- In this video I will remember my teacher Coosje Wijzenbeek. 'Growing pains' definitely describe my thirteen years with her well! If you are a Fancy Fiddler or student of Coosje's I would love to hear from you either in the comments or in a private message. She will be remembered by all!
On the 26th of March 2021 my former teacher, Coosje Wijzenbeek, passed away in her sleep. It has felt so unreal to me that she is gone now. For thirtten years I saw her multiple times a week. She made me cry and laugh, probably in equal measure and she was there for my family when we needed her most. I will miss her a lot as I'm sure so many people will. Without her I would not be the musician nor person that I am today. Coosje, bedankt voor alles, we zullen je ontzettend missen!
This video is my small contribution to remember her. I hope you will enjoy my memories of my lessons with her, her way of being, and the crazy times we had with the Fancy Fiddlers, and maybe also share your own memories.
Hope you enjoy,
Amarins

Hi Everybody! To all who knew Coosje: I'm so sorry for your loss!
Also, do you have any more memories that I forgot to include? I'd love to hear them!
Super leuk!!
I remember I was waiting for her violin lesson, I was downstairs and the dog was barking, her boyfriend at the time was annoyed with the barking dog, and lifted up the dog and threw the dog through the hallway, just to hurt the dog. During the lessons Coosje Wijzenbeek got extremely angry with me stamping her feet and screaming at me, when I made a mistake. I endured it for a year, for me she was a traumatic experience and after the incident with that dog and her boyfriend, I left her lessons, and I never touched the violin again. When I see the pictures now on the internet she looks really friendly, and perhaps she has become very friendly but in my time, and this was a long time ago... perhaps 50 years ago. She was a tyrant. I have terrible memories. But I see your appreciation for her, and I am glad... because I do believe she has changed.
Hi Bart, thanks for your message. Yes, I am also aware that she could be quite difficult. I am very grateful for the lessons I had with her and how they helped me prepare for a life in music. I did have a few years of tyrant like behaviour. I somehow did always feel that she had my best interest at heart and never wanted to quit. I can imagine that over time she might have mellowed a bit. I'm so sorry that you had a terrible time and that it put you off the violin. I hope someday you'll be able maybe to pick it back up and enjoy it? What do you do now?
😢😢😢
Remarkable woman and most committed teacher I have ever met, and who played a key role in many people’s live. I have many precious memories having been her student for three constitutive and important years of my life, thank you for sharing and making me recall those.
Thank you for watching! Yes she has definitely influenced SO many people's lives! I'm so grateful to her for so many things!
Another lovely video, Amarins. I am sorry for your loss.
Thanks Jamie!
