How to Get Rid of Wood in Factorio

- Wood, truly one of the materials of all time. In Factorio wood is essential to the early game, allowing us to build chests, power poles, and begin automating production. In the environment, trees help players by eating all that yummy pollution before those pesky biters can get their hands on any. But, in the late game, when you’re getting ready to make the deforestation in the Amazon look like a child picking up a twig off the ground, do you ever stop to ask yourself the important question?
“Is this rampant destruction of the planet’s forests an environmentally irresponsible action that will result in the unchecked spread of pollution leading to my actions sometimes literally biting me in the ass?” No, not that one - biters are easy to fix.
“What the hell am I going to do with all this damn wood?”
Well, dear viewer, allow me to take you on a journey of potential solutions to your problems.

Just woke up after taking a shot every time you said wood great video
Good video but i think i will continue setting forest fires instead
Australia circa 2020
Nuking much more fun.
Some pretty neat ideas actually. Usually I just have a requester chest feeding wood into a priority input splitter going towards my coal power plant, since I usually don't deconstruct my starter power plant
Another sensible solution
After doing a playthrough where the entire world was nothing but wood (it was living hell till grenades) I found I can produce more power using just the wood than a nuclear power plant... I had about one million of wood in logistics, an hour later I had none for my 1 gigawatt wood plant... Not the best way to do that but it added it logistical challenge for me
Turn the wood into wooden chests, and you make those useful ore loaders for your trains. Because a single train caboose can be fed from 12 chests. So if those chests are wood, that's perfectly fine. You don't need iron or steel for that job. Saving you iron and steel while doing the exact same job = a win for wood
A single big tree yields four wood and you need only one wood to craft a wooden box. At that ratio, one wagon only needs three trees' worth of wooden boxes. You're probably going to gain more wood building the railway than you consume crafting boxes for the stations.
@@Welgeldiguniekalias just built more outposts to use the wood and then build more outputs to use the wood you got building the other lot of outposts and then build more outposts….
Just hope it doesn’t scale exponentially
Have a requester system take the wood to an area without connection to the main grid. Feed boilers with burner inserters for power. Craft wood into boxes (as per another suggestion in these comments) and feed trains. All of which uses machines and bots powered by wood boilers. Also power some circuits to count amount of wood destroyed.
I just make some thing like the old starter base and shove wood on the belts for the boilers and then steam engines. Just make sure when you do this separate it from your normal electrical grid. Or if there is no starter base anymore just use radars
It's possible to use power switches to segregate your power grid. Things like nuclear only kicking on when the accumulators are exhausted or alternatively the main power grid only kicking in when the wood fueled boilers are exhausted.
In space exploration you just fill a rocket with wood, launch to orbit, and make biosludge out of it. I do recommend doing this after you get the vanilla resources from other planets than your starting one (Nauvis)
Trains don't consume more fuel when accelerating when compared to just driving at top speed. So adding extra wagons does absolutely nothing.
Instead, add more locomotives so you can burn more wood per second. And have them drive around for multiple laps instead so a smaller portion of the time is spent braking. (and thus, less of the time is spent not burning wood.)
I like the mod that let's me turn it into charcoal for oil. The circle of industry as good intended
Best method is mitigation. If you need to build big post-rocket you can try to avoid placing the blueprints where the forest is most dense, or if you have to place them there: plan ahead and burn the forest first.
a burning forest is a beautiful moment in Factorio. it looks SO good :D and way LESS wood that remain to store and dump :D
Always just end up making it the primary supplier for legacy coal plants. Just set an input priority on a for the belt that feeds in wood and you'll burn through it in no time.
Luckily I have a flare stack mod with includes an incinerator, that I just constantly feed wood into
I don't dispose wood. I make floors with it.
make a perpetual nuclear reactor explosion by using a large circle of auto-rebuilding nuclear reactors, place requestor chests for wood near one of the reactors. Easy automated solution, design is very human.
I want someone to figure out how big this would have to be to get the reactors back to 900C before the explosion got back to that point.
@@24thcenturygamer Probably 400 or so. it takes 221.25 seconds for a single reactor to heat up to 900 C without any heat pipes, but im not sure how long it takes for reactor explosion to explode another reactor at max distance, from what i remember it goes at around 100/minute rate. You could mesure exact max distance for reactor to destroy another reactor, then place 100 or so reactors in a row, explode them and mesure total time to get exact reactor/second rete.
Finally, the last guide i needed for my collection!
I use upgraded nades, best tree removal device in factorio
I do like trains actually
Put it in the Space Age Recycler
I always install the torch mod which has existed since 0.14, that way keeping my base lit up requires an entire infrastructure to supply the torches with wood which keeps the spaghetti at a reasonable level
Boiler
#1 Play Krastorio 2, wood is an ingredient in more then boxes and power poles but actual research requirement.
#2 Install Wood Gasification and turn that humble wood into sweet sweet black gold.
#3 Wood powered steam generator power plant... use an S/R latch and now it can become a backup generator too.
#4 Fire, lots and lots of fire.
Wood goes in the coal plant :3
Wood to dirt mod
I just set a small boiler power plant and request wood to it with blue chests, it then works every night when the solar is off. It's not ideal because I don't strictly need this energy 'cause I could get it back at daytime since my solar is abundant. So I really like your idea of feeding wood to coal liquification boilers, there's no loss at all.
But it's not really scalable and not guaranteed to satisfy the supply of wood and even more to diminish the wood buffer in time.
What I have in my actual world is an even simpler version of what I showed in the video. It doesn’t work 100% of the time but it strongly prefers using wood over coal so it tends to burn through the wood and then easily move back to the coal when there’s no more left.
@@24thcenturygamer Yeah that's what I thought you did. Quite neat.
Honestly the burner inserter method is really funny and I think it's my favorite
I quite like turning it into boxes then recycling it back again. Optionally you can use quality modules so that you eventually have a little bit of legendary wood
Legendary Wood is what they called me in highschool
Build small separate electric network inside your factory. This separate network consists of burner inserters, boilers, turbines, empty beacons. Insert wood to this closed system via requestor chest.
Something like that very nearly made its way into this video.
That's my approach, but with radar arrays. May as well get some sector scans out of it.
Maybe we could do this in real life
Or build the base in the desert.
Why not just make a bunch of boilers to burn the wood and make your "primary" power supply using circuits, so any time you get wood it goes to power, then just fails over to your actual power system when you run out
You don't even need circuits. You can just have a single wood burning boiler + turbine. If your using nuclear, the reactor turbines will pace theirselves to let the wood turbine burn. If your using solar, the wood will be burnt at night.
solution, install advanced furnaces 2 mod and then turn it all into coal
Steam boiler that only feeds a huge block of radars.
Riverdale reviews next?
I’m insulted
or just requester burn that for power you need anyway
if this video tryed to be funny it gone all the way to cringe
