladders
3 new 64 Meter ladders.

Do you have any of the dodge pumps turning out
Possibly, i will have to check. The TL/HP got a lot more calls due to all the high buildings in central London....
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus would have been nice to see the Essex ones turning out one of their HPs got written off in 1994
Convenient location, but a ******** to get in & out of, there.
