Thanks! Planting double rows on a single drip line has worked great for us with onions, carrots, and many other crops.
My dad told my city raised brother in law you planted with the eyes up so they could see the way to grow. Also he always wrapped the cut potatoes in damp papertowles told when asked why " to keep the dirt out of there eyes" dad had a very dry humor.
Haha, those are some good ones! Never heard of wrapping them with a damp towel. We always try to keep ours as dry as possible.

What's not easy about it? It's much easier than using a long-handled hoe to create and cover furrows.
I used to cut my potatoes up to increase the number of hills I put in, thinking I was increasing my harvest.
One year I had more potatoes than I intended to plant hills and just planted whole potatoes instead of cutting them up.
I no longer cut up potatoes. My harvest increased beyond belief planting whole potatoes.
I plant less hills, freeing up more ground for other crops and harvest more potatoes, than I ever did using more ground and cutting up potatoes to plant.
Planting whole potatoes I get real nice potatoes.
Some hills I have filled a 5 gallon bucket from one hill, using a whole potato for seed.

Grounded I found the same to be true! I cut all my potatoes up for my February planting and got them in the ground, in my best bed. Then about 4 weeks later I finally got around to getting the rest of my seed potatoes in the ground but I didn't have time to cut them and let them heal. I also didn't have time to do any bed prep. I just thought, "what the heck, I will just see what happens" and I planted them whole, in terrible ground and didn't even get to hill them. They produced WAY more than my cut potatoes.
Same experience. I don't cut potatoes anymore. I have never filled up a 5-gallon bucket from 1 hill. That would be phonomenal. The most I ever got was 13 good size potatoes from a hill. I am guessing close to 10 pounds.

Sir, could you have done this planting with your dibble wheel attachment?
The Dibble Wheel Attachment is more applicable for transplants, not necessarily hunks of seed potatoes. Also, I don't think we had that attachment yet when this video was published.

Travis do you use drip on those taters, how do you get water to them.
No drip on taters. Seems to make the soil too wet and taters tend to rot.

Can you ask if they have tried other tree bark wondering if willow would increase root system?
They are no longer in business, so I can't ask them.
I cannot possibly afford that amount of worm castings. Guess I,ll have to start my own.
We've stopped using worm castings since we published this video several years ago. It works okay if you just need to soften your soils, but there was hardly no nutrient content. We use manure-based compost now.

Good compost (especially chicken-manure based compost) usually is enough. We typically don't add any additional fertilizer.
Where do I get the dust for the potatoes
Not sure, we do not carry it and this was a sample someone has sent us.
You use worm castings, can mushroom compost be usee as well.

How do you water your potatoes?
We overhead water them. Have tried using drip, but it just seems to keep them too wet and some will end up rotting.

I ordered from irish eyes last year only one plant out of 5 rows came up

@@garyschmelzer I rarely buy seed potatoes, i'd say I get a sack once every 10 years. usually I have spuds with eyes left over from the year before, but barring that I just get the cheapest bag of potatoes I can, 20 LBS or so from the grocer and let them sprout eyes. I just wait for a sale and then get one of those sacks and for less than 3 bucks i've got my seed potatoes. :) but i'm a cheap bugger. :D

Years of organic matter accumulation through composting have afforded us some very workable soil.

I told my dad that logic of letting them dry out and he said I’m wasting my time that’s why we coat them in lime! He did take 20 pounds of seed potatoes and turn it into almost a 1000 pounds year after year so I guess I’ll keep doing that
Coating them with lime works well. It alters the pH on the surface of the seed potato and prevents any fungal diseases.
