***** no but it builds the character more, other than just "space Peach" and that is a good thing. It also reveals more about WHY she is in space on a giant space ship with Lumas the further you progress through the game. So it reveals more about the world you are in. This is why Galaxy 1 is more enjoyable than 2, since 2 just feels like a selection of random levels rather than an adventure.
How is Rosalina's story a downside ? Tbe first time I played the game I was coming back to the library after each level to see if anything new was there because I loved it.
I'm still baffled that someone would crap on the Rosalina story and tell people not to listen to it. It's the cutest thing ever and the melody that accompanies it is the most bittersweet thing I've ever been subjugated to.
The story, in all honesty- Is hot garbage. It's so throw away it could be thought up in a single days time with just ONE writer in a dimly lit cubicle in some basement in Japan.. No depth. Hokey. Cliche for days. But, thankfully it's not about the story. at all. Edit: I also wanted to mention that I literally just got the game a week ago, as the Wii is dirt cheap. Long time Mario lover, and warmly admit to their sloppy stories and unabashed kiddy-ness as it's just what Mario IS. I love this game with all my heart. Music? Cannot be denied. But story, nah. Guess everything is subjective though.
I have to disagree on the irrelevance of Rosalina's story in the game. In fact, I thought it was a great change of pace to give a character a less than happy backstory and add a layer of complexity over the generally 2 dimensional characters of the Mario universe.
Dillon James I think what he means is that the games will be the same game as their predecessor i.e. Super Mario Sunshine 2 will be the same as Super Mario Sunshine
Well I don't think they will, I mean, we are 10+ years in the future, surely there is something they can pull from Super Mario Sunshine. However I can see how Galaxy 3 wouldn't be a different game.
I've played it multiple times, the first time when I was only 7, and the Rosalina story was, in my opinion, a haunting and emotionally provoking piece of this masterful game and I draw connections between the themes behind it with my own life at times. Yes, it is very simple, but that makes it all the better in my opinion and gives a vastness to the overall feel of this game, a sublime feeling of emptiness in an epic production of a world. It connects the gameplay to the end of the story with recurring themes of self-sacrifice for the benefit of others and the benefits thereof, whilst keeping the remembrance of the loss required to reach that point. It is an inexplicable feeling I have towards this aspect of the game and I cannot put it into words. It is sobering in its brutal simplicity and thematic nature considering its audience. I think about this a lot and it drives me to play it through every few years or so
See my problem with that is 3D world feels too safe for me. Besides, i have the 3ds version, the only difference is really just some items and multiplayer
I've played through the game with a friend. That's my genuine opinion. It's not a bad game, just not exciting enough to warrant an entire console purchase
This is the best video game in my opinion. I don't want to say this, but I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU SAID ROSALINA'S STORY WAS A NEGATIVE! WTF?! DUDE, HER STORY GIVES DEPTH IN THIS GAME MUCH MORE THAN ALMOST ANY MARIO GAME! When this game came out and I played it, I would NEVER STOP PLAYING IT. even if I go away from it for a while, I WOULD ALWAYS COME BACK TO EXPERIENCE IT! 10/10 at least or more infinity/10. If anyone wants a really REALLY REALLY BEAUTIFUL WII GAME, GET SUPER MARIO GALAXY. DO NOT HESITATE. IT IS SO AWESOME!!
The level designs were awesome in Sunshine, but the controls weren't, and neither was the voice acting. Sunshine wasn't better than Galaxy, but it's close. Really close.
My first video game EVER, and still my favorite. It's aged so well imo! I was six when I got it for Christmas in 2007, and it's so hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since this game's release!

punch3870 Yeah. I'll admit that. Especially in the first mission in the Space Junk Galaxy when you're finding the star chips. When I got one I kept running around in circles.
Yeah, I agree. They are both 10/10 games for me, but the original is better. If not for anything else, then for the fact that you can CHOOSE which stage you will play next. SMG2 is more linear.
I really love this game! I wish I never sold my wii so I could play it again. The good thing about it is it takes a while to actually complete unlike most games nowadays
Mario Galaxy is a monumental and landmark achievement in gaming, it took everything we thought we knew about 3D platforming and literally blasted it all the way to the stratosphere. In 2023, is this the greatest Nintendo platformer ever made? Even in a post-Odyssey world, there's still a strong argument to be made for Galaxy.
Best mario game hands down, anybody who disagrees either has something against mario already, or couldn't beat the purple coin comet in ToyTime Galaxy xD
I'm not being nostalgic seeing as I didn't follow IGN back then but I prefer the simplicity of these reviews so much more than the recent ones that attempt to have a grand scale. This just feels straight to the point.
To say Super Mario Galaxy lacks a story is a serious understatement. Super Mario Galaxy had perhaps the most sophisticated storyline a Mario game has ever had. Mario wants to spend time with the princess, bowser wants to create a new galaxy and take over the universe, you meet a new character with a backstory... and I know he didn't know at the time (this video was made in 2008), but galaxy 2 adds to the lore. Also, there is the ending where the universe is reset thanks to the lumas... I'd say that is a lot of lore if you ask me...
@@callinater6133 i never said galaxy had the best story.. I'm just saying that it doesnt "lack" one (After rereading my comment, I spotted where I said "the most sophisticated." @Podings I agree. 2011 has been an amazing year with so many top quality releases but...this game was just of another echelon. It's really hard in this day and age to produce something that truly compels you because I'm so jaded with every game being in 3D and having pretty good graphics and sound. This game is proof that Nintendo will be around long after everyone else has run out of juice.
I really need some advice here. I just bought a Wii for my kids for Christmas. I will hook it up to my 60" Plasma with component cables and upscale to 1080p. Will this game and most Wii games still look good on such a big tv? Also, should I stick with only using the motion remote, or get two classic pro controllers too?
I have several questions, including: Why does the ign review of Super Mario Galaxy only have half a million views? Why did RUclips recommend this to me on 2020? Why is an optional side story considered a negative?
I like super mario galaxy better then super mario galaxy 2. Both were amazing games, the only reason I like galaxy 1 is because I felt like the game was more story driven like super mario sunshine. Even though mario games are not meant story games like the legend of zelda or metroid. But this game makes me feel more connected to mario and gives other characters a personality unlike pervious games...again this is my opinion.
this was the best video game i have ever played. regardless off category or genre. its just the all around best game. the story the game play the puzzles the difficulty it was just a great experience
The only thing holding this game back from being the perfect 3D platformer in my opinion are the rather lame power ups. The bee, the boo, and spring are necessary to beat certain levels, but awkward and not that fun to play with. Collecting all 120 stars was an awesome challenge and some levels took me over an hour to beat. Can't wait to hop on Yoshi for Galxaxy 2 and eventually 3D World on the Wii-U.
Galaxy 3 should be a thing for the wii u! The graphics and lighting would be even better! As well as the fact he Galaxy 1 is my second or third favourite game, and if Galaxy 2 is able beat that at number 1, nmber 3 should do the same :D
This game is very approachable and the easier beginner levels get you used to using the wiimote and nunchuck together. It takes a little while, but you'll build your control skills as you progress through the game, as well as adust to controlling Mario when he's powered up with the "bee" or "ghost" suit. The galaxies are so varied and different challenges await in each one. The boss fights are great and so rewarding when you beat them. You should just dive in, you'll have a blast!!
And Super Mario Galaxy is most definitely not repetitive. You saw it yourself in the video; the variety of level design in this game still blows my mind.
no matter what nintendo delivers their games have so much quality and it is so immersive.. for some reason games like last of us are just boring... i like mario gears halo uncharted these and other really make gaming fun and dont forget zelda
'but don't take my word for it. i'm going to shut up now and let you watch some of this video' stuff like this is what made the old ign reviews so good
You gave Ocarina of Time a 10 but this a 9.7? Are you mad? I know that's a good rating but give me a flaw with Galaxy. You can't? Too much space? Bull. Ocarina had flaws even for the time like too many interruptions, too much waiting, and a weak combat system which could've been better. What aged better after ten years? Galaxy or Ocarina? You know the answer to that.
Ok I know that nobody will agree with me on this. but even tho the wii is like. What? 9 years old or something. But i still think the wii still feels modern and new. I loved the thing when it came out and i still play it all the time. I just got mario party 9 last night. I know no one will agree with me. But that's just my opinion. Also i think i'm just not ready to upgrade yet. Plus i don't got the money :D
I disagree, the thing is old, and it looks awful today. But damn, i had some fun with it. The best birthday gift I ever got and I have a Wii U now that's the same case. It's great, it's fresh, it's Nintendo! Sadly, both get hated because they do something new and people refuse to see the good side of... Oh well, I have a great time with it.
I cant believe that Rosalina story is a negative! What the hell?
Thats like the best thing in the game

Why did RUclips recommend this to me on 2020?
Why is an optional side story considered a negative?
I like super mario galaxy better then super mario galaxy 2. Both were amazing games, the only reason I like galaxy 1 is because I felt like the game was more story driven like super mario sunshine. Even though mario games are not meant story games like the legend of zelda or metroid. But this game makes me feel more connected to mario and gives other characters a personality unlike pervious games...again this is my opinion.
I like galaxy 1 more because it has more unique and memorable stages in my opinion.
I've heard many people say 2 is an overglorified expansion for 1.
@@sobosswagner that’s actually true.
@@sobosswagner it is actually. Galaxy 2 was LITERALLY just composed of ideas that they couldn’t fit into the first
There's a learning curve to it at first (like any other game/new console/peripheral), but you'll get use to it in no time.
I hope wii u has a Mario galaxy 3
nope, it doesn't............. COME ON NINTENDO AT LEAST FOR THE SWITCH!?
Naw got oddesy
Don't compare galaxy to odyssey. Super Mario Galaxy is far better than odyssey will ever be.
debatable
Cyber Hunter super Mario odyssey is better bro
this was the best video game i have ever played. regardless off category or genre. its just the all around best game. the story the game play the puzzles the difficulty it was just a great experience
BEST MARIO GAME EVER CREATED. GALAXY 2 IS ON THE SAME LEVEL.
I love that if an enemy bumps you off the edge you're ok cuz of the gravity stuff. Best Mario game I have ever played
Who else is here because they are excited about 3d Allstars
I love how this game is packed with creativity.
beginning of video: u better give a mother ducking 10/10
Omg totally agree. And the Galaxies that make you go up side down hurt my eyes X_X
I agree with you for the Boo powerup! It feels lame...But I liked both the Bee and the Spring powerups.
How do you feel about life 8 years later?
@@4400seriesFAN Hi!
@@xsomeoneh8245 Hello!
Watching this review brings back memories of me playing this game 24/7
Yes... Me too.
Who was brought here because of 3D all stars? 😂
Man I love this game so much
Galaxy 3 should be a thing for the wii u!
Anyone else here hoping for the remaster on the switch🙏
@Blue lets get it😂
And Super Mario Galaxy is most definitely not repetitive. You saw it yourself in the video; the variety of level design in this game still blows my mind.
no matter what nintendo delivers their games have so much quality and it is so immersive.. for some reason games like last of us are just boring... i like mario gears halo uncharted these and other really make gaming fun and dont forget zelda
'but don't take my word for it. i'm going to shut up now and let you watch some of this video' stuff like this is what made the old ign reviews so good
Ocarina of time is better than this? OH HECK NO!
hell yeah
Ocarina of time is overhyped. Twilight princess and majoras mask take the title of best zelda games
I remember getting this game for christmas as a kid
BEST GIFT EVER!!
This isn't a game, this is a work of art.
As i said you don't have to agree with me
I agree with you man. I see myself constantly playing on the Wii, it's just too good of a machine to give up on! It feels so so so so!!!!! modern!
Yeah!
I haven't got either Galaxy games. Should I get the first or rush ahead to the sequel?
