    I am torn between buying an Epiphone TD333 or an Ibanez AS63-MTB. Here in Bulgaria, the TD333 costs about 450 EUR, while this particular Ibanez can be found for a little over 300 EUR. So as you can imagine that's okay for our standard of living. I am still torn between the two, I honestly don't know which one to buy. I want to get the TD333, but then again - why not get something that's not directly copying a favourite musician? Then again - it's a beautiful model. So I really don't know what to do. I will wait for a couple of more months, to save up some more cash and then decide.

    Hey man! I’m not sure if you know about the website zzounds.com, however I bought the epiphone 333 off that site. Small monthly payments. I always wanted the Gibson as well, couldn’t afford it. I’m a huge Tom fan and I’ve always wanted it. I own two tom fender strats and really wanted the 333 but did not have the budget for the Gibson. I was weary about the epiphone 333, but I honestly love it man. I understand your hesitation about the brand epiphone, but I really think you should maybe give them another shot.

    I believe tom said playing the strat was like playing a violin based on the fact he's a pretty big guy which is probably one of the reasons he was drawn to the Gibson. Never really liked the look of it personally. And for that price you can get a far more versatile axe.

      He has stated that. You're right! I'm around the same height, ( 6' 4.5" ) And too be honest, playing a Stratocaster vs. "Bigger" guitars... Well, it does help having something a bit "Beefier" for "Bigger/Taller" guitar players... Just my experience...

    Honestly I agree with the gibson vs epiphone feel issue. I'll only own a few epiphones: 57 reissue junior, some of their nice acoustics, and the only one I do own, a white lightning les paul
    And yea the epiphone TD 333s I've played all felt like shit, but the price is decent

    It’s funny because I feel the exact opposite way about this type of guitar. The way it feels sitting and the way it inspires me even though it does feel less than stellar. Especially when I’m sitting, something about how it stays on me when I’m sitting. So much better than a strat on me but hey it’s all personal preference!

      The "poor guitarist guy problem" I have the same problem, I want to buy that guitar but but the money is not enough not even to buy quality gear the the economic crisis in my country (mhmp Argentina ...) which has been around for years makes "economic guitars" cost very expensive, to get to the point, the guitar is designed for people who want to play like Tom, and if you want to keep the guitar I'd recommend you an equalizer pedal or something like that

    The Epi version was the first guitar I ever bought with my own money, good guitar but the lack of features does make $500 a bit much. Still It's one of my favorites and it ended up getting stolen and thankfully got it back but in the time it was gone I wasn't rushing to go buy a replacement if that puts it into perspective. Would rather build a warmoth mooncaster in the style of it now though.

    I'm 6' 2.'' mainly a bass player, but I got a few guitars too, Gibson LP, Epi TD, PRS & a Jazzmaster. Playing tiny strats always felt weird, I totally love the feel & sound of my Epi Delonge, I got it used for $ 300 it's much better than any, even higher end Squiers I tried. What might work for you, wouldn't suit others needs. Great video!

  • @KahnuevsKrake
    @KahnuevsKrake 6 лет назад +3

    I have owned the Epiphone version, but I ultimately sold it because it sounded dull and it wouldn't stay in tune, the only thing that really saved it was the pickup.
    I then found a Gibson ES-339 Studio, which is basically a TD signature without the racing stripe, same pickup and all. I got one really cheap as it was about to be discontinued, but the only problem was that the finish was essentially black vinyl which affected the tone, so I stripped it and refinished it. Now it plays quite well :)

    I had a strat, and currently have the epiphany and Gibson. I didn’t like the strat, like you said it was too small for me, and it was way too distorted, but it played better than the other two. The epiphone was decent and I wasn’t expecting a huge difference between the epiphone and the Gibson, but it was night and day. The Gibson sounds so much bigger and fuller. It’s my favorite guitar I’ve ever had.

  • @TheGamesOfToday

    I actually have the Gibson Epiphone he put out, and I enjoy it honestly. OBVIOUSLY it's not gonna be on par with that of an A grade $3,000+ Gibson, but it's a nice guitar. MY fiancé got it for me for my birthday. I play pretty much all standard tuning shit on it, and use my actual Les Paul for anything higher (or lower perhaps) than Drop D tuning.

    Epiphone has really stepped their game up in recent years. I have a 2015 epi hummingbird pro and a 2020 epi les paul custom and the build quality on them (especially the lp custom) are fantastic for the price. That being said the 335 isn't for me either. I wish like hell I could find a sticker strat replica or a decent EOTS fender strat.

  • @SuperWave86

    I recently got the Epiphone Casino and find it very versatile in tone. Been a strat dude since 2005 cause of Tom Delonge and never really liked the feedback or bulkiness of a hollow-body before but the music i been making in the last couple yrs guess changed my tone and been liking it the big hollow bodies and can still play almost similar to the strat sound with pedals and amps. Guess it depends on the sound and tone and been liking the feel of the neck of the hollowbodies.

  • @nickhalbert652

    Yeah it’s all personal preference. I just picked up an ES-333 for around 3,000. I have played it none stop for the last month and i do feel like it is overall way better than the strat. It feels like a way better built guitar and the craftsmanship is overall way more impressive than my TD strat. The tone for me is also so much better from the Gibson. I just feel like it plays way better than my fender. However as you say, it’s all about personal preference.

  • @matthewwood1933
    @matthewwood1933 6 лет назад

    Gibson’s nowadays aren’t great. for the price you’re paying, you can get a better guitar if not cheaper from brands like fender, ibanez, schecter, and even epiphone. i really like epiphones, especially the prices of them. i don’t think playing pop punk songs and power chords can really test the true abilities of a guitar. epiphone is really saving gibson’s ass right now atm.

    Everything about the epiphone version is just as good with the exception of the finish and frets. Only serious reason I’d take it over the Gibson is because I’m not as worried about getting it a little beat up (it’s way cheaper) and the headstock angle is less harsh, less nut binding so it stays in tune longer. Don’t get this guitar if you don’t like intense amounts of feedback. If you like nasty ripping sounds like a p90 on crack, get a second hand epiphone one, fix the frets, and have fun

    I have the TD Epiphone Signature and I can only say good things about it. It's more dirtier and has more power than strats but at the same time you can play clear songs really amazing.
    I suggest to have both a strat and a 333/335 as long as you feel comfortable.
    Side note their self titled Album played on a strat just doesn't look right, the darker and more serious character doesn't fit the strats.

    • @LA-st6dq
      @LA-st6dq 6 лет назад

      In your case, you have some guitars so it wouldn't be needed to get it, unless you wanna collect it and are amazed by the sound and unique design. However, the TD Epiphone brand new go around 400-450 so it's kinda cheap to afford.

    I've had several of the Delonge strats, both fender and squier. Surprisingly, I've found that the lower end squier version plays and sounds better than the actual fender version. I sold all of my delonge's except one of the Squier Strats. I also have a gibson 333 (Natural) and HAD a Delonge 333 as well. again... sold the Delonge. Its a no contest against the standard 333. I HATED that guitar, but love my natural. Those are my two "Go to" guitars. As for bass... NOTHING ive played beats a hoppus. Nothing.

    Just out of curiosity, how tall are you? I had a Gibson 335 and eventually sold it to buy a 339...I'm 5'10" and thought the 335 looked huge on me.
