Here's a link to 2 other Geof Darrow videos on my channel: ruclips.net/video/iFnYdBrcvRo/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/duHobps4M4M/видео.html enjoy!!
The collaborations with Moebius are from the City of Fire portfolio, eight gigantic plates penciled by Geof, inked by Jean, that goes back to the mid-80's. I have the 90's Dark Horse re-issue; it's about 15x19 inches. The pencil book is called Lead Poisoning. I keep meaning to get it, but there's so much good stuff out there...
after the video I looked it up and remember it. It's out there and pretty affordable...so I may grab it at some point. I'd love to get huge prints of those Moebius pieces though..that would be insane!!
I recall distinctively when first I saw this mans work. I was taken aback and thought maybe he was institutionalized and they were taking advantage of him. That was how it flattened me.
Amazing amount of detail in Geoff's work. As you mentioned, i wonder how artists who do that much detail do with their eyesight. Many years ago, i used to draw a lot, always pretty small and my optometrist told me to lay off the drawing for awhile because my eyes were seriously strained. So very good advice on your part. I keep meaning to ask if you have ever checked out Heinrich Kley's artwork. He worked in the late 1800's, early 1900's as an illustrator.I remember reading an interview with Michael Kaluta where he mentioned liking his work a lot. There's video's on RUclips about him.
Claude Legris was the original colorist for Hardboiled and Big Guy. The most stunning thing it was done by traditional acrylic paint job with some aerograph skills. This is why some parts (the most complex pipes and engines structures) are in B&W.
Amazing artists. I always wondered how he makes to stuff pages with all those characters, elements details and so on. I like his compositions and his great use of perspective. Also, he worked alot on page layout and storytelling. IMO, sometimes his pages are a bit too full of stuff so looking at them can be difficult to focus onto a main subject, but i know this is made most of times on purpose. His collaboration with Moebius was legendary. He drew all these illustrations in pencil, full of Moebius characters taken i think mainly from Moebius "Internal transfer" project, and some Arzach too. And then, Moebius actually inked the pages himself onto a sort of special vellum paper, fixing some very small errors, but more important, adding the Moebius inking style to Darrow pencils. Then, Moebius also coloured them. In this case i think it was a true honour for Darrow to draw these for Moebius, but i think for Moebius too was a real honour to have such a great penciler doing his stuff.
@@RichardFriendartist Sure! Thanks. I was looking for tutorial videos but I didn't find any that actually explained the steps and the how too of it. Just a lot of chatter up front and no real information, but that was last year.
@@samankucher5117 I am planning on doing Amano again. I am trying to time it right. This seemed to fit for today but I am eyeing a new Amano video very soon.
definitely has cemented his place. Even my wife knows who he is and I have people not even fans of comics will go "have you ever seen that guy who can draw without....." and you go Kim jung Gi. lol
Good, great, fun .... but also just shows how impossible it is to beat Moebius.... and, to me, shows how digital stuff always sort of lacks something....
Great video rich, I got hardback of rusty and big guy a couple of weeks back, hey rich I just seen on my Instagram feed moebiuseveryday got the moebius hendrix thing for sale I think you mentioned it in yesterday's video

Outstanding, he is one of the best if not the best... Love Geof's work...

Thanks for posting this. I just discovered geof darrow recently and love his work.

hahaha I pictured Darrow in the mad house cuffed and being exploited. For some reason that sounds like a scene he's love to draw.

so much fun to look at the detail on his artwork. wow
I believe that Darrow pencil book is titled Lead Poisoning.

Hal foster would be awesome, or russ manning
I don't know Manning's work very well. Familiar with the name but not as much the art. I shall look him up!
Actually one leads to the other. Early Manning on Brothers of the Spear really looks like Prince Valiant.
@@russworks2882 for sure!
@@RichardFriendartist Manning was a big inspiration to Steve Rude. Beginning to form an influence chain here.
I like anime
How about Kevin Nowlan for a Legends' video?
I've been trying to figure out haow to do Pixel Art so I can do a comic in 32 or 16 bit art.
I can look into it for your lesson. Let me know!
