    Whenever I’m selling something if someone tells me they are on the way and we have already agreed on the price I will hold what I’m selling till the person shows up. If someone else messages me I tell them someone is already on the way and if they don’t show up I’ll let them know it’s still available. That’s just me though, I don’t like ripping people off

    The seller is obviously in the wrong, but unfortunately in this day and age, honor, honesty, and integrity are qualities found in very few people, and at the end of the day, it's not like he broke any laws, so I'm sure he's not losing any sleep over it. Just a shady individual and a bad business man. Karma will catch up to him eventually 🤛🏻🤛🏻

      Seller was in the wrong? He gave a disclaimer 'First come, First serve' at the start. Meaning, the only way to guarantee any 'claim' was to show up in person. Someone else got there first. Seller was 100% justified. Just a bummer Chris drove that far and came back empty handed.

  • @davidsamuelson2089

    Yup, you got played by a seller who was playing 2 sides against eachother. Told the other seller what you offered & pressured the other guy to pay more. Douche move but most sellers are douches.

    I’ve had situations with people agreeing to buy, set a date and time, and then not come or message me. In the meantime I’ve turned away other offers that were better because I’m holding it for this person. I’ve also had others who having agreed on a time and date, show up earlier while I was not planning to be around then they get upset. If it’s an expensive item I tell them they need to make a deposit - never had a problem with those who put a deposit down.

    Tough situation for all. I've driven my goods to potential buyers and they change the price on me when I get there knowing I drove 20 mins to see them as I was out on errands.

  • @reprintranch

    The seller’s a jerk but I bet what happened was, seller told another potential buyer, “there’s a guy in his way over who offered such-and-such amount, if you’ll pay more I’ll sell to you. And the other guy took the bait.
    What would I do as the buyer who came up empty-handed? Not a darn thing. I’d probably not even send a reply text. Reasons: The seller has revealed himself to be an inconsiderate jerk, and I try to avoid dealing with such people. And if anything bad befalls the idiot in the days/weeks/months to come, I don’t want there to be an electronic record showing that I’m ticked off at him.

    Once the price is agreed upon and you state you were on your way then the seller should have held the collection for you. I would have been upset for sure.

    I think based on the order of the info that the buyer has an expectation of a deal having been struck, but I would have confirmed that this was a done deal and to you point, I would have asked if a PayPal or Venmo downpayment was needed to guarantee the sale until my arrival.

  • @comicblove

    If the seller stated he won't hold and had messgaes from others closer by knowing both or few parties on their way, that is kinda bad business imo, for pick up sales.
    If it's cash only sales maybe if they don't do any money transfer app.
    Bad communication on their part. First person messgaes and confirms to buy you state it's sold pending collection.
    I would take a deposit or full payment I did pick up sales. I normally sell on ebay or my fb group and it's sent via post office.

    per your phone convo and agreement, that should make you 1st in line! seller was wrong, and was probably had you and one other buyer he was playing at the same time! one falls through, he has a back up! crappy seller, and bad business!

  • @Mikah234
    @Mikah234 6 месяцев назад +1

    For me that would be very shady by the seller. Once the deal was made and the seller knew the buyer was driving. Me personally I'm holding the books for that person. Then If they didn't show up by the agreed upon time. Then i would move them to another. Just not a cool way to do someone in my opinion. Not the way I do people.

  • @ieatkittinz
    @ieatkittinz 6 месяцев назад

    I would just say, next time offer to send a deposit for him to hold them. Otherwise, he gave you a disclaimer at the beginning. Pretty clear the seller was in the right 100%.

    I feel the seller is more in the wrong for not informing them they sold it before he got there. He already had a buyer on the way with money why not just wait. First come first server is usally seen as who ever calls dibs and comes to get it, gets it. That would be like a buyer saying ill pay extra if you bring it now and when the seller shows up he goes o my bad i bought it off someone else already

    To answer the question of do they have the right to sell the collection to someone else; yes, it’s their stuff. But, it wasn’t right to do that to you. They should have called you to double check that you were otw and left it at that. I feel like that was a shitty move on the part of the seller.

    I think what happened is the seller found another buyer to pay a higher price. That said, if you had no deposit structure in place, and the seller didn't say they'd hold it for you, then they can literally sell it to the person who arrives 1 second before you and still be morally in the right (first come, first served).

    I don't blame seller at all from the info you gave us. The seller has no guarantee the buyer will actually buy the books after inspection. The seller did say FCFS. Seller has no idea if buyer will drive to his local. To try and lock it in for the buyer I agree with PayPal/Venmo type deposit if buyer verbally says he's holding it just for you. If you really want it consider gambling with the speed limit. Send the seller your google location to help seller know you are serious.

    As much as this is disappointing for you, you can't blame the seller. It doesn't matter what platform you're making a deal like this on. If you're dealing with strangers the only thing for sure is that you're going in blind. None of what they say or show you is a guarantee. Going into any kind of deal like this expecting a guarantee is a mistake. Should the seller keep their word? Of course. Do they owe it to you to keep their word? No. There's tons of stories and videos of deals that fall through when dealing when dealing with strangers. There's too many variables and unknowns that come up. You can't know for sure that the seller didn't have multiple people interested in the collection. From the seller's side maybe they entertained multiple offers because they don't know who's actually gonna show up, and someone else beat you to it.
    In the end the best thing to do is put the money back in the bank and keep it ready for the next collection that comes up.
