How much the audience have changed, now we understand quality, context of films and superb talent of Rishi Kapoor. When this film was released, it was a flop.
Back then fake blood and fake no contact fights ruled the silver screens. Now in 2022, again most of the movies are forgettable as soon as they are over and so are the actors that are trying so hard to succeed , that unfortunately including even the legend's son. Missing the natural talent of Rishi Kapoor, who did not have to try or prove he is better , he WAS and Is the best.

This is a remake of the Tamil movie Mouna Ragam which was made in 1986. That movie is truly a class apart. The Hindi remake has been modified for the Northern audience and the actors are also from Bollywood. The remake missed quite a few things that made the original such a delight to watch even today. First of all the songs and the background music in the original were by Ilayaraja - I don't think I have seen any other movie where the background music was so good that it so effortlessly pushes the narrative forward and manipulates your emotions so beautifully - it is simply wonderful. Just compare the suhaag raat scene in the Tamil and Hindi versions and you will understand. Secondly, the songs are so fantastic - i can't stop listening to them. Songs were sung by SP Balasubramaniam and S Janaki - the greatest singers of south indian cinema. Thirdly, the lyrics - OMG! how wonderful were those lyrics- it explained a lot of things which the characters were feeling but not included in the dialogue - simply superb. Fourthly, the acting by the lead characters- in Hindi Rishi Kapoor was suited for this role and he seems to do a good job, in the Tamil version it was almost entirely Revathi's movie, the Tamil lead actor also did a very good job and ia a good fit for the role but, his face was not as expressive as Revathi's. The fifth point is the cinematography and the house - even by today's standards the house in Mouna Ragam is modern-looking and very well-designed. You just fall in love with the characters and the movie in the Tamil version. I think I have seen the Tamil movie about 5 times already now. For those who don't understand Tamil there is a version on RUclips with English subtitles. The subtitles are not an exact translation but it does a good job of conveying the meaning. I recommend you watch the Tamil version.
Also, Neelam is no comparison with Revathi. In the Tamil movie Revathi brings out the innocence and youth of her character - you realise Divya is not a mature person. Who will be at that young age of 18 or 19 especially in the 80s and 90s. Revathi looks so young and beautiful. Neelam is beautiful but, you don't get any such vibes from her - she does not bring that character to life.
The other thing is notice is that there is very little chemistry between the lead pair in the Hindi version. In the Tamil version, there is a lot of chemistry and the acting is also so subtle. The Hindi film creators missed all the nice subtleties in the Tamil movie and made a very commercial type of movie to please the masses. The Tamil version is for the educated and civilized viewer.
"कसक" देखने लायक है तो, for dialogues, two songs और Neelam's sarees.!!!!🌺💐🌸💮🏵🌺 By the way, कसक का literature मे मतलब है एक ऐसा दर्द जिसका कुछ किया नही जा सकता. एक दिल मे चुभा हुआ ऐसा काँटा जो निकाला नही जा सकता, और वक़्त वक़्त पर दिल दुखाता है.!
Deep Analysis of " कसक" :-
नीलम केहती है; "मै उसे जानती तक नही", about her husband to be. But then arranged marriage मे कितने लड़के-लड़कियाँ एक दूसरे को अच्छी तरह से जानते हैं ?
या उस ज़माने, या इस ज़माने मे भी, एक दूसरे को सालों तक date करते हैं. ? जब तुम्हारा एक टपोरी type का boyfriend कबका मर चुका है, so there is no love triangle or confusion. फिर तुम ऋषि कपूर को बताती क्यों नही की मुझे अभी पढ़ना है, graduate बनना है. क्या उसने तुम्हे पढ़ने से रोका है, मना किया है. ????🤔
Neelam :- मुझे लड़का पसंद नही है. ठीक है. Choice की बात है. लेकिन क्यूँ पसंद नही है, ये उसकी माँ उससे नही पूछती है.और heroine बताती भी नही है. ! If the Heroine is behaving illogically, waywardly, unreasonably, whimsically, & immaturely; then that is also O.K.. दुनियाँ मे ऐसा behave करनेवाले आपको बहोत मिल जाएंगे. It is not rare, ठीक है. Girls can be compelled to marry a man against their will, ये भी ठीक है. मगर तुम्हारे बापको heart attack आया है, वो मरेगा इसलिए तुमने अपनी मर्ज़ी के खिलाफ़ शादी की. तो तलाक लेके, वापस अपने घर जाके, तेरा दिन के बाद क्या बाप की तेहरवीं पे मीठा प्रशाद खाने का इरादा है ???? Real life मे मज़े की बात ये है कि the number of failed Arranged Marriages is not even 1/4 th of that of Love Marriages as per valid statistics..! Arranged Marriage सोच विचार करके, आँखें खुली रख के, हैसियत, पढ़ाई-लिखाई, काम-कारोबार, घराना, देख के जोड़ा हुआ रिश्ता होता है. जब कि Love marriage, " क्या Hero दिखता है, क्या sexy लगती है ", हसी-मज़ाक, चुटकुले-jokes, शेरो-शायरी-कविता, फूलों-चॉकलेटों के तोफे, दिल मे Romantic चाहत-प्यार, ऐसी उथल-ऊपरी चीजों से हो जाता हैं. कम उम्र मे नादानी साथ होती है, और कुछ लोग उम्र गुज़रने के बाद भी नही सुलझते. ! आदमी आगे का आखों से नही देख सकता, सिर्फ अपनी सोच से उसका अनुमान-अंदाज़ा लगा सकता है. Raj Babbar in " Vijay " :-
" दिल सिर्फ धड़कता है, मचलता है, सोचता नही है." हर इन्सान सुलझा-सयाना नही होता और बेवकुफ-पागल भी नही, लेकिन तक़दीर किसीके बस मे नही होती. ज़िन्दगी तुमको वो दिन भी दिखाती है, जिसके बारे मे तुमने कभी सपने मे भी सोचा ना था. !
सिर्फ हसी-मज़ाक-jokes पर बने Romantic Love वाले रिश्ते अक्सर टूट जाते हैं, क्यूँकि सच तो ये है कि " LIFE IS NOT A JOKE ". !!!! ( Not Joking.! 1992 मे चंकी पांडे और नीलम एकदम यंग एक्टर्स थे, फिर भी इन दोनोने ये एकदम हटके फिल्म की, उसी साल दिवाना ऋषी कपूर की थोडी बहोत कसक जैसी मिलती जुलती फिल्म आयी थी ,लेकिन दीवाना कसक से ज्यादा हिट हुई थी, लेकिन अगर कंपेरिजन करे तो कसक की स्टोरी बिलकुल हट के थी और अच्छी थी और इन दोनों फिल्मों में ऋषि कपूर थे,
