Alabama has begun to focus on the important things such as, execution and balance. They've also cut off a lot of dead weight. Their sound has evolved a great deal from last year. JSU is slowing going back to their roots and what built their reputation as a clean, balanced band. As both bands improve throughout the season they will become tough contenders.
No one can predict the outcome of The Boom vs The Jukebox because both bands are very good this year. We'll all just have to await the outcome of that one. Although there will be some disagreements, Alcorn may be the quiet monster this year. I'm expecting them to do very well.

Not a fan of either band but it was a nice battle. Being a Juke box fan I do have to give some props to ASU they don't try to over reach and be who their not. kinda fond of the sound they have to be honest.

Our band director demonstrated that if you put a one person space between you and the musician on both sides you can almost double the sound and volume of the band. When all of the bands bunch up elbow to elbow their uniforms and body actually absorb some volume before it launches from the band. We marched 150 and would stretch from top to bottom to side and the majorettes would have 2 rows of seats. Our volume would shock the band across the hill. Try some balance spacing & watch
Sorry, JSU took this one. ASU sounds unsure on a lot of the arrangements. JSU's Holy Grail was good I would like to see their version vs. AAMU's version. Take Me To The King was alright but there were some IFFY spots in there unfortunately. That Suit and Tie arrangement was not executed well.....Needless to say its just the second game so I expect some improvement with both bands.
I Give Ups To Both Bands . Both Bands Have Improved Especially Bama St. They Have Cleaned Up A Lot , But Still Have Work To Do . Alabama St. Seemed Like They Wasn't Prepared For This Game And Clearly Showed. But Both Band Have Bettered Themselves As Time Went By. Good Job To Both Bands , Much Love Going Out To HBCU Bands.
Oh my, I will always love my hornets, but that John Legend not afraid to fly was ON POINT!!!! I will give ASU their ups for still sounding pretty good, but JSU is back how I remember them!!! I love this new direction their headed in!!! SU vs JSU should go down in history books this year!!!!

1MR.TC not all JSU songs sound like SU but that miguel song does. From the intro with the trumpets and samething with the tubas when SU played turn off the lights. Don't get me wrong i love the boom every since i seen my 1st halftime show when lady that jumped out that box with that tiger cat suit lawd.back in the early 90's!!

ASU has a great program but they have alot of straightening up.. Too many good musicians in that band to sound they way they do. As for JSU, they were nice, powerful & balanced with a wonderful sound. Clean things up a bit and they'll be on point. Great job both bands.
To Dowell Taylor and the folks at JSU, you've got an excellent band and I'm looking forward to seeing you verses Southern. To Alabama State, your band has potential but out-of-tune horns will stand out like a naked women in a Catholic Church.

Why do ASU snares sound so different from the rest of the SWAC bands?
Different brand of drum I think, it seems that most SWAC bands use Dynasty marching snares.......
They use Kevlar(Aramid fiber) heads for a higher drier sound while most other swac bands use mylar.
ASU... maybe next time you all will be more prepared.. lol!
