Absolutely love this idea for a series and can't wait to see more. I'd love to see one of these for Yorick or Ornn as some champs who are pretty bulky in build but have a lot of character to them.
@@SlayDelReyyy you know some people just couldn't think of better words to say? its just a compliment its not like they're saying the artists never worked their ass off and its only pure talent, stop making it seem like it's an insult
I think if you are a concept artist who wants to get into Riot in the future, this is literally PURE GOLD, absolutely priceless! Can't wait to see an episode about 3d artist in the future!
this is one of the most talented guys i've ever seen and i'm in awe whenever he shows us a new project he's participated in, you participated in the creation of rakan elderwood* and i can never thank you enough, this skin is fantastic! hope you have the opportunity to work on something about rakan again
All the details explaining the design process, the different aspects that need to be taken into consideration when designing a skin, while many of which were already known, there were quite a few new ones, it was was fascinating to listen to. And the concept for the skin itself is a really fun one, it's almost akin to the older style of skins which were significantly simpler than some current skin designs. This concept is absolutely competent and it'd be incredible for Riot to release some more down to earth, yet still very much fantastical skins like this one! I love demons and dragons and mystical creatures as much as the next person, but this is such a breath of fresh air, still very much interesting and fun while being more laid-back than some more recent lines. I'm absolutely sold!
As someone currently setting foot into Game Art Territory, I can really say that this video is not only entertaining, but also educating to watch! I can learn a lot about a good workflow and mindset from watching it, highly recommend to other artists esp. those who love doing concepts!
I have been wanting and waiting for a Circus skinline in years and this concept was so good. However, it destroyed me since this concept may not see the light of day so I hope the community will push Riot to make this idea canon. I really want that killer clown Sion.
A lot of gems can be found here: - Function over form. Always prioritize gameplay (how the player identify and perceive her character) and the actual animations. - Highlight the upper body part using bright colors and design with points of interest. - Focus on the overall shapes that are readable (sharp edges, giant hat). - Generate excitement and the narrative direction of the thematic universe. - Retain the character's personality and story. - Try making fan-arts to gain potential job opportunities.
I didn't mean to watch this video at all, but I was interested in the process they have. Got stuck watching this entire video. Twice. This man is a true gem for riot. Insane depth with his thoughts and suuuuuuuch a cool and congenial. I'd love to drink a tea with this bossman, that would guaranteed to be a fun event.
Thanks for the great video Thomas and Riot. So damn educational. I love hearing the "why" we do x, y, and z from an art AND business/team pov. Anyone who wants to work in the industry (and pros already) can learn a ton from this.
I'm just 1 min in and this gives so much insight on how many things you have to take into account when making a concept for a skin depending on the game you are working on. I already was aware of the fact that you need to be careful with details because some might not be visible in league of legends' isometric view but taking into account animation joints takes it to a whole new level! Also Caitlyn's gun in the poolparty skin always bothered me with its neon/bright colors but now that ive been given the reasoning behind it (the weapon/place of power of the character needs to be highlighted) it just makes me admire the work behind each skin even more. Work that sadly isn't always coming through the way riot wanted as the personalization of a skin is not always there with some skins where players mistake the champion for another one just because of how generic it was made to look. Regardless, amazing video!!
Thomas described every single part of his thought process and it was incredibly insightful and fun to watch. That Caitlyn looks so damn cool, especially her rifle. I'd love to see a Super Art Power Hour on Illustration too! Decrypting the process of image composition and use of color and value to create certain moods would be amazing.
I can’t believe there are adorable people behind the skins making. I also can’t believe they get hate??? How can you hate this person? Just look at him listen to him, LOOK AT HIS WORK!
Wow, this power hour episode is so cool! How did he just share much knowledge on a variety of things while effortlessly drawing a new skin!? You are amazing!
I am not an Artist. I work as a BD in the industry. But I would remember this sentence: "No skin is a bad skin. You just gotta think about it long enough."
Truly fascinating ! As an Inspiring character / concept artist, I feel like this video was made for me ! It's just so interesting and helpful, thanks riot and Thomas for this !
I've said forever that I would love to follow a Riot artist around for a day because of all the amazing art they create. I looove this series and can't wait to see more!
As someone who aims to work in video games, and who has a lot of interest in concept art in general, that is a litteral blessing. I beg you Riot, please do update more of those, I love this idea, and it'll help a ton of people like me that are out there
If this is just “concept” art I think I’m safe to speak for many and say we were pretty entertained by this ringleader and would love to see more of this show!
We also need an hour for splash art process and what goes through the mind of a splash artist, process of vfx animation artist .literally lovely content to eat up any time of the day ❤️❤️❤️
This video perfectly shows how this work is actually done 👍 90% of my guiding principles are built on real world references. Then it's a matter of iterating over and over to make it best thing it can be.
Ya this was really awesome Im interested to watch more of the series i actually got hooked and i really enjoyed hearing thomas talk all about the skins they worked on and the imaginative side of it.
I really always love these looks into development videos y'all do. I watch every single one and they inspire me to look into maybe being able to get into game development myself at some point. (The only problem is picking the right discipline! They all seem great :p)
My man never stopped talking for 50mins straight
and he always spit knowledge while making a good concept... amazing
That is indeed amazing, but also the editing team surely did wonders here lmao
This video is so good
Like they made this video just for you.
You’re embarrassing
@raynaldo arlen k.eman you are below gold.
👋👋👋👋👋
Yay one of the Riot teams that actually carries the game.
Balance team GOAT
Carried, last few skin lines are abominations
The art and music departments keep this game afloat
Music department is dead since they turned off login screens, tho Pentakill concert was good
Nice bait 😉
my mans just made a skin concept looking better than 90% of skins in one hour
in other to do that in one hour, this man has been thru eternity of pains and suffers only artists know about.
Absolutely love this idea for a series and can't wait to see more. I'd love to see one of these for Yorick or Ornn as some champs who are pretty bulky in build but have a lot of character to them.
Honestly, a full circus troop skinline would be so perfect. Lion Tamers, Trapeze artists, strongmen, clowns. Its just begging to be a thematic
Circus Lead/Lion Tamer Caitlyn, Strongmen Braum, Joker Shaco, Acrobat Akali, Knife Expert Irelia.. yes I can see that :D
add gnar as the animal mascot.

As a digital artist I just learnt more watching this man for 10 minutes than the last 10 years 😭
Gonna enjoying watching this series as it goes on, i've always been interested in the art for league
Cupcake looking clean, Cool art in less than an hour, very talented tbh.
Not talented, proficient is a better word.
Skilled, consistency and hard work. Saying talented kinda disregard the effort done

It's amazing. Would love to see more of this kinda stuff.
As a GameArt student, I do loveeeeee this kind of video and work. What an insparing company
This video could actually double as an amazing ASMR video, especially his pen strokes and keyboard clacks
