      @@k_wl the i symbolizes the imaginary unit.. putting an index i and imaginary i in one sum is not a good idea

      when you're in a context, like examination of functions over the reals, i is usually used for "index", not "imaginary". it makes more sense. pi and phi are used to denote functions, and j and k (quaternions)
      are often used for elements of a set. this is not uncommon
