Back in 78, we hadn’t even heard of these guys in the states. This was the sound I was aching for then, and still today, 41 years later it’s still fresh to me! Thank you for posting
I wasn't there,....but i wish i was!, God bless you Mick Green, Truely stunning guitar playing as always, & a powerhouse performance from the lads. We are going to miss you alright.
This was The Pirates at one of their peaks, for much of the latter part of the seventies they were the best live band in Britain.Kid's,you should have been there.
Thanks Mick and The Pirates for your gigs in Finland thru years. Your gig in Kuusrock 1978 (Oulu, Finland) was one of the best rockshow I've ever seen!!!! I was 15 then and I'll never forget that raw rockin' action on stage!!! *****R.I.P. Mick***** We'll miss you!!!
This WAS Reading 78. They were the last band before the Jam headlined Friday night. The Jam looked a bit silly after this balls-out rock n roll from guys old enough to be their dads!!!
Any band would look and sound weak following The Pirates.Wish there was a full live concert of them in their prime on DVD.One of the tightest hardest rock bands I have ever seen live, and that's coming from a Ramones fan.
@@stingereasybuck6919 Sorry mate got to agree with Anita Bent, it was definitely The Pirates on before The Jam, I was right at the front and Weller had famously said.. How the fuck do we follow that!! Friday Night 🌙
The BBC is screening re-runs from that Glastonbury effort this weekend. Adele, Amy Winehouse, Chemical Brothers, Beyonce, David Bowie, Mumford and Sons, Nile Rogers, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran.....
@@chrisst8922 Ok I understand your comment now, Festivals are completely different now to how they were years back aren't they I've never been to Glastonbury, they seem to have made Glastonbury more like a Festival for the family these days it's organised now with almost military precision, if you don't want to listen to music there's probably loads of other things to do there, I probably sound like an old school snob and I probably am but give me the great albeit disorganised Festivals of the 70s! I've got a DVD of the Glastonbury festival 1971 called Glastonbury Fayre maybe you've seen it.
Sorry David you're wrong mate they were on before The Jam who were top of the bill and it was definitely dark when they came on! For it to have been light when The Pirates came on they would've had to play a four hour set!!
@@ELDuderino597 Hi Charlie thanks for getting in touch I've just played The Pirates set and I am 1000 % sure this was most definitely Reading Festival 1978 there's a lady name'd Anita Bent also messaging saying she was there aswell and she also said this was definitely Reading Festival 1978! She also said that The Jam came on next and in her opinion, they couldn't follow The Pirates! And there's another guy named Jon Williams who was another person in agreement with us, but I couldn't work out which stage they were on but as you said, does it really matter.
Nah,i was there too, 15 and hyper aware of every moment .You are emphatically mistaken . Pirates played earlier.I remember vividly ,tired and hungry, wishing that the tedious Ultravox set would come to an end so that The Jam could play theirs before I had to sprint for the last train .As it was i could only catch two before wading out of there. Part of that fatigue was not just hunger but from having a damn good dance to Pirates *earlier*. Not to forget then, that our thoughts of an acts quality is impacted by our own state at the time
Fantastic live band… Mick Green’s simultaneous lead + rhythm playing a wonder to behold! ❤
An unexpected highlight of the festival for me. They rocked.
What a phenomenal band! They were great in the sixties, but they should have been utterly massive in the seventies!!
Best live trio ever. Mick Green is up there in the pantheon of great guitarists. In the top 10 deffo. We'll miss you Sir.
And Hurriganes and Peer Günt from Finland!

The Pirates , Motörhead and dr.Feelgood. The best rock'n roll bands ever.
Hurriganes and Peer Günt too..💪
Plus " The Big Three " from Liverpool in the early Sixties.Marvellous power trio !
Great smashing piece .... people who played with heart and balls !!!!!!!!
I wasn't there,....but i wish i was!, God bless you Mick Green, Truely stunning guitar playing as always, & a powerhouse performance from the lads.
We are going to miss you alright.
Mick Green..a dandy pirate before Adam Ant thought of it. You got to be a legendary guitarist to pull of that look and he was.
Discovered this one via an old Kenny Everett show. Top band/tune 👍
The Pirates. Tavastia. Helsinki. Finland. 1978. I was there.

I watched this live ( Reading 1978), I'd gone to see The Jam, these guys blew everyone away and The Jam just couldn't follow their performance ..
Brilliant band, best of the lot for me. Thanks for posting, always some gem comes up on here.

Brillant live band; great version. Impressive Mick!
Dingwalls Camden Lock March 1978. Thanks for the memory & if there's a rock & roll heaven the Guvnor just arrived.
R.I.P Mick Green, a true hero.
Mick Green..the complete guitar player.
So much energy!
RIP Mick, a great loss.
Mick Green!
Awesome!
Fantastic!
Heads down, no nonsense nonsense!
If anyone knows where I can get a DVD of The Pirates set at Reading, please LMK
Same here..very little of them live on DVD.
Сильнейшие рокеры
As Wilko says down up down up
you can hear the stray cats and motorhead and x
Both of whom covered The Pirates incidentally!

What's Glastonbury got to do with The Pirates at Reading Festival 1978?
@@stevebowness9435 Well my point is how bad it's got. They've cancelled it again, not that I think I'd be missing anything.
