You are 100% correct. I have done alot of volunteer work with the homeless over the last 10 years or so, and in the winter time, alcohol actually kills quite a few homeless people who think think that they are warming themselves up by drinking a pint of cheap vodka or gin. It's a very deceptive thing, because it DOES "feel" like you are getting warmer. But it's really pulling blood away from your internal organs and making you much more suseptible to hypothermia.
There was a drunk woman who froze solid and when they warmed her body up she actually was alive and regained function. The alcohol in her blood kept her organs from freezing.

I grew up in Alaska. Of course, weather is rough, but what do you expect? This short only portrays homeless people’s experience of living in Alaska which, if that is the goal then good job. My brother was an alcoholic so he ended up being homeless as well, but he was one of the toughest people I’ve ever met in terms of work ethic. I got to spend one summer with him out in the bush, and it helped him so much; he was joyful out there just living off the land away from alcohol. My experience? It is absolutely stunning in the winter time and absolutely stunning in the summer time.
I’m originally from Kodiak and it’s practically tropical there compared to the rest of the state, it never got below zero once. It wasn’t until I moved to Wisconsin when I learned what REAL cold was.
When I first moved to Fairbanks it was -60. People freeze to death every winter. My partner had an acquaintance whom he went to the bar with in December.. They were messing around and the guy decided to get a cab and leave. My partner stayed and never saw the guy again. The guy's family were looking for him. The cops got involved. In April/May the snow started melting. There was a day care in the same plaza as the bar. The kids at the daycare were playing outside. They saw a person leaning against the fence. It was my partner's friend. He had passed out against the fence while he was waiting for the cab. He froze to death. It happens all the time.

I was doing street missionary with a church group as a teen and we found a man whose entire leg was so frost bitten it was black and his skin was peeking off in chunks . We tried to get him to let us take him to the hospital, but he refused. We tried to let him stay in the church for the evening but he refused. He took food from us and let us pray for him. I still wonder whatever happened to him . That was 11 years ago
my mom works at a homeless shelter in this exact same city, people die from fent or freezing. a kid was dropped off there after 16 years of the parent being tired. anchorage Alaska is just sad and Alaska is the most dangerous state in us

@@lyssagomez6009Celsius, here in the prairies of Canada it can get as cold as -40 and if mother nature is extra mad at us it can dip to -50, it did a few years ago and I was supposed to start a job but me and everyone else didn't show up lol cars won't start at that temp and if they do you're praying it stays on. Pro tip- what I do is I try to wear a good layer of clothes for every 10-15 degrees it dips, so like -40 wear a couple pairs of PJ pants, 2-3 pairs of socks, some thick pants over top or another layer of PJs pants under if you don't got good pants, a few t shirts long sleeves, hoodie, then jacket, for face use a neck warmer or a scarf and a good toque try to minimize exposed skin, if you start sweating lose a layer til you cool off a bit then re apply when needed. Call me crazy but I like the cold, I over heat a lot as it is so I find it refreshing up til my eyelids and nostrils start freezing

When I think of schools that have been closed down for usually stupid reasons, I'll think that would be perfect for homeless people. Have them keep maintaining the building. Free labor in trade for safe place to live. Don't know about Alaska, but the lower 48 sure have a lot of very nice brick gov buildings closed. Put them to good use for homeless people.
It gets colder than -20°F in most of Alaska, it's just that's more of a regular winter day. It can easily get to -40°, sometimes even colder. I live in the Denile wilderness between Anchorage and Fairbanks. It can get much colder in northern Alaska.
I spent a week in Dead Horse, which is not far from Point Barrow, during a -60 degree stretch of weather. It was literally a frozen hellscape, with oil rigs and heavy machinery encased in a foot or more of sold ice and hoar frost. At night, you’re surrounded by hundreds of flare pads, burning off the natural gas that comes up with the oil. Add to that, 😮that Dead Horse is a “dry camp” (i.e. no alcohol allowed), and I can safely say that it was the most dreary, desolate, and alien environment I have yet to experience in my 60 years.
I love that Alaska exposes choices. Gonna be dumb and lazy.. well.. that’s what happens. Want to work hard and be successful it’s right there. Less safety net like the lower 48. Make good choices = prosperity and happiness Make bad choices = well that was 90% of the people interviewed.
I took an Alaskan cruise. Seeing it that way was very beautiful. Idk if I could live there though I'm from Southern California and now live in Vegas so I'm used to 100 degree weather. The coldest it gets here is like 35, a few nights during the winter.

Its the same here in canada. Always cold for months , close to the mountains and its beautiful but so many die freezing on the streets. Basically all of them are on opioids. The wind here brutal too regularlly get winds between 15 and 30 kn. Its a very sad situation. Winters jyst begun and its qlready a high of -12 today

Its the same here in canada. Always cold for months , close to the mountains and its beautiful but so many die freezing on the streets. Basically all of them are on opioids. The wind here brutal too regularlly get winds between 15 and 30 kn. Its a very sad situation. Winters jyst begun and its qlready a high of -12 today
If you don't have disposable income, survival skills, and the ability to deal with isolation then Alaska isn't for you. It's expensive, demanding, and not for the mentally weak 🤔
