He went there voluntarily. He wasn't kidnapped. He wasn't supposed to be there.
So did Brittney Griner, and yet everyone made a big deal, turned her into a cultural phenomenon, and Joe Biden traded a deadly arms dealer to Russia to get her back. Hopefully everyone keeps that same energy here too!
exactly
Makes you think, like what the heck.
Ok, why did he go there? Was he trying to be the next Otto Warmbier?
Russia and yes even China gets a lot of foreign visitors even from the USA. Don't break their laws. Don't break any other country's laws, The guy who was found with ammo in his carryon is still being held in the Caribbean.

Yea, sorry but he deserves to stay there.

Once I visited Vladivostok long time ago when I was young. There is a Yul Brynner monument, he was a famous Hollywood star. (The Magnificent Seven movie ) Vladivostok is his birth place.
Stepping foot in Russia as a random American really isn't the smartest thing to do right now.
Especially for a serving member of the US Armed Forces.
Fact!
I'm black and have a 13 year old son born and raised in Russia.. I'm there pretty often....never have any issues, and I spent 15 years in the Marines💯

It's more than merely $100. It's so ridiculous.
Leave him there.
Oh...man. Just leave him there...for being stupid!!! This was probably an FSB "honey trap" to lure some idiot soldier there and detain him on trumped up charges. He should have seen this from a mile away!!!

Black man... Go do some homework.... Russia may be the only true friend the black American has💯 which is why the West wants to go to war.... It's all because Putin opened the vaults 💯
As much as I back our military, this is sheer stupidity. He knew it was prohibited, did it anyways. Whether he stole or not is a different story but given what other countries love to do to our citizens, he should have banked on it possibly happening to him.
I back our military too...believe me. But I don't ride with stupid
That back story for why he was in Vladivostok made no sense.
Hes a spy who is getting "interrogated" as I type this😂😂😂
He met a Russian girl in S. Korea, then decided to go to a country that's off limits to American military personnel to steal some worthless rubles from her. No, none of this makes sense.

Crazy that any American would step foot in Russia, especially an active serviceman.
Exactly, something is not adding up right!
As a civilian you'll be treated with respect in Russia. I've seen RUclips channels of Americans welcomed with open arms like they would anywhere else.
Don't be a media sheep
Probably a spy
Why wouldn't American step foot in Russia?
People not from US military can visit Russia freely, borders are open from both sides

You make it sound like he shouldn't be accountable for his decisions.
Yeah keep him. If you are openly in the US military, stay the F out of Russia! Plain and simple. I mean I would love to go to Vladivostok too but I have braincells to know better..
I heard that. I'll settle for the documentary, good grief
You can safely travel to Vladivostok, just don’t break the laws, just like in any other country.
No problem.

according to them, he went out there to fish around their women purse and they don't seem to like it. he should have just came home. its obvious that they set him up. when you think with the wrong head, things like this happen.

Well, he shouldn't have been in Russia in the first place.
His own fault if he dies.
I can't believe how many Americans are so aggressively ignorant about Russia.
The second Cold War started and you go to Russia?!
The cold war is a myth.
Well, that's one way to weed out the incompetents from the Army.

A trap that all military was warned about years ago, and I am sure they still are.

a very stupid act that delivered a very stupid reward
this smells like a bad fish...........I don't believe the theft story, I believe the girlfriend story, love is stupid sometimes
Yeah, that theft story is nothing but pretense to detain him. But why was he anywhere near Russia right now considering the geopolitical tensions. The stuff we make is literally killing Russians.
Now he knows - believe them when they say don't go to Russia.
Americans going to or moving to Russia is very common, thousands move every year and none have a problem. He was not supposed to to as active duty so how was she a girlfriend? Had he secretly gone before and met her or just email friends but in any case he does not seem to think rules apply to him so the US military will likely want him in custody more than Russia. Getting a visa is not a problem, even if in the enemy's military but stealing from a Russian citizen will likely require restitution and short jail time.
Maybe he was on assignment from his unit so get information about Russia's defenses in the far east of Russia. If on a spying mission a conviction could result in long prison time. Generally Russian convictions result in a lot less prison time than in the US that has the largest prison population in the world, 26% of the world total prisoners are in US prisons. Russia has has much less crime than the US or Europe. In fact in 2017 Russia closed 73 prisons due to lack of prisoners,
Whatever his excuse it is likely he is not too bright and did not think rules in the military applied to him

That's common Closet Case talk. And very unoriginal.
America doesn't send it best to other countries. Hahaha
Other countries are emptying their prisons and sending them here. Crime in Venezuelan is 80% down. Know why? Because they are HERE NOW!!

Sounds like she tried to blackmail him. It’s not uncommon.
Sounds like he was entrapped by a Russian agent.
An American soldier? Ending up in that situation?? Something is not computing? Something doesn't sound right!🤔🤨
Don’t they teach any wisdom to kids anymore
His father tried but his mother was a very bad influence. She led him down the wrong path. He almost couldn’t get into the Army because of a drug charge he took to protect her. His 3rd wife tried to wise him up as well. He is still misguided by his mother. That is how he ended up in this mess. Don’t ask how I know all of this.
I did not know that wisdom was taught. I thought it was a result of experiential learning. Silly me.
Probably went to go meet his Russian catalog bride. The reporter at the end did say his girlfriend accused him of stealing money from her. Army, be all you can be. 😣
😌why the hell he goes there
Russian woman 👧
Why would you go find a girlfriend in enemy territory? There are lots of Russian girls in the USA already.

Also, What's "he/she" got to do with anything, are you jealous that Griner can get girls you can't?
why would someone go to russia anyway? you're kinda asking for it
Many Americans vacation in Russia or move to Russia every year and they love it since is not at all as claimed in US corporate media. Hundreds of Americans have created RUclips channels show how great it is and opposite what Americans are told by their media. Many move to Russia because it is a better place to raise a family or because how great the cultural access is, low cost of living, safe, friendly, some go just for the medical care or because they fall in love with the people,...American men are very interested in beauty feminine, intelligence, and personalities of Russian women who are fit, nice friendly, very well educated and stylish. An American is much safer in Russia than in the US and can live debt free on very little money
WHY DID HE GO THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE???
I don't understand the commentators a bit, it is clearly stated that he was arrested for theft, he is now in prison not because he is an American soldier but because he committed a crime, what is the problem?
Why are there even flights from any NATO partner to Russia??
Sounds like a setup; not the sharpest tool in the shed.
He wasn't arrested. It was a "special military detention."
What you people are not asking is how he went through North Korea
The media love people like you
He bought a flight to Vladivostok via Beijing you don't have to be einstein to figure this out
Don't you need a Visa anymore?
They presented an arrow over N Korea, I too would assume he crossed N Korea to reach Russia.
@@icu17siberia He could have easily gotten a visa to Russia, any consulate, fill out form, an invitation from a citizen, tour operator or hotel, a passport photos and he could get a 3 year multiple re-entry visa. He can only stay in Russia for 180 days but could leave and re-enter the next day and start another 180 days

Is it just me or does it sound like he got caught up in a FSB honey trap? Did they arrest him immediately after he stepped off the plane or did they actually allow him to see the FSB agent err "girlfriend" before they arrested him? With all the sanctions against Russia going on why are there even flights between Russia and South Korea?
He should stay in Russia in jail for simply traveling to Russia.

I remember when I stop in Russia about 10 years ago going to Belgrade, Serbia to visit a friend. Man the people weren't friendly at all and when the border lady saw I was American and black they had this serious look on their face and started looking me up and down. I definitely didn't feel welcome just stopping there waiting for my next flight to Serbia. The people where very cold and almost robotic like people with no personality it seemed.
'cause they're wondering, why the hell would you come here? And no, you aren't welcome
